NEW MOON, MERCURY RETROGRADE, URANUS MOVES!

6 MARCH 2019

Change is in the air

This is a big week astrologically, starting with a New Moon in Pisces on the 6th March, which is less than one degree away from Neptune, king of the ocean and ruler of Pisces. Mercury turns retrograde in Pisces on the same day, until 28th March,  which involves a a rare and close dance  with Neptune that will last until the middle of April. This expands and extends the Piscean theme considerably.

Last, but certainly not least, also on 6th March, Uranus, the planet of change, re-enters Taurus, where he will stay until 2025/6.  At this new moon, we have 5 planets in mutable (changeable) signs, suggesting that this is a time where things are shifting and moving at warp speed. The faster they go, the more we need to slooooowwww down and breathe!

PISCES

Let’s plunge into those Piscean waters a little more deeply. When the Sun makes its way through the sign of the fish, the final sign of the zodiac, it marks the end of our Astrological year. Although New Moons are always the time to plant intentions, this one asks that we hit the pause button on our fast, forward moving,  analytical minds and spend time going within, re-visiting and re-visioning  our dreams, ideals, aspirations, and spirituality and setting intentions from a much deeper, more feminine heart-based place.

Pisces is a mutable water sign (the symbol is of two fish swimming in opposite directions) – representing the healer, the mystic, the artist.  We might see it as one fish giving us access to the dreamworld, the unconscious, imagination, intuition, Divine Connection and calling upon us to surrender to the flow of life.  The other fish might urge us to separate from the flow of life, swim upstream and can lead us to feel confused,  deluded, addicted or  victimised.

The question is – do we choose to go with the flow,  try to swim upstream or find a balance between the two? That, for me, is the theme of the coming lunar month.

The next few weeks  will be very supportive  for dream-work, art, meditation and reaching expanded states of consciousness.   Honour this energy by spending time in and around water and nature, listening to gentle music and quietening yourself as often as you can. Our extra sensory perception, intuition and sensitivity are heightened right now, so if we slow down and listen, we can find healing and receive direct guidance from Source.

If, however, we persist in forging forward, ignoring our bodies and disregarding our intuition, this can be a time of confusion, fogginess, feelings of victim-hood, and misunderstandings. Our bodies will be more sensitive too, so we need to pay more attention to what they are communicating to us and what we’re ingesting.  This is the  time of the year to detox on all levels, release, surrender and flow with what arising. Any resistance to what “is” is only going to make it harder, so why resist… right?

MERCURY RETROGRADE

As you will know if you read my blogs regularly, during Mercury Retrograde, travel plans and communications can and often do, go awry. I highly suggest that you double check any travel bookings, vehicle road-worthiness,  back up all your data and be very clear in your communications with others.  Read the fine print on any contracts carefully over the next few weeks and if you’re unsure, get a second opinion.

URANUS IN TAURUS

Uranus moves into Taurus on the day of the New Moon and will stay there until 2026. The planet of change visited Taurus from  6th May to 7th November last year, so take a few moments to  reflect on what was happening then and you’re likely to find a connection to what’s coming up and changing for you now.  If you have a copy of your chart, this will  likely be in the houses in which Taurus resides. When a slow moving planet like Uranus changes signs, we all feel the energy in some way, but if you have any personal planets or your ascendant in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Aquarius and Scorpio) you will probably feel this move more acutely.  Over the next 7 years, Uranus will move over these points in your chart, symbolising some change in those areas.

The interesting thing about Uranus in Taurus is just how different the energies are.

URANUS

Uranus glyph

Uranus was referred to by the Romans as “the great awakener” and to the Greeks,  he was the “God of the sky” and the creator of life as we know it.  The symbol for Uranus is a circle, 2 crescents and a cross, symbolising the bringing of divine truth into our lives on earth. Astrologically, Uranus rules everything related to the sky – lightning, electricity, electronics, new inventions, sound waves, the internet,  metaphysics, alternative modalities, out-the-box thinking,  healing, computers and community.

This energy of Uranus is revolutionary, maverick, free spirited and innovative – a Uranus move can be likened to a flash of lightning, shaking loose whatever is stagnant or immovable, in order to make way for the new.

We could view Uranus moving into a new sign in a similar way as we see a software upgrade on our computer or cell phone. At first it can feel irritating, as we might have to stop what we’re doing and reboot the computer. However, when its done and we settle in to the new changes, we start to appreciate the upgrade and the new features that are available to us.

