Lifelight Astrology Update – Full moon 16 January 2014

Mandal 10

EMBRACING THE FEMININE

Full moon this Thursday the 16th January is in the “feeling” sign of Cancer. Together with Venus in retrograde, the focus is firmly on embracing and expanding the mature feminine within us – men and women alike. Rather than expecting and waiting for someone else to provide what we need, we need to give it to ourselves.

With the Sun still in Capricorn, much of our energy is on our personal and practical goals, as we immerse ourselves into the responsibilities of the year ahead and work out how we intend to climb our individual mountains as it were.

As we do this, we’re being asked to remember that we are human beings and not human doings. We’re reminded this week to balance the “doing” with some heart-centred feminine “being”.

Take moments out of your busy schedule to stop… connect with your body and just notice what’s happening. Bring your attention to wherever you feel tension, pressure or pain. With gentle awareness breathe into it and allow whatever comes up to just be there, without judgement or resistance. You might see or sense a colour, a sensation, a symbol or a feeling. Notice it, accept it and allow it with a soft heart. Ask what you need and give it to yourself. This might sound “me” centred, but amazingly  the more you do this, the more you’ll notice the relationships in your life begin to change, as your gentleness and compassion is reflected back to you. As our own responses become less spiky and more considered (Capricorn), our interactions with others become smoother as well.

If each of us brings more softness, more gentlenesss into our lives, it magnifies out into the world and brings about change at a level we cannot even comprehend.

“The planet does not need more successful people. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers restorers, story tellers and lovers of all kinds”. These are the words of the Dalai Lama, who like our beloved Madiba is a Cancerian – real men, completely in touch with the Divine Feminine – that’s what the world needs now.

Footnote – As a fellow Cancerian, I wanted to share this mandala with you, painted recently by me, after a heart-centred meditation.

Please contact me if you need help with navigating the year ahead. I offer private and group Process Art sessions and astrology consultations. There are still a couple of places left on my two Vision Board Workshops on the 18th January and 8th February.

Lifelight Astrology Update – 6th January – All Aboard for 2014!

Ahoy Matey

Well Matey’s, we’re almost a week into 2014, which promises to be a  powerful, exciting and challenging voyage! As the RaRa and hype from the festive season starts to settle down, many of us are starting to face the realities and practicalities of the year ahead. There’s a chance that some of the intentions we set whilst raising our glasses might not be all that realistic or may have already seemingly fallen by the wayside… or perhaps we’re just not feeling the same verve and vigour we did a week ago…?

It’s  ok … and it’s not too late. The moon is still waxing until 16th January, so we have ten days to reassess our intentions for the month and the year ahead and to prepare ourselves for our annual voyage. To provide us with some oomph and initiative, our Lunar Mother moves into Aries late on Monday evening and on Wednesday forms a square to the sun, a lunar phase often referred to as a “crisis of action”. This is when we realise that our dreams and intentions are only going to happen if we have some kind of plan and actually put it into action and stick to it.

The Universe applauds action, not thought.

The grand cross I wrote about last week is still in play, so the energy continues to be powerful, yet potentially challenging.  Venus (the planet of love and money) joins with Mercury (communication) to assist us in facing whatever we need to in our relationships and finances. This is a good time for serious discussions with the significant people in our lives, although we need to stay centred and calm, as there may be differences of opinion or even clashes of wills.  As we look at our relationships without blinkers, some may end or need to be re-structured and others will get even stronger and more enduring.

We’re the captains of our own ships and this week we’re readying ourselves for our 2014 voyage…. Making sure we have the right people on board; checking our life-saving equipment; offloading whatever is weighing us down; setting our GPS’s for the right destinations; ensuring that our holds are well stocked, leaks are plugged and equipment is running smoothly… all ready to sail into the wild blue yonder.

If you feel that you need some help in navigating the year ahead, I’m available for astrology consultations or private coaching sessions.

My Wednesday morning Art & Soul classes resume on the 15th January.

And if you haven’t yet done one, a vision board really helps to clarify your route and is a powerful goal seeking missile – see here for details on the workshops I’ll be facilitating in January and February.

