LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 17th August Solar Eclipse coming up

Solar eclipse

A TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART

I don’t know about you, but it feels as though I’ve been bombarded with news about this eclipse season.  This is partly due to the fact that the Total Solar Eclipse will fall at the exact degree of  Mr Trump’s Ascendant (who was born on an eclipse). It will  also be visible across North America, which is probably why there’s so much hype from across the pond!

I’m going to try and simplify the whole thing:

MORE ABOUT THE ECLIPSE

  • On 7th August , we had a lunar eclipse in Aquarius  and on  21st August there will be a total solar eclipse in Leo.
  • At a Solar Eclipse, the Moon is positioned in between the Earth and the Sun, almost but not entirely blocking out it’s light, so as to create a corona or a ring of fire
  • Eclipse seasons happen twice a year, so it’s not that unusual.
  • However, this is the SECOND new moon in a LEO, which doesn’t happen often and as a result, is often referred to as a black moon.
  • It falls at 28/29 (final) degrees of the sign, which tends to shake things up and intensifies the energy more than normal.
  • This Solar Eclipse is conjunct (at the same degree as) one of the Royal stars, Regulus, which is concerned with success and fame, but it’s negative polarity is REVENGE.
  • Mars and Mercury (retrograde) are close to the eclipse as well, creating a Leo Stellium.
  • Eclipses are connected to the nodes of the moon, which are in Leo/ Aquarius from 28 April 2017 to 13th November 2018 extending this theme way beyond this eclipse.
  • This eclipse season links back to 19 years ago. It does NOT mean that the same thing is going to happen again, but if you look back, you might find some common threads

WHAT  DOES A SOLAR ECLIPSE REPRESENT FOR US SYMBOLICALLY?

  • A gateway between the material and subtle worlds – a portal or opening to something new.
  • A closure, a completion… where something disappears or ends, to allow for something new to enter.
  • The masculine (Sun) being eclipsed / vanquished by the Feminine (moon).
  • The feeling of life speeding up and unpredictable events occurring.
  • The revealing of issues that have existed quietly in the shadows – remember when a Solar Eclipse happens during the day, the light from the sun is hidden, briefly revealing the night sky.
  • Pressure, tension, anxiety, rage AND creative inspiration, liberation, flashes of intuition.
  • Something that’s been “cooking” for months or even years, can suddenly come to a head and before you know it… it’s over, or it changes…. just like that!
  • This can feel like a crisis or a big breakthrough, or both !
  • We all need to bear in mind that very often what feels like crisis, can turn out to be a gateway to a whole new experience, although we seldom see it at the time.

WHAT IS LEO ASKING US TO DO?

  • Leo is a fixed fire sign, that rules the heart and represents our unique essence.
  • Think of a lion living inside you, encouraging you to let go of old conditioning and to shine your light brighter, be MORE loving, to yourself and others, to expand your heart, to be courageous and roar with the uniqueness of you!
  • If you have repressed your fire/ fun side/ creativity/ rage, it will want to escape, somehow!
  • The Sun, Moon, Mercury retrograde and Mars in Leo presents us with a whole lot of fixed fire (Fixed – stubborn, contained, sustaining or repressed) (Fire – inspiration, creativity, intuition, recklessness, restlessness, anger, rage)
  • This combination of energy CAN lead to impatience, irritability, exhaustion, disagreements, volatility, or even violence, hatred and revenge.
  • OR, the energy can ignite something bigger, something higher within us and help us to make significant and enduring change.

HOW BEST CAN WE WORK WITH THIS ENERGY?

  • The best way we can serve this energy is to maintain a loving centre.
  • Instead of spreading bad news or hate speech, we CAN make a difference, by simply not perpetuating it.
  • If  horrific events showing up on your Social media timeline are depleting your energy, STOP reading them! If someone you know consistently posts negative stuff, un-follow them (for a while) until this energy cools.
  • If you are active on Social media, post inspiring news, beautiful imagery. The world needs more of that!
  • Instead of judging somebody else for their apparent shortcomings, ask yourself where you do the same thing and what you need to change inside yourself.
  • Instead of closing your heart, open it more!
  • Be the bigger person. Reach out to somebody who is struggling.
  • Hold and spread the light.
  • Light always wins over darkness!
  • As yourself how and where you can be more loving, more daring, more creative, have more fun, perhaps even take a risk or two?
  • Reflect on what needs to change and take some sort of action on the day of the Solar Eclipse to activate that change.