TAURUS

Where Uranus rules the sky, you might say that Taurus rules planet earth.  This fixed, feminine, earth sign  is very concerned with safety, stability and not shaking the foundations or upsetting the status quo. Particularly when threatened, the bull can  dig his heals  in and stubbornly hang onto whatever seems to constitutes security and safety.

Taurus rules the land, our food, our money,  our physical bodies, beauty, the five senses,  and that which we possess and value.

SKY MEETS EARTH

When Uranus and Taurus combine, there are usually significant, sometimes radical changes.  Globally, a move like this can signal sudden, unpredictable shifts  to planet earth. I’m not an expert in the astrology of  global events, but when Uranus moved into Taurus last year, it coincided with the eruption of the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, which resulted in around 1700 people evacuating their homes.

Historically if we look back, when Uranus was last in Taurus in the 1930’s, the world saw the rise of Hitler and many countries changed their monetary system from the gold standard. Most global astrologers are predicting  many more changes to our monetary systems over the next 7 years, possibly moving more and more towards crypto-currencies etc.  We are likely to see more technological inventions and changes in our health care, personal health monitoring, farming, food and beauty.

We are also likely to see radical change in our  value systems, with more and more people moving towards owning less and simplifying their lives. There could be a lot more people living in communities, sharing resources, cars, homes and working together to become more self sustainable.

As a collective, the next 7 years is calling upon us to raise our consciousness, to attune to and honour this planet and our own bodies.  The best investment we can make is learning to become more self autonomous, live more simply,  start our own businesses, grow our own food and  rely on our own resources, thereby reducing our debt load.

Uranus in Taurus will urge us to really take care our food, our water resources and all aspects of the feminine –  and to remember that Earth is a living, breathing being and without her, we humans cease to exist. If we persist in abusing her as we have done, she will retaliate. This is happening already on a personal level with more and more women widely publicising abuse and mistreatment.

Personally, over the next 7 years we will be asked to reevaluate where we find our safety, belonging and security.  We will be asked to redefine our value systems and our relationship with whatever we believe we possess – (as if we ever really possess anything in this constantly changing world).  We will be asked to question how we define ourselves, which is revealed by the words we speak.  Be aware of sentences  starting with  “I live for… my pets, my job, my home, my art, my partner, my children.  or “I am a …. mother, business person, seeker etc”.  Yes,  these things might be important to us or they might be the roles we play, but we cannot let them define who we are any longer.  I find it helpful, when I feel very attached to something, to put the word “the” in front of it. Instead of “my” car, “my home”, by referring to it as “the car, the home etc, helps to give me some space and perspective, from which I am able to respond with  more clarity.

Uranus in Taurus urges us to find our sense of stability and belonging from the only place that never changes – that quiet still place inside us that is always there, no matter how crazy the world around us is.

HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU PERSONALLY

New Moon March 17th in Pisces

trust image.jpg

BY MICHELLE MCCLUNAN

Hi Everybody

Well we’re in the final stages of the moon’s waning (releasing) cycle and preparing for the New Moon March 17th in Pisces. This is a really important one, as it heralds not only the end of a month’s cycle, but also the beginning of the end of our Astrological year. The New Year starts on 20th /21st March, when the Sun moves in Aries.

Due to the New Moon being in close proximity to Chiron, the wounded healer, this is also a very unique  opportunity to gain understanding and bring healing to our deepest and most painful struggles or hurts. More about that further on. This is greatly expanded and possibly assisted by a trine to Jupiter in Scorpio. We also have 3 planets in Aries, adding a fiery element to the mix.

NEW MOON IN PISCES

A new moon in Pisces is always a time of letting go, releasing and planting new seeds for the year ahead.  As a mutable water sign. Pisces strengthens our connection to all that is/ Source/ the Divine; as well as activating and deepening our imagination, intuition and creativity. At this time of the year, we are able to refine our perceptions and raise our consciousness, by aligning with and flowing with the energy of the moment. It is a time to release and surrender the year.

The symbol for Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions and there are most definitely two sides to the sign, as there are with all the signs of the zodiac.

THE FLIP SIDE

The flip side of Pisces energy is that it is can also be a time when we feel the suffering of everything more acutely, when we are more sensitive or when our grief, sadness, fears, or victimhood can come to the surface. We can also feel lethargic, tired, confused,  all at sea, in a fog, hopeless, invaded, frustrated, victimised, or ill. It’s the end of a cycle after all!  It’s often a time when people who have been struggling to release an age or illness-ravaged body are able to finally let it go. If you haven’t heard, Stephen Hawkins passed yesterday. My uncle passed peacefully on Tuesday too. He was very old and it was time! Whilst visiting him last week, he certainly seemed to be connecting with and drifting between different dimensions, starting the process of completing his journey here and moving on.

