New Moon Virgo – The Trap of Perfectionism
We kick off the next few weeks with a New Moon on 20th September in Virgo, along with Mars, Venus and Mercury. That’s a whole lot of Virgo Energy, so how best can we work with it?
New moon in Virgo is a great time to plant seeds for a healthier, more organised life.
- Discern what you need and what you don’t
- Clear out the clutter
- Strategise a healthy, practical way forward
Chiron and Saturn are involved, so perfectionism and criticism are highly likely to appear.
Can you allow yourself to move forward on something, despite the fear that it might not be as perfect as you’d like or that you might be criticised for it?
Are you ready to let go of some of your perfectionism and self criticism, to allow what is inside you to emerge?
If you bring forth what is within you , what is within you will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what is within you will destroy you. Gospel of Thomas
What is it within you that you would like to bring forth?
I am doing my best to find my way out of my own Trap of Perfectionism by publishing my very first VIDEO, where I explore this theme more deeply. Please check it out and let me know what you think.
On Sunday we have a New Moon in Virgo, which is also a partial Solar Eclipse. As the sun, moon and earth align, it appears as if the moon is moving across the sun, causing a shadow. We won’t see it in South Africa, but symbolically, it means that the masculine (Sun) is being eclipsed / vanquished by the Feminine (moon), which sets the theme for the next lunar cycle. With the new moon opposite Chiron (the wounded healer) in the gentle sign of Pisces, we’re being provided with a strong feminine flourish of healing and feeling – with a dollop of earthy Virgo practicality stirred into the mix.
One of the best ways of working with the energy of a Virgo New Moon is to take some time to discern what you want to let go of and what you want to keep: what is healthy and what’s not, what is useful and what’s done its time. It’s an excellent time to detox or purge your cupboards, body, mind and your emotions, from whatever is weighing you down and holding you back.
As we approach this new moon, old wounds, physical pain, grief or sadness (Chiron) may arise – all coming up for another chance to heal.
TEN things TO DO this VIRGO NEW MOON
- Sit quietly and connect with how you’re feeling and what is coming up for healing
- Notice where you feel it in your body
- Ask for a symbol, a colour or a texture.
- Ask how this feeling is serving you or what its telling you.
- Breathe deeply
- Surrender. Let a wave of softness and compassion wash through you.
- Afterwards, write down whatever you want to release, burn it, blow away the ashes.
- Clear out a cupboard or two
- Give something away
- Commit to doing one thing towards a healthier, fitter, happier you – every day for the next 21 days.
Mercury turns retrograde from 17 September to 9 October, so be sure to back all your electronic gadgetry up before then.

Have a good weekend everyone.
Glad it’s the weekend? Been feeling a little wiped out, frustrated or irritable this week… as if you’ve been beating your head against a brick wall? Well, the good news is that the planets have a lot to do with it and this too, shall pass. Saturn (the planet of limitation) is sitting on top of Mars (energy and our goals). So… the more we try to desperately control things, the more we push against the current, the tougher things are going to be right now.
Probably the best thing we can do until the New Moon on Monday is to chill, catch up with ourselves, dream and just be.
What if, for the next few days, you stopped striving and pushing and allowed yourself to just love and accept exactly where you are in your life at this moment? What if you just surrendered? What if you nurtured yourself with what you need right now? What if….?
If that’s not completely possible and you feel that you must “do” something, as always on a waning moon, this is a great time to time to clear out and let go of beliefs, habits and extraneous stuff that no longer serve us. The Sun moves into Virgo (the discerner) on Saturday 23rd and provided we take time to listen, will help us to do just that.
There’s also thankfully some beautiful, romantic, heart expanding, creative energy around at the moment, so grab the one you love (maybe that needs to be you) or your significant others, family and friends and spend some quality time together….
