New Moon in Aries 7th April 2016

Break Dance

On your marks … get ready… for a hot-headed, fiery new moon on 7th April.  With the  Sun, moon and Venus in Aries, this signals the real start to our new Astrological year. Uranus is right there too, giving us an extra burst of potency to  clear away blocks and take some bold steps in the direction we want to move in.

We’re not going gently into this dark night … that’s for sure.  This new moon is joined closely by Uranus and squared by Pluto, which feels to me, a lot like a break dance.

Why so? Look at the image and feel what it says to you… before reading on!  What kind of energy does it ignite in you?

Let’s unpack it a bit. Firstly, Uranus is the rebel, the revolutionary, the out-the-box, unconventional maverick, who sees all, despises ruts and will do whatever he needs to do, to disrupt the status quo. He will send his thunderbolts to eject us out of any comfy little zones we might have gotten ourselves into and demand that we stand up and actively participate in our lives, as opposed to watching it all from the side-lines.

And then there’s Pluto, who brings a passionate, intense, sometimes ruthless energy into the picture, demanding that we look beneath the surface and discover what’s stopping us from stepping into our true unique, authentic power and manifesting our heart’s  intentions.

Not exactly coochy coo…. This combination turns the heat up and could even tip things upside down and turn them on their heads a little…and that’s exactly what needs to happen right now.  As much as most of us resist discomfort, we also know that very often, the only time we actually change, is when things start to feel so uncomfortable that we have no option but to do something different. It’s  going to be very interesting to see what happens politically in the next few weeks.  Even more skeletons are likely to come leaping out of closets across the planet.  Be aware that tempers might get a little frayed, so remember to breathe!

This is a POTENT time to put our money where our mouths are… stop thinking and start acting.

Here are some questions to ask this new moon:

  • What area of my life feels uncomfortable?
  • What makes me angry or irritated?
  • Where do I feel stagnant, stuck or ache for change?
  • Am I actively doing anything to change it?
  • What are the obstacles in the way of me going for what I want in my life?
  • What new idea/concept/problem have I been procrastinating about?
  • Do I really, really want whatever it is I think I want and how will I feel when I achieve it?
  • Do I feel fearful about moving forward/ starting something new?
  • What is preventing me from going for it… full tilt?
  • If there was one bold step I could take, what would it be?

Once you’ve got some answers, try taking the idea/ concept or problem and break-dancing with it. Take it on!  Turn it upside down, maybe spin it around a few times. Talk about it to a friend. Brainstorm it from a completely new perspective. You might be very surprised at the flashes of creativity, ingenuity and inspiration that arrive unexpectedly – seemingly out of the blue!

Many years ago, I co-owned a property, which we were desperate to sell. There were all sorts of issues with living there, not least of all was the severe political unrest that arose in the area, which caused a sharp decline in property prices.  We were told by a number of  estate agents that there was no way we would be able to sell, even if we radically reduced the price. I felt completely stuck, overwhelmed, paralysed and fearful about our personal safety.  I honestly had no idea what to do next. The more I tried to think my way to a  solution, the more I got myself into knots.

A very good friend came to my rescue, by giving me some of the most valuable advice I have ever received. He suggested that I imagine my obstacle  (in my case  the “sale of the house” ) as a giant letter A (I’m not sure why an A… but anyway…). He said to walk up to it, give it a little kick and watch as the supposedly immovable, impossible obstacle wobbled a bit. Then he suggested giving it another kick, until cracks started to form and eventually I began to realise that it wasn’t so overwhelming and daunting after all.  It was really about walking up to the fear and actively doing something about it – not sitting stewing and ringing my hands in powerless desperation.

I followed his advice and the very next day, decided to take one step out of the box. I turned everything I knew or had heard about selling property on it’s head and placed a seemingly random ad in a publication that had nothing whatsoever to do with house sales.  It was in fact a Ski Boat magazine of all things. Within a few days, ONE person replied to the ad,  came and viewed the house and bought it immediately, for the asking price!