FALLOW FIELDS AND THE VOID

So – this is the time of the year when the fields of our lives need to be cleared, and the soil left to stand fallow for a bit to recover,  before a new crop is planted.

The problem is, most of us homo sapiens are more human doings than human beings, and a lot of us aren’t too crazy about stopping the noise, possible because when it does, we are pulled into a quiet place where all that remains is us and “all that is”.  We generally aren’t too happy to be in a void for long, so we tend to fill it up as quickly as we can and that is where the exhaustion sets in.  We just don’t give ourselves time to catch our breaths and recover, before carrying on with the next thing!

Nevertheless, it’s very clear that this is what we’re being called up upon to do, even it its uncomfortable at first. Bite sized pieces of the void are better than no void at all 😊That’s why meditation or stillness are so important, because they give us mini vacations in our overflowing lives.

CHIRON – THE WOUNDED HEALER

The reason this new moon is SO important is because of Chiron, who is sailing along right next to the sun and the moon and is about to leave the sign of Pisces where he has been since 2011.  Due to having a 51 year orbit, this marks the end of a much longer cycle as well!.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer (we all have one) can be seen as the wound that make us wise;  the pain and struggles that are actually designed to help to grow and raise our consciousness, even though it really doesn’t feel like that sometimes!  When Chiron moves through Pisces, we are asked to investigate how much we trust  – not other people –  but rather how much we trust the flow of life; how much we are able to surrender to the ebb and flow cycles; how much we are able to understand that we are connected and supported by something much bigger and more mysterious than our the physical world.

If you were born between the years of around 1961 to 1969, you probably have your natal Chiron in Pisces, like me, which means that this is part of your core wound anyway, If so, you  might feel as if you’re being tested now more than other people, as Chiron makes his last freestyle dash though the deep waters of Pisces, making sure you get the message and the healing. There is help at hand!

TRUST, SURRENDER AND RELEASE

Whether or not you fall into this category, we are ALL  being urged to trust, surrender and release something or somebody at this time.

IF YOU HAVE HAD YOUR CHART DONE:

The area that Chiron is moving through your chart will give you clues as to where you need to trust, surrender and release. If for example, Chiron has been travelling through your 4th house, it might suggest that something to do with your home or your home itself or your family needs to be released. If he’s travelling through your 10th house, then the focus would be on on your career/vocation; in the 6th house your health and so on. The area in which Chiron was in when you were born will also be brought into the mix.

Wherever Chiron is now and wherever it was when you were born, you would have had many opportunities to work with  trust.  faith, surrender and deepening your connection over the past 7 years or so.

You’re welcome to book a short session with me to investigate how this is playing out in your chart, and what you need to release  before Chiron moves into Aries in April. Heads up – This might be contrary to your personal preference!

IF YOU HAVEN’T HAD YOUR CHART DONE

If you  haven’t had your chart done or aren’t keen to have it done, then just just intuitively connect with what you feel you need to release right now in your life.

HOW TO WORK WITH THIS ENERGY

  • Please make some time before or on the New Moon to jot down the main things that have happened in the last astrological year in all aspects of your life. The wins, the losses, new arrivals, departures, health, work, finances, home, family etc.
  • If possible, do some kind of clearing or detoxing of mind, spirit, body before the New Moon as well. This is arguably the best time of the year to do this.
  • Then preferably on the day of the new moon, connect with the energy of water in some way – the sea, a river, a dam, a stream or if none of those a swimming pool, bath or bowl of water.
  •  One idea is to write  down what you want to release, on a leaf or a stone and set it down / throw it into the water… or come up with something even more imaginative!  Watch as it drifts down the river or gets washed out to sea. As you do so, repeat to yourself

I cleanse and release all the dead weight from the year gone by. I release………………………. (be specific)

I calm and centre my mind, body, and spirit, so I may hear the calling of my soul guiding me in the right direction

I replenish my energy and welcome in a new vision for my life (describe it) – you could send something into the water course to represent this too, if you like.

We’ll be  working with this in my  EBB & FlOW Workshop on Saturday 17th March. I still have a bit of space, so join us if you are able to. Email me for details

MERCURY RETROGRADE

Mercury will be retrograde from 23rd March to 16th April,  so make sure you back up all your data and double check travel arrangements before then.

Thanks for reading!

To Surrender or not to Surrender?

dandelion

Coming up on the 26th February, we have a powerful solar eclipse (new moon).  The sun is joined by the Moon, Mercury, the South Node,  Neptune and widely by Chiron … all in Pisces. That’s a whole lot of water right there!