New Moon 26th April 2017

lying grass

By Michelle McClunan

On 26th April we have a new moon in Taurus , which celebrates the  recent re-emergence of the Venus from the underworld.

The planet of love and money (ruler of this new moon) has turned direct after her  retrograde journey, which happens only once every 18 months. This is often  likened to Persephone’s descent into the underworld, where she gets to face her shadow, amongst other things. During a Venus retrograde period (especially if Venus features prominently in our charts) we face the parts of ourselves which we dislike or disown.  In addition to this, any fears or insecurities about money, love, safety and self- worth very often come bubbling up to the surface.  This has been emphasised in 2017 due to Venus also being locked into a tight square with stern, restrictive Saturn.

The good news…( yes there is good news!)…. is that not only has she turned direct again,  but she is also separating from the square with Saturn,  and is about to embark on a brand new journey on the 29th April when she enters Aries.

This beautifully gentle new Taurean moon ushers in some very welcome earth energy, after all the fire and brimstone of the past month, which has left many of us scorched and gasping for breath… and for an oasis of some sort.  We need to be aware that there are still some sparks flying around, which could easily start more blazes if they’re not tended, but generally the energy seems to have quietened down a little.

This new moon is a good time to integrate any learnings we’ve received during our time underground and to set new intentions regarding money, security or relationships.

Taurean energy is not fast or fiery. It’s slow and stable, methodical and sensual. Remembering that we still have 4 planets retrograde, this is not all about forward motion and climbing the next mountain. It’s about being present and patient and then taking the next step and then the next. It’s always possible to deal with this moment and the moment 60 seconds from now!

The sun’s passage through Taurus and this  new moon also  encourage us to reconnect with mother nature in a big way.

With all that’s going on, Earthing or grounding is essential right now.

Earth is an electrical planet, and we are bio-electrical beings.  Emerging science  has revealed that direct contact with the EARTH gives us an  energy infusion, which can help to restore and stabilize the circuitry that governs our  physiology and organs, harmonise our basic biological rhythms, boost self-healing, reduce inflammation and pain, improve our sleep and engender feelings of calmness. This  must be why we always feel better when we spend time in nature!

If you’re still feeling fiery, anxious,  burnt out, sluggish, frustrated, or exhausted, take some time to reconnect with Mother Earth and ask her to  recharge you. Walk barefoot as much as you can. Try lying down on the grass for a while and allow her beautiful  energy to seep into your being. Revel in those small, simple, sensual  moments of comfort or joy – luxuriate in a bubble bath, sit under a tree, dip your toes in a stream, slow down, stroke a cat, bask in the sunlight, read a good book, sip or eat something delicious… and enjoy the long weekend!

Check out the upcoming  ART OF EARTHING workshop on 22nd May. If you’d like to do the workshop but can’t make the date, let me know and I might schedule another one.

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 10TH APRIL

butterfly roseLIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY UPDATE

10 APRIL 2017

By Michelle McClunan

Hi everybody

I’ve been contemplating over the past few days, whether to even write a newsletter for the full moon on Tuesday 11th April, because to be honest, I’m not sure I have any wise words for anybody at the moment. Having been through the ringer myself over the past few weeks, I’m feeling a little bent and bruised and am still trying to makes sense of it all.   So… I’m going to just write this and let what needs to emerge, emerge! This comes from a place of not having the answers…and I guess that’s ok!

As the Sun moves through Aries, joining revolutionary Uranus, we are being called upon to be Bold and one of the boldest things we can do, is to show up 100% for ourselves and to be vulnerable.

Some words from Brene Brown “Courage is a heart word. The root of the word courage is cor – the Latin word for heart. In one of its earliest forms, the word courage meant “To speak one’s mind by telling all one’s heart.” Over time, this definition has changed, and today, we typically associate courage with heroic and brave deeds. But in my opinion, this definition fails to recognize the inner strength and level of commitment required for us to actually speak honestly and openly about who we are and about our experiences — good and bad. Speaking from our hearts is what I think of as “ordinary courage.”

In addition to the political shenanigans in South Africa over the past few weeks, which have wobbled our worlds, many of us have had a whole heap of other challenges to deal with as well. A quick list of some  of mine – a dear friend of mine was  diagnosed with Cancer and is having chemo as I write this;  my beloved  16 year old cat  died; I received a shocking and very hurtful accusation from an old and trusted friend;  my geyser burst, which lead to me having to vacate my living area for  a week;   I smacked  my head hard  on my car door, resulting in a deep gash in my eyebrow;  old health challenges have re-presented themselves and I had a car accident on Friday followed by two people getting very aggressive towards me….eish!