Bon voyage

Michelle

Lifelight Astrology Update 9 December

Peace madiba

The big focus this week is undoubtedly on the loss of the Father of our nation, which has left rather a large gaping hole, not only in our country, but across the world. Although not very outwardly active in the past few years, Mandela continued to hold the energy of equanimity, tolerance, humility and forgiveness. Amongst the many things he showed us, by example, was his ability to forgive his oppressors and completely transform hatred into love. If he can do it, so can we!

Somehow we all knew that as long as he was here, things would be alright. For me he was like our tap root, which kept us stable and balanced and now that he has departed in physical form, we need to keep that vital root alive, lest we tumble into chaos.

Over the past few weeks  I’ve written quite a bit about Venus (the feminine  planet of love) being in Capricorn, which is about embracing the mature feminine,  as we take responsibility for every aspect of our lives.  The big news this week is that Mars (the masculine warrior planet) has just moved into Libra, the sign of peace, harmony, dialogue and co-operation. This is interestingly the sign it was in when Madiba was born and in the second half of his life he certainly embraced the higher vibration of the planet, as a Warrior for Peace.  Mars usually spends only a few weeks in a sign, but this time it will be in Libra until July 2014.

The message, to me is clear –  it follows on from my newsletter last week on” Love being what the world needs now” (see below). Each one of us needs to now move beyond talking and actively take responsibility for keeping Mandela’s legacy alive. This is relatively easy right now, as the hearts of people all over the world have been opened and there is an outpouring of love,  as we remember the man, his life and his words. However it will all die down after while, as it does and that’s when we need to step into the very big shoes our beloved leader has left behind.

These words, handed to a Deepak Chopra by a monk really resonate with me and show the way forward.

The most important time in your life is now

The most important person in your life is the one you’re looking at right now

The most important thing you can do in your life is what you are doing right now

The best way to prepare for the future is to be totally present now

Now is the moment that never ends.

Each one of us has a sphere of influence, where we can lead by example and raise the vibration of those around us. It might be with our children, our friends, in our work, our gym, our sport, inspiring others through social media, in meditation or creative circles or in our daily moment by moment interactions with the people who cross our paths. How would you treat the car guard who shows up each day and helps you carry your packages, if he were the most important person in you life in that moment?  How would the world change if we really started living like this?

How can you make a difference… today and every day? How can you help to fill those Mandela shoes? How can you nurture that tap root and help it to grow stronger? How can we all as a community uphold Mandela’s vision, his life’s work and the cause he was prepared to die for… freedom for all?  His words ring in my ears “Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great – you can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”  We are that generation and this is the time.

Martha Beck posted these words yesterday on Facebook “Once, leaving South Africa, I wondered, “Who will be the next Mandela?” And a voice in my heart said, “You must all be the next Mandela.” Well, the hero has gone home. It’s our turn. Let’s do it.

If this resonates with you, please share it with as many people as you can

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY UPDATE – 24th November 2013

arrowsMonday’s last quarter moon ushers in a week of finishing off what we began 3 weeks ago and reflecting on our next steps for a new month… a new vision.  Its not necessarily the best time to start new projects (that’s for next week at new moon). Rather, with the Sun having just entered Sagittarius, it’s a good opportunity to step back and get some perspective about the past few weeks. What have we learnt about ourselves, our significant others, our lives, the world? What’s working and what’s not? How can we do things differently?

Things should feel a bit lighter, as we slowly start to emerge from the subterranean depths of Scorpio,  but there’s unlikely to be a whole lot of clarity just yet. Actually, we might not feel very energetic, perhaps less focussed, a little foggy, jaded or just plain lazy.  There might be a rather loud and persistent voice in your head urging you to lighten up, laugh more, let your hair down or hit the road and head off into the sunset. If you can heed the voice and are able to get some time out, great! If, however, like most of us, your head is down and you’re still hard at it, be sure to set some time aside to pause… reconnect with yourself often…. Dream about the future and have some fun!

Next week’s Sagittarius new moon is all about expanding ourselves and our visions for the future. So for now, dust off your little  quiver of arrows,  straighten them out, sharpen them up and get ready to shoot  them off next week in the direction of your dreams.