Solar Eclipses always indicate major endings, in order to usher in the new. This is  especially true when they happen in Pisces. Being the last sign of the zodiac, this signals that the end of the astrological year is nigh.  This one is connected to the Pisces  Solar eclipse in March 2015, so  there might very well be a connection, if you think back to that time.

Pisces is a dual water sign  (two fish swimming in opposite directions) and relates to the dreamworld, imagination,  intuition, surrender, Divine Connection and all things mystical. However, it is also associated with  delusion, illusion, addiction and  self-sabotage. It shows us where we let ourselves down, over and  over again, where we still consider ourselves to be victims and where we’re waiting for somebody else to come in and rescue us.

If this eclipse involved only a batch of planets in Pisces, I would expand on that, but it’s really not that simple.  Bringing all that  water to the boil , we also  have a major pattern in the sky, formed by Mars (masculine, goals, ambitions, ego drives) in fiery Aries ( the  warrior)  at the same degree as Uranus,  the planet of radical change and liberation; square  transformational Pluto and opposite expansive Jupiter.

So in English now… this combination of energy says – “What do you desire?  Where do you want to go?  How are you going to get there?  It’s time to push yourself forward, take no prisoners!  Don’t be a woes! Make those changes now and  get things moving!.”

So… what do we do with that?

Push forward or surrender?

I’ve just read a very interesting book called The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer.  He has made a life-long  commitment to release his personal preferences, and surrender to the bigger “plan” for his life. The story that emerges is very  interesting,  because every single time he relinquishes his ego drive,  something bigger and better than he ever could have imagined, opens up for him.

However, I have to admit, even though this resonated with me on one level, there was and still is, a voice inside my head  that pops up to say…. “But what happens to MY dreams, MY needs, MY purpose… if I surrender entirely to the flow???”

I’ve been mulling over this for a while and have yet to come up with anything definitive, but it does bring to mind  the first  time I ever rode a horse in the wild. It was at NIGHT, a moonless night at that and we were heading down into a valley in the middle of Zululand.  At one point, early on  in the ride,   I could see absolutely nothing. Let me tell you, my ego was freaking out. Every part of me wanted to take control of that horse, or get off and walk.  My body was stiff, I was scared and hanging on for dear life. A friend (experienced at riding in the dark) advised me to soften my body and give my horse a very long rein so that he would be able to smell and sense his way along.

This was completely counter- intuitive, because all  I wanted to do was tighten the reins and hang on with all my might. However,  due to the fact that I didn’t actually know anything about riding, and  had no idea of how to get to where we were going,  I had no option but to take his advice.  All I needed to do was to stay on the horse and keep my head down, to avoid being de-eyed by unseen branches!

The amazing thing was the  more I surrendered my control and put my faith in this  incredibly intuitive being, the more I realised that I could trust him to lead me to where I needed to go, which he did… and flawlessly at that, never even faltering once.  Along the way, on the straight sections, we cantered, wind in our hair…nothing but the sound of horses hooves on the ground and the occasional “Yeehaa!” from the likes of me and my fellow rookies.  I remember closing my eyes at one point and letting my steed do what horses do, without any interference from me at all. I felt completely connected to  him, to the evening, to the earth, the sky, the stars… the whole caboodle.

By trusting and surrendering to something bigger, I had one of the most exhilarating, liberating experiences of my life … and I reached the destination, but in an entirely different way to how I would have planned it. If I reflect on it, whenever   I have surrendered to the flow, I have been supported!

I  guess there is a midpoint somewhere between our  ego drives and surrender.  Perhaps this eclipse asks us to find it. What if we show up, wholeheartedly… get on the horse, head in the basic direction and then let go of the reins a little?  What if we are kinder, gentler, less cruel, less rigid… softer… towards ourselves and others?  What if we are able to relax and trust that we really are not alone in all  this and that there might be an even bigger, more delicious  plan in store for us than the one we’ve imagined ?

As Rumi says, “Life is a balance between holding on and letting go” … perhaps it’s  a dance between making it happen and allowing it happen.

Please see my newsletter or email me for details about my “Art of Surrender” workshops in March.

Lifelight Astrology March 2014

be still

By Michelle McClunan

March slips quietly into the great blue yonder with the first of two new moons this month on Saturday 1st.  With the Sun, the Moon, Chiron (the wounded healer) and Neptune all in Pisces, there’s a very strong, watery theme indeed.  On the same day we have Mars, Mercury and Saturn in a stationary position, after which they will turn retrograde. More about that below.

