New Moon November – Jewels from the Depths

New Moon November 7th, sets the scene for the month ahead, so even if you miss it, this may be worth reading.

The upcoming New Moon is deeply intense, transformational and healing, being in Scorpio – a feminine, fixed water sign and trine to Neptune (mystical, magical,  healer of the unconscious and ruler of our dreamworld)  On the same day, Uranus moves back into Aries (from Taurus), opposes Venus and squares the nodal axis.  And lastly, Jupiter travels through the 29th degree of Scorpio, before he moves into Sagittarius. Final degrees are always known as a critical point on the wheel.  I explored Jupiter in Scorpio here

That’s a lot of astrology, I know… so I’ll try and break it down!

SCORPIO – INTO THE DEPTHS

Scorpio energy is always intense, focused, intimate and penetrative – interested not in superficiality, but rather in what lies beneath the surface. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation. Both the sign and the planet are often referred to as the Plumbers of the Zodiac, so this is the time of the year when those plumbing rods need to be sent down into darker, shadowy parts of our psyches to clear out the pipes.   I find it interesting to note how many people are experiencing flu-like/ mucous-filled symptoms right now (fixed water), or water issues in the home – which seem to be difficult to shift.  This new moon seems like the purge we need.

THE SHADOW

Whether we like it or not, we all have parts of ourselves that we don’t like much…  shadow selves – the things we fear, self-doubts, denials, raging emotions.  Very often we are taught to repress the shadow, or are told that it is somehow unacceptable or “un-spiritual”, if there’s even such a thing!

We’re generally encouraged to embrace the light, not the dark!  This New Moon can lead us  through the darker, hidden sides of ourselves and into healing, if we let her.  We really cannot go forward, until we have faced whatever is buried within us and what is holding us back. If we do have the courage to explore beneath the surface, we might find that our  inner conflicts become our greatest strengths. At this time of the year astrologically, we are  urged to heal the unresolved issues about who we really are  (at the deepest level) and what we truly want to be.  This is transformation and life will effectively provide us with ample opportunities to work with it right now.

Some of you might feel a curtain go down at the thought of that. You might even be tempted to stop reading.

But before you leave…this doesn’t mean we have to hang out in the shadows forever or soak ourselves in the stagnant water!  Rather, it’s a call to connect with the wise observer, explore a bit and see what’s hiding there. If you do this, you might find that you bring to light some real jewels. It’s a very powerful time to investigate your dreams (Neptune) or your current life circumstances symbolically  and/or creatively!

HOW DO WE WORK WITH THIS?

There are many ways of doing this, but here’s one – a personal example, which is happening in my life right now:

On the superficial or mundane level, over the past year, with Jupiter (my personal chart ruler) moving through Scorpio, and Saturn opposing my Sun (in Cancer – the sign of the home), I’ve experienced a series of seriously challenging issues regarding my home/property, amongst which have been without doubt, the most awful tenants I’ve ever had.  They have finally left the property (happy dance) and new people have arrived.  All clear?  Nope! – even though I am very eager to clear their stagnant energy and start afresh, there’s now an issue with a boat… yes… a boat!  My delightful ex-tenants decided, in all their infinite wisdom to haul a great big ugly-ass boat down the steepest driveway in Hillcrest and now they can’t get it out!

What do I do with this and why even mention it?  It’s just life right?  Trivial even?   Well yes… but for me, viewing things like this symbolically makes life richer and more rewarding. Even though this is a frustrating life event, which I would dearly like to disappear forever, I decided to work it and drill down to explore it more.  So yesterday, after waking from a rather emotionally unsettling dream, which started stirring the waters to reveal a whole tribe of feelings – ranging from abandonment, fear to insecurity  (emotions emerging from the unconscious), I decided to write it all down in my trusty, ever faithful, non-judgement journal,  a practice which I wholeheartedly recommend.

THE BOAT

Well… there it was… the ugly ass boat came creeping onto the page and when I dug a little more, by asking some very obvious questions, rather a lot was revealed. When working like this, don’t assume you know the answer. Take the time to write it down and let the answer emerge. You can use this process to decode your dreams too.

This was the gist of it.  I  have been, and intend to go, even deeper than this, but I’m sharing the basics with you.

Q: What is a boat? A: It’s a vehicle which transports you though water

Q What is water symbolically  A: For me it represents emotion, often unconscious

Q: Where is the boat? A: It’s stuck on land (out of it’s element) at the bottom of my driveway, in my garden.

And a bit deeper:

Q: What does this tell me?  A:  That there is some “not so pretty”  stuff which needs to be dealt with; possibly some stuck or blocked emotions or fears related to my security,  home (inner and outer) that needs to be shifted. Well… yeah!

Q: What is the solution to the boat?  A: It might be that the boat can’t be taken out all at once (as I would prefer) but may have to be carted out piece by piece!  Or they’re going to have to hire a truck – in other words  – get some assistance.

