Sag moon

On Saturday 21st May we have the first of two full moons in Sagittarius. This one is nose-to-nose with the warrior planet Mars, at 1 degree of Sagittarius. The first and last degrees of signs always intensify the qualities of the planets in question, and this one puts a sword-like laser spotlight on communication and truth.  Full moons are always pretty intense anyway, as whatever  has been drifting along in the unconscious, is brought into the light. The combination of energies  this full moon could create some wonderful exciting sparks in communications and ideas…  or a raging inferno… depending on how we respond in the moment.

First of all, Mars… masculine, driven, assertive, passionate, impulsive and potentially aggressive, is still retrograde and because he’s a forward-moving type of chap, it’s not something he’s too fond of. Actually he can get rather edgy, frustrated, agitated or flat-out pissed off , when things don’t move as fast as they should, especially in the area of communications. Being in Sagittarius, there can also be impatience and  intolerance with people who don’t “get” things as quickly as we’d like them to, or say what we want them to say.  Fortunately, Mercury starts turning direct on the 21st, so that should  thankfully ease things a bit.

Back to the full moon – Gemini gathers information and knowledge, Sagittarius fires truth seeking missile arrows everywhere he goes.  The only thing is, the archer can be rather tactless at times, especially when he’s hanging out with warring Mars.

We all just need to be aware that our truth is not necessarily anybody else’s and to be cautious of wielding the sword of “our” truth, to all in sundry!

There is sure to be a LOT of noise and chattering going on inside and outside of our heads this full moon and we really need to filter it, before we react verbally or in writing.

If you feel triggered, try making some space for the  emotions as they arise, but don’t go into the story of them. For example: Somebody says or does  something and you suddenly feel angry/ sad/ hurt/ alone/ angry.  The knee-jerk reaction, courtesy of the Mars/ Moon conjunction is to project it onto the other person. Instead, allow yourself to notice the emotion and  let it just be there for a while,  without trying to change it. When your mind starts zooting down a myriad of rabbit holes, bring it back gently to the present moment. Emotions that are ignored or repressed will be the ones that cause the explosions or implosions this full moon.

On the days leading up to, and those directly following the 21st,  we could all do with taking 10 or 20 breaths before we blurt anything and this includes the words we say to ourselves.

Then ask…

...Is what I’m about to say absolutely true for me and for this person?

Is it necessary?

Is it kind?

In every moment we have the choice of going to war or not. Let’s not!

I still have some space on my Power Animal workshop this Saturday 21st – on Full Moon!   There are also  two exciting workshops in June. Check them out in the newsletter or email me for details

Lifelight Astrology – December 2014

By Michelle McClunan

Well, here we are, heading for the home stretch of 2014, which has been a blurringly quick, busy, somewhat challenging year for many of us. It’s certainly  been a bit of a whopper for me, but the blessings and learnings have been immense too!  Dark and Light, Pain and Liberation, Sadness and Joy – the polarities or life!

When I look at the Astrology for December, it’s clear that this is a month filled to the brim with more of the same paradoxes, contrasts and perhaps challenges, as well as great opportunities to shift, heal and grow.

In astrology we have these pesky little aspects called squares, which occur when two planets are locked into a stressful ninety degree angle with one other – a lot like being confined in a room, with someone whom we have nothing in common with, or seriously don’t like… for an extended period of time.  With nowhere to run, we are pushed to find the commonalities between us and to reach a level of acceptance.  This is exactly what squares do – they aren’t designed to just give us a hard time. They’re there to help us  s t r e t c h and grow, tiresome as that might be sometimes.

Many of us may find ourselves facing some squares over the Festive Season, which is when we get to spend more time than usual with family, extended family, partners,  in-laws, step relations and the like. This is generally guaranteed to bring to the surface all sorts of issues, which we thought our adult selves had dealt with and packed neatly away. As they say, if you think you’re enlightened, spend a weekend with your family!

