Mercury Retrograde/ Summer Solstice

summer solstice.png

Here’s a quick  heads up, as we scurry or scuffle towards the end of the year. Mercury in Capricorn turns retrograde on the 20th December until the 9th January. Being the planet of communication, it can and often does coincide with  disturbances or breakdowns in all forms of communication and conveyance. SO, even if it feels like you don’t have the time,  take a few moments to back up your ALL your data – across all your devices. Check your travel bookings and allow for extra time to get wherever you’re going. Check documents before you sign them and take ten deep breaths before you react verbally – to anything. Mercury is travelling alongside Pluto right now, which could make for some fairly intense interactions!

Apart from the irritating stuff, at a deeper level, we are all being given an opportunity to carefully consider, assess (Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn)  and transform ((Pluto) the way we think and communicate.

Over the next few weeks, see if you can  unplug from the continual influx of information whenever you can and re-flect on the quality of your thoughts. Ask whether the story you’re telling about yourself and your world is true. If not, set the intention to ditch some of the old mental garbage and start re-designing and re-framing your thoughts.

Down south, we have the Summer Solstice on the 21st December which is the longest day of the year, after which, the days start to get shorter.

The Solstice is always significant and powerful and is the perfect time to  release the old and dream in  the new – before we get carried away with Christmas and New Year festivities. If you haven’t yet, take a few moments (that’s really all it takes) to reflect back on the last 12 months (See my last blog) . Recognise  the wins,  losses,  challenges and  victories, acknowledging every single thing as integral to your journey.

A lovely ritual you can do at the solstice, is to write down anything you want to release from the year and surrender it into a candle flame or a bonfire. Remember that fire transmutes and transforms, changing what was into something else.

Then – write down your hopes and wishes for the next year onto another piece of paper. Light it and watch as the paper transforms to smoke, carrying your intentions out into the Universe.

I’ll be running two Vision board workshops in January to get those intentions working even more. Vision boards really work folks. See below for details or if you don’t receive my newsletter, email me on michellemcclunan@gmail.com

Thank you all for reading my ramblings and for those of you who have had readings done, attended my workshops and classes or in some way, been part of my 2016, I’m filled with appreciation and gratitude for the richness you’ve added to my life.

May you all have a stunning Solstice, a blessed Christmas and Fantastic New Year !

Love

Lifelight Astrology 13th December 16

untitled

As the end of yet another  year draws to a close and we find ourselves immersed in the silly season,  let’s take a few moments to consider the year and all it held, before we go scuttling off on another journey around that golden sun of ours.

The full moon in the early hours of the morning on 14th December  in Gemini, provides just such an opportunity. This is normally a  light-hearted, busy,  communicative, optimistic full moon – much like this time of the year is on the surface, with all the bells and gifts and  fairy lights and  Christmas cheer. But this year, Saturn is joining the party and adding a dose of seriousness to the mix . I do think its good to bear in mind that for many people, who might be experiencing loss, illness or struggle,  this can be the hardest and loneliest time of the year. In the next few weeks, as we count down to the end of the year, not only is Saturn travelling close to the Sun, but Mercury, the planet of communication is in Capricorn (the sign ruled by Saturn). The communicator will go retrograde on the 21st  and is hanging out with Pluto, the plumber of the Zodiac.

This can play out in a number of different ways.

Old Chronos (Saturn) can be a real party pooper, a finger-wagging, stern,  parental voice, taking up residence in our heads. He can tell us, in no uncertain terms what we’ve done wrong, how little we’ve achieved, where we’re failing in our lives  and what losers we are.

Or, he can be more of a kind-hearted parent, who has our best interests at heart and helps us to enter into a dialogue with ourselves and others,  to assess and COMPLETE the year, with a good solid dose of maturity, sprinkled with tenderness.

I’m seeing this truth seeking, communicative full moon and the weeks leading up to the new moon, on the 29th December, as a brilliant time to do this. We are being presented with just the right energy to GENTLY reassess the year,  look at the blessings, the challenges, the wins and the losses and to excavate the  GOLD!

Here are some questions that might help get you started:

  • What changed for you this year?
  • Describe  your challenges
  • Describe your wins
  • What do feel you accomplished?
  • What do you feel you didn’t accomplish?
  • Who were the most important people in your life this year?
  • Was there anybody new who arrived in your life?
  • Was there anybody who left your life?
  • Describe the sadnesses
  • Describe the joys
  • What have you  discovered about yourself this year?
  • If you could sum 2017 up in one word, what would it be?