On  a deeper level, what this reveals to me is that

  1. I may need some help in dealing with shifting my stuckness.
  2. I may have to deal with it bit by bit, and not all at once, even though I want it to be gone now!

So – that’s what I’m doing. The Universe answered the call with an extremely powerful session with a treasured and highly gifted healer friend, during which I experienced rather  a momentous energetic/ emotional shift, which  extended into the even and which I’m still working through.

Once again, the challenges that life present, turn out to be exactly the teachers I need… if I choose to see them like that.

Straight after journaling yesterday,  a post appeared on my timeline by a truly remarkable soul and therapist Matt Licata, who describes this, as well as the current Astrology more fluidly and cohesively than I could ever do, even though he’s not an astrologer.

Emotionally-sensitive, somatically-grounded inner work is unique to each person. We must discover for ourselves the most skillful, effective, and compassionate ways to open and enter into the body, psyche, and heart. No other can reveal the right way for us. The journey is individual and unique by nature, requiring experiential, primary experience; a collective spirituality will never meet the longing within.

It is difficult to tend to the shadow and lost pieces of psyche on our own, and is often best approached via an empathic, attuned relational field, where our experience can be co-regulated and integrated slowly, by way of the relational field itself. To “borrow” another’s soothed, calm nervous system as we enter uncharted territory.

The way of direct revelation is not the easy way. It is not the path of five-steps to empowerment, manifestation, or thinking our way into permanent happiness, abundance, and bliss. While it is natural to want clear methods and direction, it is too wild inside us for all that. It is a humble journey, heart-wrenching at times, as we will inevitably be asked to compassionately tend to the disowned as it surges for reunion.

The goal is not to become dependent upon another in an unhealthy way, but over time to practice the art of self-regulation and be able to shift wisely, skillfully, and compassionately between the two.

Wherever you are on your journey, you can ask a guide to bear witness as you move into unknown territory, honuoring the immensity of the call to wholeness. Find a therapist, lover, mentor, or friend; a tree, a bird, a mountain, or dog; the sky, the sun, the stars, or the mud. A God or Goddess, wise inner figure, or being of light.

Allow your symptoms to merge into these protectors and enter into dialogue, practicing intimacy with the inner material, while simultaneously not fusing with it.

It is unlikely we’ll ever fully understand or resolve the mystery of self and other, separation and union, sun and moon. But we can break open into the questions together, as beginners, as amateurs, and as servants of the mystery.

That kind of says it all, really!

NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

I will be running two more workshops this year and then will be taking a break for December.

I’ll be available for astrology consults for the month of November and then I will be taking a break until January. Please let me know asap if you would like to set up an appointment, as  my November diary is filling up!.

CHANGING PERSPECTIVES  WORKSHOP – 17 NOVEMBER

Jupiter’s move into Sagittarius urges us to see things from a different perspective – turn things upside down, shake them up a bit and see what emerges. I  experience this SO  often in my own art and whilst facilitating Intuitive Art Workshops and private sessions.

When we make art from the inside out,  we allow whatever is there, to bubble up to the surface. Then we take a step back…look at the painting  from a different position…turn it upside down a few times. And suddenly… there it is…an image…. an idea…. a light goes on!  We see something for the first time. It speaks to us. There’s an inner heart knowing that we will never be able to see ” it”the same way again.

There is a permanent shift in our perspective.. from the inside!. We’ll be exploring the theme artistically in my workshop on 17th November. Let’s see what arises!  Email me for details

THE ART OF COMPLETION – 18 NOVEMBER

As we hurtle towards the end of the year, I have decided to offer a Completion Day workshop.

  • You might want to attend Saturday and Sunday (R100 off if you do) and use the second day to deepen and fine tune your Perspectives artwork.
  • Or you might choose to do a Completion Collage, reflecting back on the year.
  • Or you are welcome to finish a piece of art you have started during the year, but not got around to finishing.

That  kind of says it all and to finish off the blog, I’m sharing one of my favourite poems by David Whyte – Everything is Waiting for you.

Lifelight Astrology 20th April 2016

Eagles fighting

This Friday 22nd April, we have a transformational full moon in Scorpio,  a highly complex misunderstood and sometimes feared  sign. What many people don’t understand is that Scorpio has three different symbolic totem associations – the scorpion, who aggressively exercises power through emotion and instinct and will sting you on the foot without a second glance;  the Eagle, who sees all, discerns hidden motives, discovers deeper truths below the surface of life and exercises power through the intellect;  and the Dove of Peace or Phoenix, who  observes compassionately without judgement and exercises power through love,  healing and transformation.

When there is Scorpio energy around, issues around power and powerlessness tend to come spiralling up from the murky waters of the unconscious. There can be fear, there can be conflict, there can be war… and there can be healing!.