Without going into too much complicated Astrology, we essentially have two major squares between slower moving planets that are being activated this month.

The good old Uranus Pluto square, which I’ve written about a lot in past, becomes exact for the 6th time since 2012. The last time it will happen will be in March 2015 –  glory be!

Briefly, Pluto, the agent of death, rebirth and regeneration (transformation) is in patriarchal conservative Capricorn, which represents control, tradition, the old guard, governments, corporate structures etc.  Revolutionary Uranus is in fiery, impulsive, aggressive Aries, defender of the peoples’ rights. What this means for the planet is essentially a revolution, where “the people” fight the establishment. It also has a habit of bringing deep dark secrets and compulsions  (Pluto) out of hiding and into the light – largely through the media (Uranus) The latest sex scandal with Bill Cosby is just one example. The women who he allegedly abused, are risking their reputations after decades and spilling the beans to the media, about the man who was a traditional father figure to so many, for so long. This is a literal example of Uranus Pluto at work.

What it means for us personally is that it’s yet another opportunity to connect with whatever is lurking in the shadows of our own psyches, bring it up to the surface, pick out the gems and ditch the rest.  As a fellow coach said the other day, “Decide what’s not serving you, kiss it goodbye and let it go”.

It’s a time for questioning the old guard that resides within us and ushering in the new. All those old hackneyed beliefs and judgements about everything that we’ve held for so long – are they even valid and how are they serving us?. It’s also about asking where and how we are trying to control the world around us and how that’s   working.

Anxiety levels about our country, our world and our planet are running high, as everywhere you go, people are talking about the crime, the injustice, the unfairness, the ineptitude, the insecurity.  Although most of us can relate to it in some way, we need to ask ourselves whether it serves us to talk about it all the time or to engage with people who do.

Is it changing anything or just bringing our personal and collective vibrations to their knees?  It’s one thing if there’s something we can actually do to change a situation, but if there isn’t, our energy is better employed at addressing what we can change about our own lives or attitudes For me, the quickest way to change my attitude, is to enter into a state of gratitude. I was given such a wonderful example by a friend the other day, who, whilst  driving to class, ran through her body and expressed gratitude for each part of it. This instantly lifted her vibration and her spirits. Every single one of us can do that, any time we choose to.

We also have the choice, every minute of every day, as to whether we are going to enter into the downward spiral of judgement and criticism or not.

The other square that’s happening involves the giants, Jupiter and Saturn. These two polar opposites are currently engaged in an interesting kick boxing match. Where Saturn is about old knowledge, maturity, tradition, categorising, control, judgement, limitation, contraction,  duty, conservative outlooks and responsibility, Jupiter is about liberation, expansion, broader perspectives,  new knowledge and higher learning.

This square asks us to consider, in any given moment, whether something is contracting or expanding us and then make our choices from there.

As we hurtle towards the finishing line of 2014, Saturn and Jupiter advise us to take a bit of time out, to do a stock-take and ask ourselves some questions that will reveal what we’ve learnt this year.

I’m running one workshop on the 13th December, where we will explore this theme as a small group, through visualisation, reflection, and art. Using a combination of painting, words and imagery, we will tell our 2014 story in a GRATITUDE COLLAGE.  I still have a couple of places available, so please email me for more details.  michvr@intekom.co.za

An unexamined life is not worth living” – Socrates

Here are some of questions to ask yourself before year end – the Gemini full moon on  6th December would be a great time to do it.

  •  What would you like to kiss goodbye to, along with 2014?
  •  What were the things or who were the people that challenged you and contributed to your growth in  2015?
  •  What are you grateful for, right now?
  •  What new truths have you learnt this year and how will you embrace them and expand them further in the year to come?’
  •  If you made one lifestyle change for your mental, physical, spiritual, emotional health in 2015, what would it be?