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY NOVEMBER 2013

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY NOVEMBER 2013

Darum… darum…. darum…

The time has come all ye fellow humans to take off those rose coloured specs and replace them with a big old magnifying glass, a torch, some sturdy gumboots and a raincoat as we embark on a serious investigation… leaving no stone un-turned until we have unearthed the honest to God, pure, unbridled, unvarnished truth about ourselves and the role we are playing here on Planet Earth.

There’s SO much going down right now that I’ve roped in good ol Professor Clouseau, the Pink Panther and Venus in Sagittarius, to help us move through it with a sense of adventure, lightness and humour. If you’re too young to know who they are, ask Mr Google – he’ll come to your aide.

As we travel between the tunnel of two eclipses, most of us are experiencing some discomfort to put it mildly – Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, weary of the same old thing happening over and over again, or just plain out of sorts, its ok… you’re not alone and it’s all meant to be… really!

We are in the birth canal and are starting to feel labour pains before the birthing on the 3rd November, with the mother of all eclipses. Present in the delivery room will be the Sun and Moon, Saturn, Mercury Retrograde and the North Node – all in intense, investigative, deeply transformational, watery, emotional  Scorpio ( I did say you needed gumboots and a raincoat). Add the exact Uranus Pluto square to the mix and we have some pretty potent revolutionary energy right there.

As I see it, in plain English, this eclipse marks a potentially huge turning point, a breaking through of awareness, both personally and globally. It symbolises the death of old outworn patriarchal power structures, so that the new can be reborn into something more intelligent, evolved, balanced and connected. The seed that was planted in the sixties is now starting to germinate with the re-emergence of the feminine and the maturing of the masculine.

I said “potentially” because in order to experience or be a part of any transformation,  we have to show up and actively participate. What that means is that we need to take full ownership of being the change we want to see in the world and in order to do that, we first need to find out what needs changing, which is where Professor comes in. Herewith a handy Clouseau style guide into our very own personal thriller.

Question everything

Mount a serious no-holds-barred investigation into every aspect of your life. Of particular significance will be the areas where 11 degrees  Scorpio and Taurus lie.  That’s where you’ll find some potent clues and keys to open the doors of transformation. If you don’t know where that is or what I’m talking about, it might be time to have your chart done or updated.

Some examples of questions to ask:

    • What am I feeling in my body at any given moment?
    • Whose rules am I living by and are they serving me and anyone else?
    • Have my belief system or my values changed and how?
    • Do they need to?
    • What or who pulls me back, makes me feel shackled, heavy or small?
    • What or who makes me feel free, light and empowered?
    • Where am I stuck?
    • What can I let go of – be it false beliefs, negative reactions, people or clutter
    • If I died tomorrow, what would I regret?
    • What do I need help with and who can I ask?
    • What can I do differently, today to help myself and our planet?
    • How can I serve or nurture others?
    • How can I lift my vibration?

It is no mistake that you are here at this moment in time and it is never too late. My mom has reached the ripe old age of 90 and I can honestly say that as frail as she is physically, she has never been stronger emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Far from feeling unimportant she sees herself as performing an important role in sending light and spreading kindness to others. You too, are a unique and vital thread in the tapestry of life and everything you say and do does make a difference!

Look for clues

    • Surveillance – keep watch of how other people (partners, bosses, friends, children and authority figures, drivers, call centre staff etc)  trigger reactions in you. Notice them, and then turn the spotlight onto yourself and ask where in your life you do exactly the same thing. Even if you can’t see it at first, shine it around a bit and you’re sure to find something.  Eg:  “Bloggs is just so lazy, it’s driving me crazy” – Immediately… there and then, ask yourself where in your life you drive yourself crazy by being lazy. Or, “The Government / powers-that-be need to wake up and sort things out” – where do I need to wake up and sort things out? You get the drift…When you find something, see if you can chuckle at yourself, rather than beat yourself up.
    • Be on the lookout for sensations in your body – these can be anything from feeling like a horse has kicked you in the solar plexus, to tears welling up in your eyes when something has touched you deeply, to delicious goose bumps when you  know you’ve stumbled upon grace or unearthed a truth.
    • Watch for synchronicities – even if they seem irrelevant. I’ll give you an example of a recent one of mine (shared only days later by one of my soul sisters)  – I jumped into my car the other day and it was as dead as a dodo… nada… not even a glimmer of life. After contemplating my situation for a few minutes, I got out the car and roped some unsuspecting security guys into giving  me a push and she started. I drove to the closest garage, where they told me that my battery was kaput and kindly lent me one until they could get a replacement. This little event held such lessons for me. First of all, my own internal battery has been feeling flat lately and secondly I realised I need to sometimes ask for help.  I’ve also had a whole lot of un with blocked drains and flooded driveways in the past while, which have served to provide more clues as to what’s out of whack.  Moments after I had the pipes cleared, my energy lifted… go figure!