This is an interesting full moon because BOTH of Scorpio’s rulers – Mars and Pluto, have just turned retrograde. This only happens with Mars once every two years, so its relatively rare. His retrograde cycle lasts until the 30th June, beginning in Sagittarius and ending in  Scorpio.  Saturn and Jupiter are in also retrograde and Mercury in Taurus will be joining the gang from  30th April until 24th May… joy of joys! Start backing up your data now!

So… we have a strongly Martian / retrograde theme – which are almost diametrically opposed to each other. It’s very much a push pull energy.

Mars is the  masculine planet of forward motion, assertion,  aggression, defence and war. He  determines how we go after our goals, how we meet challenges and how we react in the face of fear or stress. Very often when Mars goes retrograde, things get delayed, we feel irritated (largely because we want to keep moving forward) and the aggravation can lead to anger or even rage, which is stirred up from the depths of our beings. .

As always, there is a reason for this – the planets aren’t out to get us, even if it seems that way sometimes. We’re being given yet another chance to check in with ourselves and this time, to see how we react to stressful, potentially volatile situations.

Most of us are familiar with the  Fight or flight syndrome, when faced with a threat or a stressor.

FIGHT – when we instinctively and impulsively act, attack or defend.  This comes in really handy if we’re being chased by a lion, or we need to jump into survival mode. We’ve all heard stories about women who have suddenly accessed super human strength and lifted cars off their children to save their lives. When we’re in fight mode, adrenaline courses through our veins and we are stronger, faster and potentially more lethal than at any other time.

The problem is, many of us are living in that mode almost constantly – which has resulted in us being an over-stressed, aggressive and volatile society.

FLIGHT –when we turn and run – as fast as possible in the opposite direction.  Other ways that we flee, are by  numbing ourselves out – getting busy, zoning out in front of the tv, reaching for the wine or whisky bottle – anything to just make the issue go away.

FREEZE – a lesser known reaction is the “deer in the headlights” syndrome. When faced with the threat/ aggressor/stressful situation, we just freeze – unable to move or respond in any way.  Sometimes, this is good, because it gives us a moment to assess what’s going on and to re-group. Usually we recover relatively quickly and can then put on the boxing gloves or scamper off.  It becomes problematic when the paralysis continues and we become scared of making the wrong move in our lives, so we  do nothing at all.

FACE – We take some deep breaths and face the situation or the person in a direct, but non-aggressive way.

I’m going to add a 5th option:

FEEL – When somebody or something presses our buttons, we allow first acknowledge the sensations in our body and the feelings that we are feeling, without judgement – breathing at the same time.

And then… when the feelings settle, we decide how we are going to respond.

We all have our automated ways of dealing with fear or stress and this Mars Retrograde (in Sagittarius/Scorpio) challenges us to explore other ways of responding.  If we generally freeze or flee, then we might need to become more assertive. If we tend to fight first and think later, we might need to practice a less confrontational way of protecting or defending ourselves and dealing with our masculine energy.

This is a good time to reflect on some situations in your own life and find out what your patterns are.

This is how I unpacked one experience in my own life, which happened last year whilst helping out at a retreat centre overseas.  When I arrived there, I quickly discovered that the person who ran the place was rather grumpy and somewhat abrasive – not what I expected. As a result, I more or less  kept out of his way, until one morning, when he raged at me in front of the entire team, due to not receiving a telephone message.

The first thing I felt, was the heat rising to my face and that familiar old “kick in the solar plexus”. In an instant, I was right back to being an 8 year old child,  being shouted at by a  a red-faced, rather manic step-father. I  froze… tears prickling in my eyes, rooted to the spot.

Then my  fiery gut instinct kicked in (I have Mars in Leo!)… fight… go to war… give it straight back, in no uncertain terms…take him on… I mean, “how dare he!” But, I’ve been rocking around on this planet for long enough to know that going in with guns blazing does NOT generally work out well in my life, however righteous I might feel at the time.

And then I fled. For the rest of the day, I weeded in the garden like a mad-woman, allowing every conceivable emotion to surface – the anger, the humiliation, the indignation, the unfairness,  (and I can tell you, they were definitely NOT all about him) He had triggered my ‘man” issues in techni-colour.  Later that night, I burnt up the pages of my journal, letting it all out, leaving nothing unsaid, mounting a thorough investigation into the stories I was telling myself. It was quite a night!

When it was all out, I meditated for a while and when I was calm,  I asked myself what the most self- valuing thing I could do, would be. One option was to  get the hell out of there the next morning, another was just to ignore the whole thing as if nothing had happened and the third was to face him. I elected to do the third, because I knew that was  my 8 year old needed me to do.

So… the next morning, I requested a meeting with him, which lasted all of 2 minutes. I sat down opposite him, and clearly, calmly (yes I know, even I was shocked at me) stated that I felt that the way he had handled the situation was not acceptable to me.  And guess what… right there and then, his eyes softened, he said that I was right and asked if I would accept his apology. Here’s the kicker –for the rest of my stay, we got on like a house on friendly fire.  I am, to this day, so grateful for the amazing healing opportunity that his man presented with me with.