Use these questions as a guideline, but add to them. If you like, play with images, or collages, or doodles.

As the moon wanes for the next few weeks, clear, declutter and let go of whatever you don’t need, so you can start afresh in 2017.

I still have a a couple of places left on my WRAP IT UP workshops this  Saturday or Sunday and have dates lined up for the VISION BOARD WORKSHOPS in JANUARY. Check out my newsletter or email me for details. .

If you haven’t yet done so, you might want to book an astrology session for the New Year to see what’s in store astrologically for you in 2017.

In life and light and kindness

What IF?

What IF?

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 28th NOVEMBER 2016

Well, we’ve finally gurgled our way through the raging rivers of Scorpio… whew…!  Now now hopefully we can put our heads up and take a nice big expansive breath of fresh air with the New Moon in Sagittarius on  29th November.  The archer fires his invigorating arrows and calls us to lighten up a little.

I’ve been musing about this New moon and what I’m going to write for a few days now  and I just couldn’t  bring myself to go into anything serious. I have no desire to write about slowing down, being healthy, connecting with our emotions, going deep, transforming, transmuting… or saving the planet.

Perhaps it’s because this new moon is activating my Sagittarian moon (which has been a little soggy of late) , or maybe it’s due to the heaviness and seriousness  that has surrounded us for the past few months. Or it could be because I’m just a little soul tired, if not a tad jaded… Its probably a combination of all three.

Whatever the reason, today I’m going to focus on the largess, the generosity, the expansion, the truth of  Jupiter…. the ruler of this new moon.

When I think of Jupiter, I think of the laughing Buddha, I think of breaking bread with friends at a table laden with delicious food, flowers and wine, jesters, clowns, magic, travelling to exciting new places, being outrageous, feeling the wind in your hair, diving into an ocean, riding a horse in the countryside,  turning up the music and dancing as if  nobody’s watching,  relishing the smell of freshly baked bread, newly ground coffee, picking some flowers, biting into a strawberry, soaking in a bath filled with bubbles  – I think of LIVING, growing and expanding.

A  while ago I wrote in my journal…” What if…. there is nothing else I have to achieve… nobody I have to please, nothing I have to do any better or any more perfectly… What if… I was complete right now… if I could accept and embrace myself as I am … this moment?”

What if?

When I read those words, I feel expansive. I feel relieved. I feel light. I feel free.

The reality is that when we do manage to let go of the need to control and scheme and analyse, even for short periods, we actually rewire our brains and redesign our physiology. So …when we’re having fun or relaxing, we’re actually healing ourselves and our lives.

I remember listening to a talk I listened to by Deepak Chopra, where he said that when you’re in ecstasy, you create millions of dollars of Interluken 2, which cures dire diseases like Cancer!

When last did you experience ecstasy … or joy… or something close to it?

How can you connect with that again?

So… how about it?

What if, this week and this month, you allowed yourself to embrace the expansive playful  child-like you (even for short periods)  and  released yourself from the prison of  responsibilities, concerns and burdens occasionally?  What if you embraced your quirky side? What if you bestowed upon yourself the luxury of spending some time doing the things or having the experiences that gave you a sense of freedom and joy?

This is my invitation to you this  month – and if it works, maybe for EVER.

I’d love you to share the fun adventures you have, big and small with me on my Facebook page. Let’s inspire each other.

I’m running my Wrap it up Workshop on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of December, so be sure not to miss the opportunity of celebrating and completing the year. If you’re not on my Newsletter list, email me for details.

Full Moon in Gemini 25/26 November 2015

Moon and children

As we hurtle at breakneck speed towards the end of yet another year, it’s a good idea to take a few minutes to check in with what the planets are up to. It’s no coincidence that Thanksgiving falls on the Gemini full moon this year (25th /26th November – just after midnight if you live in South Africa). For me, this brings the theme of Gratitude into the light, a quality which I think will get us through the next few weeks, as there are some rather challenging alignments around.

The reason this newsletter is going out at the last minute is that I’ve been and still am, feeling this tricky energy rather acutely…  For me, it’s a bit like wading through thick slimy mud or quicksand, but here goes. ….Please forgive me if this is all over the place, but  I’m going to explain how I’m feeling and intuiting what’s going on, rather than relying on any external information.