When I did this recently with a bunch of life coaches (thanks to you all), the clearest thing that came up for me was the word “Surrender”. Much of what has happened in my life this year, has been largely out of my control and has more or less pushed me into a place of acceptance. While I was mulling this over yesterday, the word middle ground kept on coming up.  I looked up some synonyms for the word –  golden mean, centre, happy medium, neutral territory, interface – all of which resonated hugely.

For me, taking the middle ground seems to be one of best ways to navigate the extremes and embrace the changes that are happening at any given time. It means not judging whether something is good or bad, but rather staying neutral.

Words like “neutrality” and  “surrender”  get a bit of a bad rap, unfortunately, as they’re often seen as boring or weak or jelly fishy. That’s certainly how I used to perceive them. However, more and more I’m realising, that when things feel overwhelming, if I can remember to stop, lean back, step away, breathe deeply, soften and unclench my jaw and my fists, I start entering into a place of neutrality and can actually feel my heart softening. The neutral place is where the Divine resides.

It’s the still point in the storm, where we can connect with the higher part of ourselves,  see the situation from a broader perspective and open the way for magical, infinite insights and possibilities. I’ve noticed when I do loosen (not let go of) the reigns for a while, Lo and Behold, things actually have a way of wobbling into place all by themselves, without my controlled intervention…fancy that!

Another tool that helps us find the middle ground is to find a symbol or an image that re-aligns us.  It might be the centre point of a spiral or the place of meeting in an infinity symbol or the dot in the middle of a circle (the symbol for the Sun) or something else that resonates for you. You could imagine gathering your energy inwards, towards a core centre line, or walking to the centre of a labyrinthe or  bringing a wildly swinging pendulum to the quiet, stillpoint close to the ground.

Whenever you need to re-align yourself – call your image up in your imagination, take a few deep breaths, relax, soften, run through your 5 senses and then consider 3 things that you are grateful for. Et Voila – you will be back in your centre – back in the middle ground. The more we do that, the more fertile that middle ground will become and the easier it will be to go there.

The grass is not greener on the other side, its greener where you water it.

Thank you to all my valued friends, clients, colleagues and readers of my ramblings, for being such a vital and cherished part of my life. You are my teachers and my  green grass.

With love

Lifelight Astrology December 2013

The world needs loveThis is one power packed month folks! As Sagittarius shoots his fiery arrows heavenward, we are all being prompted to follow his lead……. get out of our boxes, expand our paradigms,  look above our egos, personal stories and dramas and to become part of a new earth, a new vision, a new consciousness.

I don’t think any of us can ignore the incredible amount of evidence that we are indeed experiencing a shift in consciousness, and that our reality as we know it, is changing…. and quickly too. You and I, right now, have an important job to do….. and Venus, the planet of Love clearly tells us what it is.

On the solstice later this month, she turns retrograde until the end of January, which means that she will spend about 4 months in the sign of Capricorn.  The message is so clear – its time that we embrace the mature, authentic feminine and really experience love at its deepest level. I’m not talking about romantic “chocolates and roses” type love (although there’s nothing wrong with that), but rather the pure spark of divine love that exists in each of us… Love as THE frequency of the Universe, of God.

I’m pretty sure this is what all the greatest teachers have been trying to tell us for millennia.

“Love one another” – Jesus Christ

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your own heart” Carl Jung

“When we feel love and kindness towards others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us to develop inner happiness and peace”– Dalai Lama

“Reason is powerless in the expression of love” – Rumi

“Eventually you come to understand that love heals everything and love is all there is” – Gary Zukav

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love andaffection”. Buddha

Ask any question – and just see … if love might just be the answer.

If you have any doubt, try it out (hah that rhymes!). If you have a conflict with someone, instead of lashing out and reacting in anger, try acting in love and see what happens. If you think you can’t do something, feel stuck, useless, desperate, sad or confused, see what happens when you go into stillness, connect to your heart and send yourself love… because it always starts with loving and accepting ourselves.