And that is, as  I see it, what this full moon in Scorpio is all about. Its an opportunity to feel, investigate,  transform and heal.

The one thing I know for sure is that we can always choose whether we’re  going to go to war or not.  We can also choose whether we’re going to engage with and get involved in other peoples’ drama. I chatted to a dear friend yesterday who said it’s like standing on the edge of a murky dirty, smelly river. We get to choose whether we’re going to plunge into it, or not.

On 21st May, in keeping with this symbolic transformation theme, I’ll be running an Art & Soul workshop,  where we will access and creatively engage with, our Power Animals and see what they have to tell us. Email me for details

I also  have some space left on my SLOW Retreat in the Midlands from 6th to 8th May, where we will spend the whole weekend reveling in the senses (Taurus) and making the most of the retrograde energy by slowing down, reflecting and revitalising.

New Moon 11th November – Life, Light and Shadows

Butterly

By Michelle McClunan

One of the things I love about writing these newsletters is that I get to ponder things more deeply and intensely than usual… deep and intense both being properties of Scorpio, along with transformation and change, our theme for November.

On the 11th November, we have a New Moon in Scorpio, joined by Mercury, which means that the focus is on giving careful consideration to and transforming our beliefs and the way we think and communicate.

As we hurtle at breakneck speed towards the end of the year, rest assured, you are not alone if you feel like the world is a difficult place to be in. The “shift” that many of are continuing to experience, I believe, is about how we deal with what’s going on “out there”… “in here”.

“The only way out… is in!”

The reality is that the world will continue to change… there have always been and possibly always will be wars, illness, natural disasters and violence. People will likely continue to let us down, cut in front of us in the traffic, get sick, die and leave us. Governments and politics will continue to be …well … government and politics. As long as the planet is turning and we’re on it, there will continue to be strife and struggle and darkness, but… for every strife, there is a joy… for every struggle, liberation and for every bit of darkness, there is light. Helen Keller said it like this “Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I’ve learned that whatever state I may be in, therein to be content.”

As hard as we try to escape the darkness in life, it’s just not possible. Our own shadows are eternally connected to us. In fact, if you think about it, the only way we can change the shape of our shadows is by shifting our position or our viewpoint. We can also choose whether to focus only on the shadow or on the light that is casting it. In every minute, of every day, we have the choice of how we’re going to handle each and every situation we are presented with. We choose whether we’re going to see something as a crisis or an opportunity, whether we’re going to stand in the sidelines shivering in fear or embrace it all with gusto – the bumps, roadblocks, joys and victories in equal measure.

The only way to really transform on a deep level is to change the way we view things, which requires a bit of investigation into the thought patterns and beliefs that run our lives. This month, the intense Scorpio energy helps us to access that information and start to transmute it. Scorpio is the plumber of the zodiac, so there’s a  good chance that “stuff” from the past will come up to the surface in the next few days– old emotional hurts,  issues, resentments and regrets.  Other things that are likely to come up, are concerns about money, power and sex.  You may also experience  “water” issues in your home, body or vehicles. I personally have just discovered a problem with my car’s water pump, which I choose to see as symbolic. Some emotional engine overhauling and clearing out is on the agenda for me.

The bible says “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind”

There’s a lovely story about two Buddhist monks who came upon a woman needing to cross a stream. The older monk carried her across on his back, but when he set her down she ran off without so much as a thank you. After walking for several more hours the two monks arrived at the monastery whereupon the younger monk simply could not stand it anymore. “You shouldn’t have carried that woman across the stream. She did not deserve your kindness, she did not even bother to thank you.”

The older monk replied, “I put her down hours ago, why are you still carrying her?

What are you still carrying around?

This new moon is the best one this year to do some internal plumbing, bring to the surface and release disempowering beliefs, thoughts and behaviours… fears, deeply ingrained knee-jerk reactions, resentments and sadnesses.

Sit quietly. Allow whatever needs to arise, to arise. Breathe, allow, release.  And then plant some healthy vibrant new seeds in the form of empowering beliefs.

I have some space left on my Metamorphosis workshops on the 14th or 28th November. I will also be hosting two workshops in December to give you the chance to take stock of 2015 before year end and to tie it up into a neat package before entering 2016.  See below for more details or email me for more info if you are reading this on my blog

Metamorphosis in 7 Steps

Metamorphosis in 7 Steps

tree butterfly mandala

There’s some butterflyingly beautiful, transformational energy around for the next month folks. Right now, we have Venus, Mars and Jupiter (all in Virgo), in a gorgeous free flowing trine to Pluto (the planet of Transformation and ruler of Scorpio)…and then on the 23rd, the Sun  enters Scorpio, further assisting us in transmuting whatever we choose to, in our lives.