Interestingly this Full moon is encouraging us to do just that. She is in  busy, restless, communicative, information/ activity seeking Gemini… opposite the Sun in optimistic, expansive, truth seeking Sagittarius. Normally that would be simple enough –  suggesting that we filter through all the information “out there” and ask whether it is true and relevant to us personally, before we accept it as gospel or share it with all in sundry. The Gemini/Sagittarius axis urges us to connect with the intuitive point of wisdom that lies between information (Gemini) and knowledge (Sagittarius).

In some respects, with the instant access we have to information these days,  we are also forgetting how to work through problems and issues ourselves, because there is always some sort of a solution  or answer courtesy of Mr Google.  Although it’s amazing and incredible to have this technology, it’s also dumbing us down a bit, if you think about it.  In years gone by, when faced with a problem or a challenge, we often had no option other than to slow down and figure it out or feel it out for ourselves. By going through something step by step, we gain experience, develop our intuition,  and turn information into knowledge , the way I see it. When we hurry towards the end point, we prevent that from happening.

Now that’s where I would normally leave it, but there’s more to this particular full moon than that. That weighty old geyser Saturn has pulled into the party, joining the Sun and Mercury. With this alignment, the usually optimistic Sagittarian sun has sort of  disappeared  behind a cloud for a while. The fiery one wants to expand and grow and think big and send good  positive energy (and newsletters) into the Universe, but Saturn is sitting on his shoulder whispering… “But should you….? What if it doesn’t work… What if you can’t do it…. What if you fail…What if other people don’t like it … or you?

And that’s not all…there’s more… (that sounds like one of those hard selling ads of the 90’s 🙂  – This full moon also opens the curtain on a slow square dance between Saturn and Neptune, which will continue on and off until September 2016.

Whenever the outer planets get into an uncomfortable alignment, it signifies a big paradigm shift. The last one was the Uranus Pluto square  from 2012 to 2015 and was seen by many to signify a Shift in Consciousness . This one is taking the shift to a deeper level.

So what’s being asked of us now?

Well, Saturn and Neptune could not be more different. Saturn represents form, structure, boundaries, the old guard, tradition, goals and achievement. Neptune represents dreams, imagination, escape, illusions, addiction, connection, formlessness, oneness and our connection to the Divine.

When these two giants are at odds, like they are now, some of us might find ourselves feeling depressed, with old hurts, guilts, resentments or even old health conditions rising up from nowhere. Or we might feel lethargic, unwell or as if there  are major obstacles standing between us and our dreams. We may also find ourselves swinging from one extreme to another.  One minute we’re all fired up about achieving what we want to achieve, heading towards our goals in a mature, structured way… and the next, we feel burdened and saddened by the goings-on in the world, overwhelmed by everything and all we want to do is to lie in a hammock, dreaming and imagining a better life, or to zone out from reality completely..?

So what do we do with that?

Well, as I said, I’m still making my through this particular quagmire, but the idea with all squares and oppositions is for us to find the middle ground. We need to give both energies attention – invite Saturn in to provide us with enough structure, but not too much that our light is quelled  and allow Neptune to lighten the load a bit,  with some time out, dreaming, rest, creativity and compassion.

If you do find yourself spiralling downward in the next few weeks, I would suggest starting a Gratitude practice. I’m going to start a 30 day Gratitude challenge tomorrow on Face book – join us there.

Take a few minutes, sit quietly and connect with every single thing that you are grateful for. From the breath that keeps you alive, to your senses, your limbs, your heart, your bed… This will also help to lift your vibration out of the mud, shift your paradigm, and re-frame your experience should you slip into victim-hood and isolation – another theme song of Neptune Saturn.  I still have some space in my Taking stock / Gratitude workshops in December – a great way to complete the year. See below or email me for details.

In the next day or too, be sure to  schedule some time (Saturn) to connect to yourself and all that is (Neptune.) If you are in a quandary about something, ask the question, tune into your body and get a sense of what feels expansive and what feels restrictive. .. allow answers to surface, rather than chasing them down and when they do, take the first step, and then another and another….

And through it all, make sure you love and accept yourself , imperfections and all!  To demonstrate that, I’m going to hit send on this newsletter, even though it’s far from perfect!

Life and Light to you