So, this new moon, ask yourself what the giant A is, that is preventing you moving forward?  How can you approach it from a different angle? And then, in true courageous Aries fashion, inhale deeply and take ONE  new bold step forwards.

Find out about my Inspired Intention Workshops in April. Even if you’ve done this workshop before, it is worth doing again, because as we know, all things are in a constant state of flux, so it won’t be the same as last time.  Also see below for info on my Autumn retreat in May – an opportunity for you to slow down and connect in the exquisite Natal Midlands.

If you need some help with setting intentions or moving forward, you might consider having an updated chart done or booking a navigational session with me.

Let’s take that “A” on!

Lifelight Astrology April 2015 – Blood Moon

Judge break heart

April kicks off with (yet another) Eclipse on the 4th, this following the total solar eclipse two weeks ago.  This one is a Lunar Eclipse (full moon) which is activating the final Uranus Pluto Square. It is also the last in a string of four  “blood moons”, a phenomenon that has been written about a lot on the internet for the past few years.

Some people are seeing this as the shift of all shifts, some as the end of the world as we know it. Others are viewing it as the end of the age of Pisces and the real beginning of the Age of  Aquarius. Whatever it is and whatever is going to happen or not happen, nobody really knows, quite frankly. However, a lot of people are filled with the fear of the unknown and focussing on the “what ifs”.  There certainly seems to be a kind of a quickening – a growing unease with the status quo and an “it’s now or never” sense of urgency.   I have very little doubt that we are at a radical turning point in our history and can only hope that this is going to shift us into a dimension of higher consciousness.   Whatever is going to happen, we need to be very very present indeed.

In March, as the sun journeyed through Pisces, a whole lot of stuff was dredged up from the depths of our beings, either through  conscious investigation and growing awareness, or by  people and life situations, which pushed our buttons relentlessly (which may still be happening for many of you.  Whatever the trigger, we’ve been more or less forced to look deeper and ask the really big questions, from  “Am I in the right job, relationship, house, country” …to  “What is my purpose?  What is my value system… now… really? What do I stand for?  Am I living authentically? What’s really important now… at this stage of my life?”

Having asked these questions, some answers are starting to appear and now, as the sun makes his way through Aries,  it’s about integrating what we’ve found and starting to plant brand new seeds of  inspired, heart-based intention and activity.  (see below or email me for info on Inspired Intention Workshops, Law of Attraction and Tree Workshops  in April – Johannesburg and Durban)

The lunar Eclipse on the 4th April is in Libra, along with the north node of the moon, which gives us an indication of  how we can best navigate these turbulent waters and  where we are supposed to be heading as a human race.  What  we need to be focussing our attention on, is real peace, love, balance, harmony, co-operation and integration . We’re being called upon to be peaceful warriors, to take our visions and turn them into something worthwhile, whilst working with and co-operating with others.

Being in Libra, the focus is very much on relationships, but for me, this isn’t only about love relationships or the connections we have with other people. Its also about our relationship with money,  possessions, our bodies, expectations, thoughts, addictions, emotions, beliefs,  work,  home and  our planet.  Everything is connected, so we’re all in relationship with everything all the time, whether we like it or not.

And then… there’s the  most important relationship of all – the one we have with ourselves.  As the Dali Lama said, “We can never make peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves”

I read something last night that really resonated with me – right in the middle of my being:

“Every time you  judge yourself, you break your own heart” Swami Kripalu

Wow! We are past- masters at breaking our own hearts. I’m sometimes horrified at how I find myself talking to myself and how other people  talk to themselves.

Think about how often you judge yourself, beat yourself up for  making an error,  not being perfect,  saying too much or too little; for being  too emotional or too hard;  too reactive, too depressive, too loud, too thin, too fat. .. and the list goes on. Have you noticed what happens when you give someone a compliment?  How many people are able to just gracefully receive it and say “thank you?  Most of the time, we rush to demolish the kind words someone has said to us.  Why? Do we think that’s being humble?  Actually it’s  rude and disrespectful to  them and us, when you really think about it.