I’ve been fascinated by the concept of metamorphosis ever since I was a small child, when I spent my days poking holes into  shoe- box lids and  collecting mulberry leaves for my silkworms.   The process by which the caterpillar or worm turns into the butterfly or moth, has long been  used as a human metaphor for transforming states of consciousness, from one dimension to another.  With all this Scorpio Energy around,  I’m dedicating the next month’s writings, Facebook postings and Workshops to the Butterfly and the incredible process of Transformation.

The glorious, gorgeous butterfly, which not only lifts our spirits, but also serves the planet by pollinating our plants, starts off it’s life as a  caterpillar … doing it’s thing, eating and crawling and hanging out with other caterpillars, not for a minute envisaging life as anything other than a caterpillar.  And then one day, our little friend  decides he just doesn’t feel like doing the same old thing everyday, so he starts to shed his skin, stops eating and hangs upside down on a twig. It is here that he starts to spin himself a cocoon, and that’s as much as most of us know. He goes into the chyrsalis as a caterpillar and comes out as a butterfly… right?

Yep, but what happens in between?

Well, he starts to let go of his caterpillarness entirely. He actually starts to release enzymes which dissolve all his tissues, until there’s seemingly nothing left of him… just caterpillar soup! You can imagine that for the caterpillar, this probably feels a little confusing and disorientating to say the least! But it is there, in the midst of the apparent dissolution, that the magic starts to happen. A group of cells, known as imaginal discs survive the dissolution and using the protein rich soup around them, start to form the features of a butterfly.

There was order in the chaos after all!

Out of this imaginal place, emerges the possibility of the caterpillar transforming into something completely different.  It takes some time, but eventually, the wings start to form and he starts to push his way out of the cocoon.  But, its not over yet… our newly designed butterfly now needs to  struggle out of his cocoon all on his own.   The restriction of the cocoon and the difficulty required to get through the opening, forces fluid to flow from the body into the wings, so that they will be strong enough for him to fly. If he is helped out by anyone, he will literally never get off the ground.

For me, this  describes the energy of Scorpio and the theme of transformation so perfectly. We’ll explore the concept in more depth over the next month, as the full moon and new moon in November continue this theme.

In the meantime, consider the caterpillar’s story,  how you have experienced the different phases of metamorphisis in your own life and how you have emerged, time and time again. Its a good idea to journal or visual journal it.

Consider too, where you feel you might be in this process right now, bearing in mind that different parts of your life might be at different phases of transformation. i.e. your business might be in the cocoon stage, your relationship might be emerging!

Are you or is a part of your life:

  • Crawling around, tired of the same old, same old
  • Feeling the need to hang upside down (change your perspective)
  • In the cocoon/ withdrawn – feeling like things are dissolving and changing
  • Starting to imagine a new life
  • Getting ready to emerge
  • Struggling to emerge
  • Emerging as a butterfly

I am very excited to announce a brand new one-day workshop “Metamorphosis – Me as a Butterfly”  where we’ll  play with these themes in the Magical Imaginal Realm of meditation, movement and art.  I will be running the same workshop on Saturday 14th November and Saturday 28th November, so as to accommodate end of the year busy-ness . See below for details.

Lifelight Update – 16th June New Moon in Gemini

write a new story

What’s your story and is it still a page turner or are you a bit bored with it? I know I am more than ready for the New Moon on the 16th  June  to help me push the re-set/ re-write  button on mine.

Mars, the fiery warrior planet, is stepping onto the stage with the Sun and Moon in Gemini, the sign of the communicator/ talker /thinker –  bringing fire and brimstone and some extra vooma to our thought processes and communication. This is the day when we’re likely to side-step the eggshells and say it like it is, which might not be a bad idea.  We’re being given a perfect opportunity to really notice what we’re feeling, thinking and saying, to check whether the three are in alignment, and to make adjustments if they’re not. Some genius ideas might just appear too, provided we give ourselves the chance to download them.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, irritated, anxious, frustrated or downright angry lately, this new moon could provide some red hot triggers that will accentuate these feelings. If this does happen,  rather than project it onto some unsuspecting soul, use the energy to really feel the feelings and get to the bottom of those thoughts. Vent the feelings in a safe way and listen to the stories attached to them.  They might have some really important information for you about the next chapter of your life.  Write it out, talk it out (to yourself if necessary) punch a pillow, run, move, paint ….  Whatever works for you…just connect with where you are, as authentically as possible, because whatever you do, will set the scene and open the door to the next month of your life.

This is probably the best time this year, to bring to light the stories we’ve been telling ourselves for years, about our lives, and to start editing and re-writing the chapters  that aren’t serving us anymore.  So often we find ourselves repeating the same sentences, the same actions, having the same reactions and  believing that this is the way it is and that there’s nothing we can do about it, when it really is in our power to change the script.

What is the story you tell about your life and is it true?

Here are some clues to get you going.

I will never …..…………

I always …………………

I’m a  very  ……………….person.

I always wanted to ………..

I have to ………………

I’m too…………. to do …………

It’s too late to………………….

The …………… part of my life just doesn’t work

The …………….part of my life flows really easy

I believe I can do ………………………..