Take action

This is the time for us to connect with our innate wisdom (feminine) so that we can be guided how to actively and maturely participate (masculine) in transformation of ourselves and our planet.  It’s so important that during this time of confusion and fear, we don’t freeze like deer in the headlights, but rather dive in and do what needs to be done to change what needs to be changed.

Check out Russel Brand’s recent interview on.  You might not agree with him or even like him and he might not know all the answers, but he’s being a catalyst and is prompting us to ask questions we might not normally ask, which is what Scorpio is all about.

We’re being challenged to be revolutionary, to step beyond our comfort zones, take complete responsibility for our lives, for the impact we have on planet earth, for how we treat others, our thoughts, our reactions, the energy we project into the world… and to take it up a notch, to a new level of maturity. Basically we need to grow up, step beyond self doubt and fear and take action. Imagine if we lived our lives afraid of nothing, viewing every thing that happens in our world as an opportunity to change and grow… Imagine if, when in the soul state, you selected each and every person and situation in your life and elected to live during these times in order to help your soul evolve. With that viewpoint, there can be no blame and no victim-hood. The only thing is the question – how am I growing from this or what is it teaching me?

“Transformation happens when you dare to be awakened to greater heights. When you stay open, no matter what. letting each experience, especially the tough ones, strengthen you and add depth and wisdom” Oprah.

In the days leading up the eclipse, we have one of the best opportunities this year to see to our personal plumbing, by releasing whatever toxic waste or clutter we don’t need or doesn’t serve us– physically and metaphorically. Use Mercury Retrograde to reflect on any disempowering  false core beliefs, fears, habitual behaviours, and resentments that are holding you back and start releasing them…. one by one. Writing them down and burning them would be a powerful ritual to perform just before the eclipse. And then on the 3rd, as the moon starts to wax, use your newly found awareness to set new, positive steps in motion.

I still have a few places left on THE DIVINE ROMANCE workshop on the 2nd and 3rd, where we will be working with all of this.

Continuing the theme of investigation into December, I will be running a “REFLECTIONS 2013” workshop, where we’ll review the road we’ve travelled in 2013, before we go hurtling into 2014. We’ll be creating a Gratitude Collage, which is a wonderful process.

On the subject of Gratitude, if you haven’t already, please join my 26 DAYS OF GRATITUDE of Gratitude on Facebook. We’re having such fun and raising vibrations at the same time. This is one way that you can make a difference.

I leave you with some wisdom from Socrates, who was never known to mince his words. “The unexamined life is not worth living”

Please share this with anybody you feel might benefit from reading it.