What if each of us started treating ourselves as we would  a precious and valued friend, child, parent or lover? How would our lives change?   What if we became the peaceful warriors that the world so desperately needs, by  starting to co-operate with ourselves?. What if we started being patient and gentle with ourselves, irrespective of our apparent “flaws”? What if, when we messed up, we focussed on nurturing ourselves, rather than beating ourselves half to death?

Here’s what I’ve been doing for some time and it’s really helped me.  When I find myself messing up… let’s say I break a plate or something. As soon as I notice the tightness in my body and the judgemental mind leaping in to tell me how clumsy I am, that I should have been more careful blah blah blah… I STOP.  At that very moment, I take myself by the hand and start gently speaking to myself as I would speak to my child.  Yes, I know… it would seem rather batty if someone was eavesdropping, but whatever!  My conversation goes along the lines of “ Its ok Sweetie. It’s just a plate. Let’s go outside and stand in the sun for a while or have a cup of tea. We can clean this up later.”  Straight away, the tightness starts to diminish and the story I would normally have told myself, ends right there, instead of ruining my day.

Every time we are able to  show up and simply love ourselves,  regardless of what’s going on,  we are actively re-programming negative core beliefs. As always, love is the answer to everything.

I read a fascinating article a few  months back, where research was done on drug- addicted rats. The rats were moved out of horrible little cages, to a wonderful Rat Park (filled with swings, rat wheels and climbing things – rat heaven I guess). Plain water was put in one container in Rat Park and water containing heroin was put in another.  Due to the happier environment, the rats started choosing the plain water, rather than the drug infused water, even though they had the choice.  Love and nurturing were the only drugs they needed.

So what I am seeing in these times, this month, is a Universal call for peace  and that peace starts within our own hearts.  Please let’s stop breaking them and start healing them –then and only then can our planet heal.

“Every time you judge yourself, you break your own heart. You stop feeding on the love that is the wellspring of your vitality.  The time has come. Your time. To live, to celebrate, and to see the goodness that you are. You, my child, are divine. You are pure. You are sublimely free. You are God in disguise, and you are always perfectly safe. Do not fight the dark, just turn on the light, and breathe into the goodness that you are.” Swami Kripalu

Love

17th March – The Grand Finale

Grand-Finale-by-David-Gifford

The stage is set, the drum rolls and the curtain is raised for the final scene –  the protaganists – Uranus and Pluto – the old and the new – armoured up and ready to engage in their last battle. It’s been a long relentless one, lasting almost three years. There have been gains, there have been losses and there have been lessons. And now it’s crunch time. Are we going to choose the old or the new; the dark or the light, limitation or freedom?

It’s the final showdown – and its time to see who will survive!

This is the grand finale of all grand finales – a potent, potentially paradigm-shifting whopper of a week –  The  final  Uranus Pluto square is exact on the 17th March and on the 20th , the Sun leaves Pisces accompanied by a total Solar eclipse (new moon).

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and when the Sun makes its way through the sign of the fish, it always signals the end of our Astrological year.  The difference this year, is that the moon cycle ends on the same day as the sun’s cycle– in the  very last degree of Pisces. This week, as the moon wanes towards her final degree, we are given a one-time-only chance to really clear the slate, in readiness for the Sun’s entry into Aries the next day on the 21st, which is also the Autumn Equinox.

I’m seeing this as an incredibly potent opportunity to make a grand entrance onto the centre of the stage of our lives and face our perceived demons for once and for all.  No victimhood. No blame. Full disclosure.  Complete honesty and responsibility. We have a chance to really face our issues this week and see what we can still glean from them. (They’re likely to be emblazoned into our psyches and across the skies in techni-colour anyway, so they’ll be hard to ignore).

If you don’t know what your issues are,  look at the people who are pushing your buttons and  the situations that are upsetting you. When you hear yourself uttering a sentence starting with “ XYZ should or shouldn’t…”  you’re probably on the right track. Ask yourself where you should or shouldn’t do the same for yourself or others.