My ……………… situation never changes

I’m not good at………………..

I am really good at……………….

……………. is really difficult for me

……………..is really easy for me

I can’t take ……………….. any more

I’m really sick to death of ……………………..

I really wish…………………….

Another excellent clue as to finding out how our story might need to change, is to be  aware of the advice we give other people. Very often, that’s the very thing we need to do  ourselves.

The thoughts we think and the words we speak do become our reality, so doesn’t it make sense to change the story if it’s not working, take steps in that direction and re-envision our lives? It really is up to us!  Mercury has turned direct again, so it’s all systems go!

My workshops in July will be based around this theme.  In a playful way, we will connect with the stories we tell about our lives (and yes, they really can make us laugh). And then, using imagery, sharing and visual journaling, we will set about creatively re-writing the script and re-envisioning it.

I am also available to work with you on this theme on a one-on-one coaching basis

Happy New Moon everybody!

Michelle

Lifelight Astrology – 23 October

Solar Eclipse

Just before Midnight on Thursday evening (23 October) at 11:55pm (South Africa), we have a partial solar eclipse, which although not visible in South Africa, is still being  felt by us. A solar eclipse is seen as a more powerful time than a normal new moon and happens when the sun, moon and earth align and we see the moon moving across the sun, causing a shadow. This shadow or blanket effect has been felt by many of us already over the past few weeks, as many fears and issues from the past have reared their heads, along with extremes of emotion, potent dream experiences and a feeling of heaviness and confusion for many.

Every new moon marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of another and is always an opportunity to plant seeds for the moon cycle ahead – the type of seeds depend on what sign the sun and the moon are in.

This one is at 0 degrees of Scorpio and is, according to all the reading I have done, is an extraordinary opportunity for deep introspection, release, recharge and planting the seeds for our highest intentions to be manifested…. If we take time out in the next few days, we have a huge opportunity to resolve personal issues at a deeper level.  This eclipse sets the scene for the next astrological month, as the sun journeys through Scorpio, the sign of transformation

This is a chance to look at what lies beneath, to take our attention deeper, reach inside and find the truth that resides in our unconscious. Scorpio is all about deep water, which relates to unconscious emotion. This means digging a little into our feelings of vulnerability, insecurity, sadness or fear and bringing into them into the light of consciousness.

Only when we understand what our unconscious patterns are, can we start to release them. As long as they lie there unexamined and unnoticed, they continue to run the show from underground. Most of us really want to stay in the light and avoid any darkness, but this really does go contrary to the rhythms of the Universe. Everything is constantly in a state of death and regeneration. Your skin is shedding as you sit here and read this, cells are dying and new ones are growing. Everything is changing all the time and yet we resist it constantly.

Imagine a world without night time. Imagine if we weren’t given the opportunity to recharge every evening, to connect with the potent imagery our souls present to us through our dreams. Somehow we’ve got the message that being in the dark, even briefly, is wrong, that if we’re not in the light all the time, there is something wrong with is. How come? There are seasons for everything. The wave builds, crests and breaks.  All life is born, lives and dies.

What if we accepted that those times where the light gets dimmed a little in our lives have something to teach us and are as important as the light, bright happy times.  The truth is, we are never completely in the dark and we can always connect with the light that lies within us…always.  Just like the eclipse pic, it looks dark, but the light is right there too.

So with inner lantern in hand, this is the time to dig a bit deeper into those feelings. Allow them to be there for a bit and ask what they have to show you.  If for example, on your explorations, you come up with a fear such as “I’m fearful of feeling my emotions more” ask yourself “If I were to feel them more what could happen?”  The answer might be something like “I could lose control completely”.  Then prompt… “ and if you lost control completely, then what would happen?”  The answer might be “ I wouldn’t be able to function and run my life”  and “If you weren’t   able to function and run your life, then what? “I would be a failure” could be the answer – and there you have it -an unconscious fear of failure that is running your life from beneath.

Another example could be “I’m fearful of opening my heart”.  What if you did?  “If I opened my heart, I might be rejected”. “And if you were  rejected, then what? “I would feel alone” And if you were alone, how would you feel?”  “That nobody wants me”  How would that make you feel?” That I’m not good enough”

And there you have the unconscious core belief that you are not good enough. Funny this one, because the fear of opening our hearts is so common and it results in exactly what we are fearful of – shutting people out and landing up alone.

This is the most potent time to feel what you feel, find out the beliefs that lie beneath,  bring them into the light, question whether they are true, release them if they’re not and plant new ones that are.

Happy inner gardening.  Speaking of Gardening, come and “Be a Tree” for the day in November – a transformational Scorpio type workshop – see below for details

Lifelight Astrology April 2014 – A month of Big Change!

red moon

I’ve been seriously considering whether to write a newsletter this week, which is why it’s a little late, but have decided to give it a go anyway. This is a little more than an astrological write-up – the first part is more of a personal blog, straight from my heart, due to the place that I find myself in, with the astrology thrown in later. Please bear with me if this is a bit of a ramble, but I’m going to take you on a little journey to try and explain what’s going on “out there” and how it can play out in our lives, using mine as an example. If one or two of you resonate with it, then it’s served its purpose.