Fortunately the new moon falls over a weekend, so hopefully we’ll be able to heed the Universal call to apply the brakes and come to a full  STOP ( I think that’s a clear enough message, with three stationary planets), to  tune out the noise, centre ourselves and connect at a deeper level.

Let’s be human beings this weekend and not human doings!

Imaginative Pisces is a water sign that represents amongst other things –  connection to the divine, healing,  oneness, spirit,  that which is hidden in the unconscious, illusion, delusion, addictive patterns, letting go and surrender. We give Pisces its form and substance through  all different forms of creative expression and flow.

This really is a new moon to go inside and listen. We will all be more  sensitive and finely attuned to spiritual and creative dimensions than usual.   We can also be more emotionally sensitive, tired, lethargic, addicted and depressed than usual.  Wherever you’re at, this  New Moon is setting the stage for a month of surrendering, rather than  striving and controlling. In fact the more we push, the more we’re going to feel like fish swimming upstream. So… I ask myself … Whats the point?

Let’s leeean back… breeeeathe……slooooww down….  Be still…. Feel how your body and soul feels even reading those words.

If possible this weekend,  go for a long walk on a beach , or if you’re inland, find a river.  Reflect on,  journal or creatively process  any illusions, delusions, false beliefs or addictions that may be holding you back from living your life fully. Where are you fighting and resisting and how you can surrender more? What do you need to complete, clear out or release, to prepare to embrace the new astrological year with a lighter load?

When I look at the planetary activity for this   month and next, March feels like the calm before the storm. There’s another  Grand Cross happening in April, so this is the time to hunker down, connect with and stabalise our centres.

I know I sound a bit like a broken down record, but we really are being called upon as a species to drop our “head” knowledge down to the heart, to get in touch with our souls and not our egos.

More about Mars Retrograde1st March until 20th May

Mars is a masculine planet, that represents how we use (or abuse) our energy in an effort to reach our goals. When it turns retrograde, it’s a prompt to reconsider and re-evaluate our goals, how we go about achieving them and  reflect on how we are spending our energy. Are we making wise investments energetically or poor ones?  Who are the people and what are the situations that raise our energy and who and what drains it?  Really watch that this month. In any situation, feel how your energy is responding. Do you feel revitalised or demolished?  Then re-assess how you can put up healthy boundaries when faced with energy gobbling people, places or situations. Are  you able to stand up for yourself when its called for, in a gentle but strong way?  Can you say “no”?

With Mars being in Libra (the scales) when faced with a challenge, we’re  being encouraged to stop, centre and assess before we react. We need to look at other people or  situations as mirrors serving our growth.  What routines or rituals can we introduce to reduce stress  and create more balance and harmony? Can we be more considerate towards others in terms of the energy we’re putting out?  How can we be Peaceful warriors and stand authentically in our truth in an honest, loving, peaceful way?

Saturn retrograde – 3rd March to 21st July

Saturn is the planet of karma, lessons, limitations and structure.  The next few months will provide us with an opportunity to re-examine and restructure our lives, especially those parts that we find limiting, heavy or inhibiting.  Its about re-organising schedules and setting up systems that serve us.  Look at what you’ve been procrastinating about and attend to whatever needs sorting – finances, taxes (eeu…I know)  This is a time for each of us to stop blaming something  or somebody “out there”  for the situations we find ourselves in, to take full responsibility for our lives and grow up. The area where this will be most highlighted will be the house in which Saturn is situated in your chart.  A Saturn Retrograde period is also a time to re-asses where we have over-committed, dump the things that aren’t entirely necessary and put up healthy boundaries.

Although I realise this might not be entirely feasible,  this month is  not optimal in terms of starting major new projects.  Our energy is best spent  completing, clearing, contemplating, structuring and  planning.

Mercruy goes direct

Most of you will be relieved to know that Mercury goes direct on the 2nd March. Thankfully, this should alleviate some of the crazy technical glitches, delays, contractual upsets and misunderstandings. Whew!

 Full moon – 16th March

Allow the full moon in Virgo on the 16th to show you what healthy routines you can implement to get your mind, body and spirit into balance. More about that closer to the time.

2nd New moon – 30th March

All of the above is in preparation for the 2nd New Moon on the  30th March which feels like the real start of the year. As the sun (our will) and moon (our feelings) dance together in fiery Aries, we will be encouraged to leave the past behind, be brave and give birth to new ways of being; to blaze new pathways, and fully participate in the life you want to co-create with an incredible lightness of being.

I will be posting regular updates on my Facebook page throughout the month. https://www.facebook.com/MichelleMcclunanCreativeSelfDiscovery