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY OCTOBER 2013

The Divine Romance

By Michelle McClunan

fiberdance

As usual, the Universe has been conspiring to provide me with exactly the material I need for October’s newsletter.  After a long, dry winter in Natal, I was feeling a little arid myself, tired, cranky and creatively somewhat stuck. So, I made a decision to head to Knysna for a short holiday with one of my oldest and dearest friends, on the beautiful farm she stays on. My head was shrieking at me… stay at home and “do, do, do”… but for once, I opted to listen to my heart and just  “be, be, be”.
One week later, after lots of hearty meals, afternoon snoozes, chats around cozy log fires, art making, walks in nature, a paddle down the Goukamma river, communing with donkeys, cats, dogs and other assorted flying, walking, buzzing beings, we’re both slowly starting to sense a quickening … a rustle of energy here… a flutter of excitement there… the first flush of enthusiasm… as the slightly submerged life spark slowly starts to ignite the fire of passion that resides deep within us… a little like falling in love actually. By slowing down, nurturing ourselves and allowing ourselves to “be”,  we’ve been strengthening our inner female; softening and becoming more receptive, so that she can provide her inner male with a warm, fertile place to land, penetrate and light the spark of new birth.  We’ve started to accept the differences and needs of our masculine and our feminine and to integrate the two.  Jung called this individuation, the alchemical transformation process of the personality into spiritual gold. And that is exactly what the astrology for the end of September and much of October is all about (see what I mean about the Universe conspiring?).  Mars in Leo (Driven, active, creative male energy) is at loggerheads with Venus in Scorpio (Passionate, intense, transformative female energy).  The Sun in Libra steps in to help bring about peace, harmony and balance through integration.  The New moon in Libra on 5th and the Lunar Eclipse in Aries on the 19th further reinforce the theme. The Uranus Pluto square becomes exact again at the end of October, so we will need to be as integrated and balanced as possible, to stay centred amidst ongoing personal and global change.
When the masculine and feminine within us is out of balance, you can bet your bottom Zimbabwean dollar that we’re going to project the lack of harmony we feel onto others, which can only lead to tension, aggression and conflict.  This is basically what’s happening in Western Society, which to a large degree, praises male energy and quashes the feminine. When last did someone ask you how you were really feeling on the inside? Usually the first thing we ask is what you’ve been “up” to, how much you’ve achieved and what you’ve been doing ‘out there in the world’.  And so, in an attempt to be seen in the eyes of the world as successful, we favour and strengthen the masculine and downplay the feminine. The problem is, whatever we’re oppressing, rejecting, judging or withholding has to have an effect on the opposite. Hard as we might try to keep them apart, the masculine and feminine within us can never be separated – they are woven into the very fabric that is us.Let’s look at the archetypal male and female qualities that are found within us all, so we can get an idea of what might need some tweaking. Give whatever is more active in your life 1 point and then add up either column to see which one is more dominant at the moment.

If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, brittle, filled to the brim with busyness, rational ideas, lists and strategies, but have difficulty in manifesting them into anything tangible, your inner male is probably running the show.If you’re feeling hyper emotional, heavy, lethargic, confused, stagnant or unable to move forward, your inner female is wearing the pants. What’s probably needed is a good dose of active, animating male energy to hoof her out of her sludge.
Here’s an example of how the dance can play out. We feel a pain, ache or discomfort. An awareness arises within us that we need to pause, nurture, turn inward, slow down and relax. Society and survival say “No way Jose – keep trucking – what about the rent?”  So we march on like true little soldiers… firing off a relentless stream of busy little idea sperms into the world.  If we can just push a little harder, succeed a little more, be more disciplined, more focused, then we’ll feel secure and things will be just dandy.  In the war we wage on the world, the feminine side of us gets relegated to the sidelines like ugly floral wallpaper as we continue to climb our ‘oh so important’ mountains.
And then suddenly, the earth shifts and we feel ourselves slipping … an accident, illness, retrenchment, break-up or some situation arises that more or less brings us to our knees.  We have no choice.  We stop because we have to… our thirsty souls have designed it that way.  We spend time being, nurturing, replenishing, listening, renewing and softening, so that when that little sperm cell comes a’cruisin’, it finds a soft fertile place to land. And then, it’s a lot like a love story… that first flush of romance when we feel special and cherished, we start to remember the things we once loved about ourselves; sparkling new ideas start to appear as if out of a fog; the life spark that we thought may have been lost forever starts to ignite. We start to feel capable, grounded, confident, ready to commit to this new unconditionally loving Divine Romance and dance the dance of life.
What’s the status of your inner marriage? Does your male have a nurturing place to come home to?  Do you tell each other how much you love each other or snipe at each other?  Do you appreciate your differences and love each other anyway, like you did in the beginning?  Do you still cherish you?  Are you faithful to you?  Do you buy you flowers, write you love letters, stick to the vows you make to yourself?  Is your marriage bed sacred or do you allow creepy characters to threaten its sanctity?  What if you were to fall in love with all of you again and commit to yourself in Holy Matrimony?