Allow yourself to feel what you’re feeling and breathe. Invite that feeling, as if it were  a person, to join you on your stage and engage with it. It might be righteous indignation, niggly irritation or deep rage, paralysis, an inexplicable uneasiness, anxiety, depression, sadness or sheer unadulterated fear.  Ask what is beneath that feeling and what it has to teach you.

With all the Pisces energy around, this is the week to spend time in a reflective or creative space, to assimilate all you’ve experienced and learnt over the past 3 years.  Where were you then and where are you now? How were you then and how are you now? What has shifted in your life and what would you still like to shift more?

If you need help with  any of this, you are welcome to book a coaching session or an astrology reading.

Do some kind of ritual before or on the solar eclipse to release anything you don’t want to hold onto. Writing it down on a piece of paper and feeding it into a fire is really effective. And then – the next day, set some good, strong, clear Arian intentions and send them out into the ether.  This is the time to actively be the change we want to see.  Whether you’re wanting to give up sugar, exercise more often or change a destructive way of behaving – this is the time to put your money where you mouth is and actually commit to making the change.

We’ll be celebrating the eclipse and equinox on Saturday 21st March at my Yin Yang workshop (there are a couple of places left)

I’m also thrilled to be planning two workshops in Johannesburg on 18th and 19th April and an Inspired intention workshop in Durban on the 25th April. See below for details.

Blessings

Lifelight Astrology March 2015

yin yang fire water By Michelle McClunan

It’s the final countdown beautiful people … not only of our astrological year, but also to the Grand Finale Uranus Pluto Square, for the 6th and final time since June 2012

I’ve written a lot about this over the last few years, but here’s an ABF quick re-cap of this paradigm-shifting transit, that’s been pushing and pummelling us for so long – lest we may have missed it’s message!

Uranus in Aries (revolutionary energy that demands brand-new change) cracks open and reveals the old stuff that has been swept under the proverbial carpet (Pluto) – in a nutshell, whatever we’ve been numbing out, running away from or just flat-out denying, is very likely to come drifting up to the surface… again! This goes further than ourselves of course, to include the governments, the banks, the climate, the state of Mother Earth – the whole caboodle.  No doubt about it, things are coming out into the open and something is shifting on our little blue planet.

A good clue as to how the energy may be playing out in your own life is to become very aware of how your body reacts, when an outer challenge hits you like a Thunder God. You know the feeling… there you are, happy as a sand-boy,  when out of the blue, there’s that  sms, that email or somebody says or does  just the thing, that in an instant has the ability to reduce you to a quivering lump of jelly or a raging inferno.  Sneaky little pain bodies, hanging out in the basement of our unconscious, waiting for Uranus in Aries to come and break em out!

Every time that happens, right there, the Universe is presenting us with yet another opportunity to  notice, inquire about, surrender and clear… all the while being the ever-loving, ever-patient parent to ourselves.

If you have your Natal chart and understand a bit about houses, the house that contains 15 Degrees Capricorn represents old fears, beliefs and baggage that  could do with a little more clearing. The house that  contains 15 Degrees Aries, is where you are being pushed to assert yourself and move forward. If you haven’t had a reading for a while, now would be a good time.

For further clarification  of whats coming up for you– if you keep a journal, (or  just have a really good memory) think back to the previous dates that the square was exact and see if you can find a pattern.  June/July 2012; September/October  2012;  May/June 2013,  October/ November, 2013 , April  2014;  November/December  2014.

New moon on the 20th March is a total solar eclipse, that falls at the very last degree of Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, This is a very powerful time to dump whatever we no longer need, so that we’re clear and free to start the new Astrological year, when the sun enters Aries the next day.

Along with the Sun in Pisces, we also have a batch of personal planets in Aries for most of the month. There are no two signs that are less alike than the Fish and the Ram.

Focused Fiery Aries is a Yang sign – masculine, driven, in control. When the Warrior is in balance, we are able to initiate, pioneer and send our beautiful courageous energy out into the world, for all to see. When he’s out of balance, the energy is a little like a run away fire, burning everything that stands in the way of achieving what he wants – hot-headed, tantrum-throwing, aggressive and self absorbed are some words to describe an Aries/ fire imbalance.