A part of me seriously just wanted to curl up, lick my wounds and hopefully protect myself from any further onslaughts. Having given myself the opportunity to do just that yesterday, I am now starting to feel the glimmer of something else arising. I’m not sure what it is exactly, but I know, without any doubt that there’s something much bigger at play here that needs my attention. I do believe that when we feel as though we’re being pummeled, there’s always something more going on.

The way I see it, with FOUR PLANETS RETROGRADE right now, we’re all being encouraged to take responsibility for what’s going on in  our lives, to get REAL,  reflect, review, and reassess everything!

With all this retrograde energy, it can feel as if we’re taking one step forwards and a few backwards; as if our progress is being blocked, or we’re being physically stopped or slowed down. Some of us might even feel hopeless, unable to “see” the future” and maybe fearful of even contemplating what lies ahead.

All of us have experienced that moment when a computer/tablet/cell phone starts just going haywire. It might freeze or a strange gobblygook language might  appear on the screen. It’s almost as if the device is  saying “I’m overloaded… too much going on… too much is being demanded of little old me…please give me a break!”  Sometime,  the only option is to switch the thing OFF… and when we do this, and then turn it back on,  it often sort itself out.

It’s the same with us, methinks…There’s never been a better time to  re-set…re-boot!

Here’s how I see this Retrograde season.

Mercury Retrograde (until 4th May) – We’re all familiar with this one, which comes with reassessing how we communicate with ourselves and others (including unspoken communication – the raising of eyebrows, body language, the way we turn away or walk away from somebody and in so doing, dismiss them); the amount of time we spend on social media, our phones, our computers or in front of the TV; the way we numb our feelings, by absorbing more and more information, which can result in us really not knowing what is true for us anymore.

Saturn Retrograde (until 26th August) – this can feel as if we’re being severely challenged or disciplined by a strict, finger-wagging celestial authority figure. It might feel like we’re being dealt a series of karmic klaps. Perhaps its a message that its time to be honest about our fears, about our shadow side and in a a kind and loving way, get real about where we are self- sabotaging ourselves,  where we keep repeating the same fruitless patterns and where we don’t live up to the promises we make.

Venus Retrograde (until 17th April)  – We get to review  our relationships with ourselves, friends and partners. Where are they out of balance?  Where might we be over-giving? Where are we pleasing others and forsaking ourselves or the other way around? What is truly valuable to us…now? How worthy are we? How much money, love, happiness do we deserve?

Jupiter Retrograde (until 10th June)  – where do we inflate things and situations?  Where do we exaggerate, blow things out of proportion, over-indulge?  Where do we see our own specialness as being more important than anybody else’s? What are the blessings or the learnings hidden within the challenges?  How can we grow from them?  Perhaps these hardships are softening us? Maybe they’re preparing us for something more? Could it be that we’re being humbled and brought to our knees for a reason?

Some examples in my own life (which I’m still working my way through) –  Geyser – Where in my life have I been putting myself under extreme pressure?  Where do I bottle up emotions (water) until they have to be released?. Bashing the ol head – what am I not seeing/ where do I keep on doing the same things, expecting things to change?  Car Accident – where am I not paying attention?  Where am I trying to push something that is stationary, forward? Aggressors – How am I handling my own rage and what is beneath it – Sadness, fear, grief?

The potent  full moon tomorrow in Libra calls us to look at where we mask our true selves, in order to please others and where we project our anger or aggression (Aries) onto the people in our lives (Libra).  It asks us to find out what, in our lives is out of balance and what needs to die, in order for something new to be reborn.  This full moon calls on us to be bold – to face the truth about ourselves, to sit with what’s going on and not run from it.  There is huge boldness in vulnerability, in surrender, in taking accountability and responsibility.

It was such a privilege to  journey with some special, brave souls this past Saturday on the first of my BORN TO BE BOLD workshops. I still have space on the second workshop on the 22 APRIL 2017.

If you feel the need to RE-SET or RE-BOOT, you might want to consider joining us at ANTBEAR lodge for our AUTUMN RETREAT from 12th 14 May.

Its been a while since I read “The Invitation” but it seems very relevant right now.