If you find that the answers which come to you are judgmental, angry, guilt-ridden or critical, they are coming from your mind, not your heart. After all, what are anger, sadness and pain but the soul’s desire for love? What if, this month, when we start thinking resentful thoughts or talking negatively about somebody or something, we just stop – there and then… in that moment and focus on something more empowering, more uplifting, more loving.

We don’t even have to look for love, because it’s always there and it’s our natural vibration.  All we have to do is tune into it… be receptive to it.  It’s much like receiving the frequency of light through our retinas when we open our eyes.  To access the frequency of Love, we need to open our hearts and immediately, our vibration increases and harmonises with the Universal rhythm. When we do that, not only does our own spiritual frequency rise, but we also help to heal the planet. On the flip side, when we live entirely from the egoism mind, we vibrate in a way that is counter to the Universal rhythm and actually do more damage – no wander Mother Earth is in the state she’s in.

There is so much we can do to connect to our hearts and raise our vibration -quiet our minds, spend time in nature, listen to beautiful music, play with children, meditate, give and receive energy healing, dance, sing, hug another human being, do a random act of kindness, make art, stroke an animal, forgive everybody, be grateful for everything… each of us know what takes us into our heart space and we need to do it …every day.

The one choice we all have in these challenging, somewhat difficult times, is how we deal with and react to every single thing that happens in our lives. If we continually, minute by minute, take responsibility for making less ego based choices and more heart based ones, I believe we are participating and helping to precipitate great change.

Both the New moon on the 3rd  December and the Full moon on the 17th  have  strong Sagittarian themes, so its all  about breaking out of our comfort zones, stepping out of our old paradigms of conditioned beliefs and reaching for our own authentic truth, raising our consciousness and understanding that Love is the most powerful force in the Universe. As we step into love, gratitude and acceptance, we start to free our hearts and minds and the rest of our lives and those of others follow suit.

This is month to let go of anything that makes us feel stagnant or small and embrace that which grows us,  s t r e t c h e s   u s   and raises our vibration.

I still have some places left on my Gratitude workshops on the 7th, 13th and 14th December, where we will do exactly that.   Come and join us for a day of good vibrations! Read more

I posted a link to this video a few years back, by Kiesha, Little Grandmother – she talks more about the subject of love and it’s really worth the watch.  Part one  ;  Part two

This is a good time of the year to have an astrology reading or an update. We will wrap up the past year and see where you’re headed in 2014. I will  be around for December and January for consultations –  person to person in Durban and on Skype if you live elsewhere.

For those of you who have not yet liked my Facebook page, we’d love you to join our online community. Check it out here

As we head towards the end of the year, I’d like to thank all my friends, clients and colleagues for the important part you have played in my life this year. I would also like to thank you for reading my ramblings. May you have a beautiful, love filled festive season.

In Life and Light

arrowsMonday’s last quarter moon ushers in a week of finishing off what we began 3 weeks ago and reflecting on our next steps for a new month… a new vision.  Its not necessarily the best time to start new projects (that’s for next week at new moon). Rather, with the Sun having just entered Sagittarius, it’s a good opportunity to step back and get some perspective about the past few weeks. What have we learnt about ourselves, our significant others, our lives, the world? What’s working and what’s not? How can we do things differently?

Things should feel a bit lighter, as we slowly start to emerge from the subterranean depths of Scorpio,  but there’s unlikely to be a whole lot of clarity just yet. Actually, we might not feel very energetic, perhaps less focussed, a little foggy, jaded or just plain lazy.  There might be a rather loud and persistent voice in your head urging you to lighten up, laugh more, let your hair down or hit the road and head off into the sunset. If you can heed the voice and are able to get some time out, great! If, however, like most of us, your head is down and you’re still hard at it, be sure to set some time aside to pause… reconnect with yourself often…. Dream about the future and have some fun!

Next week’s Sagittarius new moon is all about expanding ourselves and our visions for the future. So for now, dust off your little  quiver of arrows,  straighten them out, sharpen them up and get ready to shoot  them off next week in the direction of your dreams.