And then there’s dreamy, watery, seductive Pisces, a Yin sign – feminine, receptive, imaginative and connected. When she’s in balance, we are able to be more creative, more compassionate, surrender more, let go of what we don’t need,  and connect with the Divine more deeply. When she’s a raging torrent however, we become overwhelmed, delusional and escapist, often reaching for the nearest thing that will numb the pain and take us into another zone.

So how do we deal with these polarities?  The Autumn Equinox on the 21st  March gives us a clue. The equinox signifies the balance point in our year, where day and night are equal in length. It symbolises the union between Yin and Yang; the inner world and the Outer world; Water and fire; Sun and Moon, Feminine and Masculine; the unseen and the seen; logical and intuitive, conscious and unconscious.

What we’re being called upon to do right now is to really integrate and balance  the male (yang)  and the female (yin) within ourselves.

Whenever we can bring ourselves into our heart centre, (which is the unity point between masculine and feminine), we move into  neutrality, into a state “beingness” rather than “doingness” and it’s there we find peace and unity.

We will be working with this through the powerful ancient symbol of the Yin Yang, in my March Workshops and Wednesday classes this month– see below  for details or if you’ve accessed this via my blog, click here

If you feel yourself being triggered or spinning out this month, try this:

  • Stop
  • Breathe (for longer on the out- breath than the in-breath)
  • Drop and soften your shoulders, put them back a bit to open your heart
  • Gently imagine gathering your energy into a core centre line running from above your head to beneath your feet, spreading out like roots into the earth.
  • Soften the area around your heart
  • Keep doing that for a minute or two and check in again with your body

Try it now. …Seriously, you can do this at any time during the day – while driving, standing in a queue, dealing with a tricky customer – it takes seconds and you do not have to be sitting in the lotus position meditating. I practiced it whilst sitting in a queue at SARS yesterday (not my best place in the world)  and I have to tell you, it really helped!

If you have a little more time, you might want to do the “Living in the Heart” meditation by Drunvalo Melchizadek. It’s perfect for this month

Blessings everybody

Lifelight Astrology January 2015 – Comfort Zones be Gone!

Wings R B

Happy New year everyone – may this one be the one where we expand… move forward, upward and onward on our journeys, this seemingly being the theme for 2015.

First of all, although I’m not a numerologist, this is a power 8 year. When you turn an 8 on its side, it’s an infinity symbol, so we are being encouraged to let go of limitations and embrace the limitless opportunities that the Universe presents to us. The symbol 8 also represents the physical world and the spirit world and the weaving together of the two.

Astrologically, the big news is that Saturn, the planet that rules responsibility, maturity and practical goal setting, has moved out of the deep dark waters of Scorpio where it’s spent the last 2.5 years or so.  As it starts it’s journey through Sagittarius the optimistic far-seeing archer (yahoo!), it should start to feel more and more as if we’re coming out of the basement and re-adjusting our eyes to the light.

We’re being called upon to reassess and clarify the visions we have for our lives and take responsibility for bringing them into reality – no more cogitating or procrastinating.

The full moon on Sunday in Cancer (which activates the Uranus Pluto Square) sets the scene for the month and the whole year quite frankly, as one of challenging our comfort zones.  It’s so easy to stay where we feel “safe” and “secure” (Cancer) but really, what does that even mean? Every single second of every day, it’s all changing anyway and by endlessly holding onto what we think is safe, we stop growing and start stagnating.

I’ve just spent the last week or so, on a sailing boat with 4 other people, doing two 15 hour journeys at sea (the pic above was taken of us by someone in Ballito at about 5am). Let me tell you, I learnt a whole lot about comfort zones and what it’s like to be taken right out them, in one foul swoop. Every single one I had was challenged, as we rocked and rolled on the wild Indian Ocean. Sharing a living space with relative strangers was one (quite a  challenge for someone with an uber-private 12th house moon). Another was learning how to make coffee down “below” with one hand, while the other held on for dear life, lest I get thrown clear across the cabin (which kinda did happen, until I started getting the hang of it)

I quickly learnt not to walk anywhere or do anything, without holding onto something “solid”. As a result, I started to become very attuned to the present moment in time, being conscious of every movement I made (especially whilst “up above”) to prevent myself from slithering across the deck or being unceremoniously tossed into the sea.  One momentary lapse of attention and away you go…and there’s no other person watching out for you. They’re too busy seeing to their own survival and rightly so!  Confirmation of another life lesson… we and only we, are responsible for our lives!