There’s a lot of deeply transformative stuff coming up for all of us astrologically in the next few months and the way I see it, the focus is on finding meaning in it all and in so doing, getting in touch with our authentic power.

So with that in mind here goes…  This really follows on from my last blog posted on 20th March (re-read if necessary – its under this one), where I wrote about us possibly feeling “emotionally cut off, isolated,  a tad depressed, negative, numb or even somewhat stuck…. Heavyish!”   Well!  Little did I know that a couple of days later, I would land up in hospital, where I would remain for a whole week, my physical body being prodded and plundered and my emotions roller-coastering like never before.

It’s a long story, which I’m not going to bore you with and I’m recovering back at home now, thankfully.  However, the whole experience literally brought me and my life to a complete standstill, taking me to a place where I was faced with  the possibility that this could be the beginning of the end of my physical life as I know it. Sitting alone in a sterile x-ray room, being told by a man in a white coat  that the fluid they found around your lung was likely to be due to you having  either cancer or heart failure, is pretty much guaranteed to give you a warm klap (for non South Africans, translate as a slap around the ears)   of giant proportions… or not I guess… if you’re enlightened, which I’m clearly not.  As he said the words, I could feel my egoic mind taking over, I could feel myself separating from my essence and sending my fertile imagination into some rather scary places.

This “diagnosis” led to all sorts of tests, which eventually, one by one,  ruled out both of those dire possibilities. The process of not knowing, however, took a whole week and at this point, the medical fraternity is still scratching their collective heads and  don’t have any answers as to what caused the problem that took me to hospital  in the first place and neither do I. What I do know, is that it goes way beyond the physical body. Perhaps being in the mystery is the answer for me at this point…that, as well as fully taking responsibility for my health and my life and connecting in an even deeper way.

Lying in that hospital bed at night, I had no option but to feel my feelings in techni-colour – no distractions – they ranged from bare-faced fear, to terror, sheer unadulterated panic, anxiety, unbelievable sadness, anger, aloneness, grief and even meaningless. My mind would try it’s best to rationalise it  and tell me that it would all be ok and that I could handle whatever it was and that people deal with much more momentous things than this  every second of every day.

My emotions, however, were having none of that.  It would often feel as if my heart was literally pounding in my throat, so loudly that I could hear it like an African drum had taken up centre stage inside my ears. Throughout all this, the only thing I could do was to surrender. The only thing that eased the pain, was to breathe as deeply as my lungs would allow and tell myself that I was supported by and connected to the Divine and that whatever happened, it was ok. A dear healer/teacher visited, (as did many) and did a very powerful healing on me the night before my little op and reminded me to repeat the Ho’oponopono – “I’m sorry, please forgive me, I love you and thank you”. This is one powerful mantra, which I did all the time and am still doing, until I drift off to sleep. If you don’t know this remarkable story. There are lots of links but here’s one if you want to read more.

As I continue to spend some in reflection –  writing, healing and just “being” with the feelings that come up, I find myself looking for “meaning” in a far deeper way than ever before. I’ve realised that with all the books I’ve read, courses I’ve done etc (and that’s a lot), the real work can only be done deep inside …. alone. I’m still in that place …no where near through the tunnel yet, but doing my best to surrender. In fact, what I know now is that I don’t know very much about anything all. Perhaps that’s an important step towards awakening?

For those of you who are interested and who are still reading, I do believe that the  astrology of this time is really, really urging us to walk the talk, to do what needs to be done in order to let go, transmute, wake up and bring new energy in. From late March through to May, we have yet another opportunity to go deeper, to transform and to set real authentic intentions, which will lead us towards finding real meaning and healing.  Fortunately that doesn’t mean you need get your butt kicked into a hospital ward like I did, but it does mean that transformation is going to happen one way or another.

First of all, we start the month with the Sun moving into the same degree as Uranus (planet of radical change) in Aries (new beginnings, intention) – so one interpretation would be  “Radically changing our intentions”. This activates the Uranus Pluto Square, which will later  turn into another Grand Cross (the 5th of 7 in total), which I’ve written about in detail before. This Cross will become exact again from 20th to the 22nd (over Easter), but the activation has started already. Joining Uranus and Pluto in the tight square will be lofty Jupiter, which amplifies everything and assertive/ aggressive Mars.

The next bit of this blog will mean more to people who have copies of their charts. If you don’t you can  try and intuit where it may play out or you might want to have your chart done. Astrology really does help to understand what’s going on… and what’s going on is big, people. This world, she is a-changing, like it or not and we need to keep up.

So if you have a copy of your chart, here goes. You can look up the house meanings on www.cafeastrology.com.  I’ll relate it back to my chart, to help you get the hang of it, seeing as though I’m baring all today.