My levels of observation quickly increased, as I watched for swinging booms, ropes that are really easy to trip over and stairs that you can fall down in a heartbeat. I also started becoming very conscious of where I put things, so that I could find them easily if I needed to, in the dark if necessary. I even had the experience of steering the boat a few times, something you can only do half properly if you’re awake, aware and tuned into the wind and the motion of the waves – much like navigating life.

Interestingly,  as someone who doesn’t generally sleep well, even to the sound of frogs croaking, somehow I was able to sleep solidly and deeply for stretches of time, despite the movement and the noise (of the wind in the sails, the sea and sometimes the motor).  When I chatted about this to my friend, the skipper, he told me that he thought it was because the boat was like a womb in the ocean, holding us. When there’s nothing else you can do, you have to surrender yourself completely to the boat, the skipper, the ocean and the Universe… an amazing lesson for me and another metaphor for life.   In the midst of chaos, we can find peace and “security” if we surrender.

And now on the other side of the journey, with a few bruises to prove my encounters with galley cabinets,  I am so glad  I didn’t listen to the voices in my head that were telling me I was stark staring crazy to go on such a trip.  There is nothing quite like being out there on the endless, living, breathing ocean, watching the sun rise at 4:30 in the morning and the twinkling lights of ships or the distant shoreline in the evening, emerging out of the inky blackness.

I feel expanded somehow, as a result of stretching myself  and somehow, I think, a little spark has been re-ignited inside me, restoring my belief in this wondrous life. Thank you to my travelling companions for making it possible.

And so, this month and this year, I encourage you to ask yourself what would really stretch you…what would re-ignite your flame? What would take you out of your comfort zone?  What would really challenge you?  What are the things you’ve wanted to do for ages, but have put off for one reason or another?  What if you pulled those ideas out of the closet and breathed some life into them?

That book you’ve always wanted to write; the trip you’ve always wanted to go on; an adventure you want to embark on; the creative project you’ve been shelving; the vege garden you’ve wanted to plant; the fitness level you’ve wanted to achieve; the business you’ve wanted to start?

What are you waiting for?  If you’re waiting until you have no doubt or no fear you’re going to wait forever.

This is the time to start bringing your visions into reality!.

There is still space on my Vision Board workshops on the 10th and 24th January. See below or email me for details.

In love, life and adventure

Lifelight Astrology – December 2014

Middleground

By Michelle McClunan

Well, here we are, heading for the home stretch of 2014, which has been a blurringly quick, busy, somewhat challenging year for many of us. It’s certainly  been a bit of a whopper for me, but the blessings and learnings have been immense too!  Dark and Light, Pain and Liberation, Sadness and Joy – the polarities or life!

When I look at the Astrology for December, it’s clear that this is a month filled to the brim with more of the same paradoxes, contrasts and perhaps challenges, as well as great opportunities to shift, heal and grow.

In astrology we have these pesky little aspects called squares, which occur when two planets are locked into a stressful ninety degree angle with one other – a lot like being confined in a room, with someone whom we have nothing in common with, or seriously don’t like… for an extended period of time.  With nowhere to run, we are pushed to find the commonalities between us and to reach a level of acceptance.  This is exactly what squares do – they aren’t designed to just give us a hard time. They’re there to help us  s t r e t c h and grow, tiresome as that might be sometimes.

Many of us may find ourselves facing some squares over the Festive Season, which is when we get to spend more time than usual with family, extended family, partners,  in-laws, step relations and the like. This is generally guaranteed to bring to the surface all sorts of issues, which we thought our adult selves had dealt with and packed neatly away. As they say, if you think you’re enlightened, spend a weekend with your family!

Without going into too much complicated Astrology, we essentially have two major squares between slower moving planets that are being activated this month.

The good old Uranus Pluto square, which I’ve written about a lot in past, becomes exact for the 6th time since 2012. The last time it will happen will be in March 2015 –  glory be!

Briefly, Pluto, the agent of death, rebirth and regeneration (transformation) is in patriarchal conservative Capricorn, which represents control, tradition, the old guard, governments, corporate structures etc.  Revolutionary Uranus is in fiery, impulsive, aggressive Aries, defender of the peoples’ rights. What this means for the planet is essentially a revolution, where “the people” fight the establishment. It also has a habit of bringing deep dark secrets and compulsions  (Pluto) out of hiding and into the light – largely through the media (Uranus) The latest sex scandal with Bill Cosby is just one example. The women who he allegedly abused, are risking their reputations after decades and spilling the beans to the media, about the man who was a traditional father figure to so many, for so long. This is a literal example of Uranus Pluto at work.

What it means for us personally is that it’s yet another opportunity to connect with whatever is lurking in the shadows of our own psyches, bring it up to the surface, pick out the gems and ditch the rest.  As a fellow coach said the other day, “Decide what’s not serving you, kiss it goodbye and let it go”.

It’s a time for questioning the old guard that resides within us and ushering in the new. All those old hackneyed beliefs and judgements about everything that we’ve held for so long – are they even valid and how are they serving us?. It’s also about asking where and how we are trying to control the world around us and how that’s   working.

Anxiety levels about our country, our world and our planet are running high, as everywhere you go, people are talking about the crime, the injustice, the unfairness, the ineptitude, the insecurity.  Although most of us can relate to it in some way, we need to ask ourselves whether it serves us to talk about it all the time or to engage with people who do.

Is it changing anything or just bringing our personal and collective vibrations to their knees?  It’s one thing if there’s something we can actually do to change a situation, but if there isn’t, our energy is better employed at addressing what we can change about our own lives or attitudes For me, the quickest way to change my attitude, is to enter into a state of gratitude. I was given such a wonderful example by a friend the other day, who, whilst  driving to class, ran through her body and expressed gratitude for each part of it. This instantly lifted her vibration and her spirits. Every single one of us can do that, any time we choose to.

We also have the choice, every minute of every day, as to whether we are going to enter into the downward spiral of judgement and criticism or not.

The other square that’s happening involves the giants, Jupiter and Saturn. These two polar opposites are currently engaged in an interesting kick boxing match. Where Saturn is about old knowledge, maturity, tradition, categorising, control, judgement, limitation, contraction,  duty, conservative outlooks and responsibility, Jupiter is about liberation, expansion, broader perspectives,  new knowledge and higher learning.

This square asks us to consider, in any given moment, whether something is contracting or expanding us and then make our choices from there.

As we hurtle towards the finishing line of 2014, Saturn and Jupiter advise us to take a bit of time out, to do a stock-take and ask ourselves some questions that will reveal what we’ve learnt this year.

I’m running one workshop on the 13th December, where we will explore this theme as a small group, through visualisation, reflection, and art. Using a combination of painting, words and imagery, we will tell our 2014 story in a GRATITUDE COLLAGE.  I still have a couple of places available, so please email me for more details.  michvr@intekom.co.za

An unexamined life is not worth living” – Socrates

Here are some of questions to ask yourself before year end – the Gemini full moon on  6th December would be a great time to do it.

  •  What would you like to kiss goodbye to, along with 2014?
  •  What were the things or who were the people that challenged you and contributed to your growth in  2015?
  •  What are you grateful for, right now?
  •  What new truths have you learnt this year and how will you embrace them and expand them further in the year to come?’
  •  If you made one lifestyle change for your mental, physical, spiritual, emotional health in 2015, what would it be?