  1. First Look at where  12 or 13 degrees Capricorn is in your chart. That’s where Pluto is sitting– this will be area in your life where there are old compulsions, obsessions or control issues  that you need to release. Pluto is transitting my first house, which represents the physical body, how I project myself into the world and controlling my immediate environment -Ha! So much for that!)
  1. Next,  look at the area which houses 12 / 13 degrees Aries. This is where Uranus is. This indicates the area/s in your life that needs to be radically changed.– this is where you can no longer do things the way you’ve been doing them.. any more…finito!  Mine is travelling across my 4th / 5th house cusp. This means changes in and around my actual physical home (which is happening), family relations (that too), my deepest  psychological complexes and connecting with my real spiritual home. Recent dreams of re-organising furniture and moving houses have clarified that even more for me) Watch your dreams by the way…they’ll be profound.  The 5th house is the house of creativity or procreation. Seeing as though I won’t be procreating at this point, it could mean a change in the way I express myself creatively – yay!
  1. Then  look at is where 13 degrees of Cancer resides. This is where lofty, expansive Jupiter is travelling. This is the area where you will find expansion and nurturing, where your inner child might need some care and compassion. Mine is in the house of one-on-one relationships and close friendships. Even though I’m not in a permanent partnership, I have received more nurturing this last week than I ever thought possible. Thanks to each of you –  not a single text, phone call or visit went by unnoticed or unappreciated and each one made me realise that I am not actually alone in this physical world.
  1. Lastly, wherever 13 degrees Libra is situated is where Mars, the warrior king  is hanging out. Being in Libra, this indicates that its related to how we handle our interactions with others, how we judge others and where the reflections are. This is the area where you need to find balance, harmony and authenticity. This is where you need to speak your truth with loving kindness, where you need to be a peaceful warrior. Mine is in the house which relates to groups, group work, humanitarian concerns,  friends,  as well as future goals.

So that’s the Grand Cross – hard to explain but really big and important. As if that isn’t enough, we also have not one, but two eclipses this month, representing great personal and global change. The first is on  15April (in the Southern Hemisphere). It’s a lunar eclipse which means it’s a full moon – in Libra – more relationship stuff)  This one is the first of a string of four  “blood moons” which will happen over the next year and a half.  I don’t know much about them, but books have been written about them and there’s lots to read on the internet.

Essentially what will happen is that light from the sun to the moon will be blocked by the Earth, lasting about 77 minutes (visible only in the northern hemisphere, so us down south won’t see this one L. Some speculate that the blood moons are not just the result of rare alignments and that they are part of  a biblical prophecy to be fulfilled in relevance to Israel. Guess we will just have to see.  As I say, I know nothing. J  The second (solar) eclipse is on the 29th April , which is a new moon in Taurus. More about that later in the month.

So-  if you see life as a stage, then the set is changing and a new one is being constructed, not only in  April, but for the rest of the year. As far as I can see its about  Awareness, Awakeness, Authenticity, Attention, Intention and Meaning and taking responsibility for our lives.  I found this passage recently in a book that was lent to me by another sister/friend – what would we do without em?

The goal in life is not happiness, but meaning” – based on the work of Carl Jung.

That’s a very good place for us to start. . Ask yourself …What gives my life meaning?  Am I living that, doing that, even in a small way every day?  What used to make my heart sing as a child? Do I still do any of that? How am I using the precious energy that I have? Where is my attention? Is it on thoughts of doom, gloom and anxiety, or on grand possibilities?  Am I congruent… am I walking my talk? Am I living an authentic life or behaving in certain ways, just to please others?.  Whilst we’re so busy striving, pleasing and working to achieve what we believe we need to achieve, we sometimes forget to just be ourselves. Am I able to stand in my truth and authentically say what I need to say with firm loving kindness?  Am I feeling my feelings or medicating them away with alcohol or other addictions?

When the chips are down, and you’re alone and unsure of anything, who are you  at the deepest level – Who is the “you” beyond the career, the children, the partner, house, money, responsibilities, concerns, achievements?. When all that is stripped away, what is left? What is your deepest Hearts Desire? Etymologically the word “desire” comes from the Latin de and sidus –and one interpretation is “ to have lost ones navigational star”. Have you lost sight of yours? Perhaps it’s a little dimmed? If so, now’s the time to start clearing the debris away and navigating your way back home.

Please see my newsletter or contact me for details of the  Inspired Intention workshops I’m running on this theme in April . By the way, I will not  be showing you what your heart’s desire is – you will do this yourself – I’m just the tour guide.

I leave you with this thought by a favourite astrologer of mine Tom Lescher for this week. “ If I am to be a co-creator, It’s my job to know what to water, when and how, to regulate the flow. Whatever we want to grow in our lives needs our full attention and deep intention and that’s precisely what the astrology of this month is all about.

Wheweee. That’s me, over and out for now. Thanks for reading

In life and light