When I did this recently with a bunch of life coaches (thanks to you all), the clearest thing that came up for me was the word “Surrender”. Much of what has happened in my life this year, has been largely out of my control and has more or less pushed me into a place of acceptance. While I was mulling this over yesterday, the word middle ground kept on coming up.  I looked up some synonyms for the word –  golden mean, centre, happy medium, neutral territory, interface – all of which resonated hugely.

For me, taking the middle ground seems to be one of best ways to navigate the extremes and embrace the changes that are happening at any given time. It means not judging whether something is good or bad, but rather staying neutral.

Words like “neutrality” and  “surrender”  get a bit of a bad rap, unfortunately, as they’re often seen as boring or weak or jelly fishy. That’s certainly how I used to perceive them. However, more and more I’m realising, that when things feel overwhelming, if I can remember to stop, lean back, step away, breathe deeply, soften and unclench my jaw and my fists, I start entering into a place of neutrality and can actually feel my heart softening. The neutral place is where the Divine resides.

It’s the still point in the storm, where we can connect with the higher part of ourselves,  see the situation from a broader perspective and open the way for magical, infinite insights and possibilities. I’ve noticed when I do loosen (not let go of) the reigns for a while, Lo and Behold, things actually have a way of wobbling into place all by themselves, without my controlled intervention…fancy that!

Another tool that helps us find the middle ground is to find a symbol or an image that re-aligns us.  It might be the centre point of a spiral or the place of meeting in an infinity symbol or the dot in the middle of a circle (the symbol for the Sun) or something else that resonates for you. You could imagine gathering your energy inwards, towards a core centre line, or walking to the centre of a labyrinthe or  bringing a wildly swinging pendulum to the quiet, stillpoint close to the ground.

Whenever you need to re-align yourself – call your image up in your imagination, take a few deep breaths, relax, soften, run through your 5 senses and then consider 3 things that you are grateful for. Et Voila – you will be back in your centre – back in the middle ground. The more we do that, the more fertile that middle ground will become and the easier it will be to go there.

The grass is not greener on the other side, its greener where you water it.

Thank you to all my valued friends, clients, colleagues and readers of my ramblings, for being such a vital and cherished part of my life. You are my teachers and my  green grass.

With love

Michelle

LIFE LIGHT ASTROLOGY UPDATE – 10th November 2013

Mature feminineSunday’s first Quarter moon has set the scene for an interesting week. First of all, most of you will be pleased to know that Mercury will turn direct on Tuesday, so computer and communication glitches should start easing up. However there’s still some dreaminess and possible confusion around  for most of the week, so be careful when making decisions or signing contracts. Use the creative energy to make or appreciate art, music, dance,  or to spend time in nature, connecting with the beauty around you, even for 5 minutes a day.

The focus this week  is firmly on the Feminine, with Venus, the planet of love, beauty and money having just entered Capricorn, where she will stay until March next year. She brings with her a level of maturity in the way we handle our relationships, our finances and whatever is valuable to us. If you have a creative outlet which you enjoy, you may feel called upon to spend more time with it and take it more seriously. This earthy Venus also encourages us to find and feel gratitude in our everyday lives, to roll up our sleeves and commit to attending to the present moment, with as much grace as possible.

In my December Art & Soul workshop – we’ll be looking back on the past year and creating a beautiful Gratitude Collage. Click here for more details

As Venus joins Pluto on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, she invites us to  consciously excavate whatever’s been left unattended to in our relationships, financial affairs, or our creativity, without being drawn into the drama of the story, which will be very tempting. Make a commitment to yourself to bring anything you’ve been ignoring or putting off, out into the open.

Those financial worries and woes? – sit down and face them.

Whatever you’ve been procrastinating about – just do it.

The relationship issue that’s been niggling you? Have a heart-to-heart discussion with the person. This is a powerful opportunity to heal our relationships on a deeper level than before.

Any gremlins left unattended and ignored are likely to come bubbling, full of fire and brimstone, to the surface anyway, so we might as well lift the lid gently before that happens.

All in all, this is a great week to embrace the mature, grounded feminine side of yourself, to  show up, feel what you feel and deal with what needs to be dealt with, one step at a time… mountain goat style.