Lifelight Astrology

make-a-wish

26th December 2016

Every now and then, the Universe gifts us with a New Moon right at the end of a calendar year and that’s exactly what’s happening in a few days time! It’s a gift because New Moon’s are always opportunities to finish off and let go, so that we can plant beautiful new seeds.

On the 29th December, the Moon joins the Sun and Mercury (retrograde) in Capricorn. It’s almost as if we have our very own trio of  mountain goats, beckoning us to journey with them up the 2017 mountain. They’re at the ready to  equip us with  resourceful guidance, discipline, structure, responsibility and commitment.

…All sound a tad boring?  Well, never fear… Uranus is near, giving us a hearty whack of maverick energy to kick start the New Year!

The planet of change and liberation, turns direct on the same day as the new moon,  after a five month retrograde period.  When Uranus is retrograde, we feel the force of change internally, but often aren’t able to make it manifest, for one reason or another.

This new moon, should, by all accounts, be a positive catalyst for change! Yeah!

All those plans you’ve had – all the change you’ve  wanted to bring into your life?  This is the time!   If you feel excited and maybe a little nervous  about doing something different – something that will  expand you,  ignite you, excite you…that’s our revolutionary friend Uranus!

Connect with the energy of this mature, thoughtful, goal-driven Capricorn new moon to assess the changes you want to integrate into your life. Write them down. Make dates in your calendar. Commit to them.

And then… stir in a handful or two of sparkly  Uranus energy to take it up a few notches. Break out of the norm. Do something new… or… Do something old in a way you’ve never done before. Embrace the unique, the unusual, the invigorating!

Why not?

What do you have to lose?

Happy New Year to you all.  Its gonna be a cracker!

Mercury Retrograde/ Summer Solstice

summer solstice.png

Here’s a quick  heads up, as we scurry or scuffle towards the end of the year. Mercury in Capricorn turns retrograde on the 20th December until the 9th January. Being the planet of communication, it can and often does coincide with  disturbances or breakdowns in all forms of communication and conveyance. SO, even if it feels like you don’t have the time,  take a few moments to back up your ALL your data – across all your devices. Check your travel bookings and allow for extra time to get wherever you’re going. Check documents before you sign them and take ten deep breaths before you react verbally – to anything. Mercury is travelling alongside Pluto right now, which could make for some fairly intense interactions!

Apart from the irritating stuff, at a deeper level, we are all being given an opportunity to carefully consider, assess (Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn)  and transform ((Pluto) the way we think and communicate.

Over the next few weeks, see if you can  unplug from the continual influx of information whenever you can and re-flect on the quality of your thoughts. Ask whether the story you’re telling about yourself and your world is true. If not, set the intention to ditch some of the old mental garbage and start re-designing and re-framing your thoughts.

Down south, we have the Summer Solstice on the 21st December which is the longest day of the year, after which, the days start to get shorter.

The Solstice is always significant and powerful and is the perfect time to  release the old and dream in  the new – before we get carried away with Christmas and New Year festivities. If you haven’t yet, take a few moments (that’s really all it takes) to reflect back on the last 12 months (See my last blog) . Recognise  the wins,  losses,  challenges and  victories, acknowledging every single thing as integral to your journey.

A lovely ritual you can do at the solstice, is to write down anything you want to release from the year and surrender it into a candle flame or a bonfire. Remember that fire transmutes and transforms, changing what was into something else.

Then – write down your hopes and wishes for the next year onto another piece of paper. Light it and watch as the paper transforms to smoke, carrying your intentions out into the Universe.

I’ll be running two Vision board workshops in January to get those intentions working even more. Vision boards really work folks. See below for details or if you don’t receive my newsletter, email me on michellemcclunan@gmail.com

Thank you all for reading my ramblings and for those of you who have had readings done, attended my workshops and classes or in some way, been part of my 2016, I’m filled with appreciation and gratitude for the richness you’ve added to my life.

May you all have a stunning Solstice, a blessed Christmas and Fantastic New Year !

Love

Lifelight Astrology 13th December 16

untitled

As the end of yet another  year draws to a close and we find ourselves immersed in the silly season,  let’s take a few moments to consider the year and all it held, before we go scuttling off on another journey around that golden sun of ours.

The full moon in the early hours of the morning on 14th December  in Gemini, provides just such an opportunity. This is normally a  light-hearted, busy,  communicative, optimistic full moon – much like this time of the year is on the surface, with all the bells and gifts and  fairy lights and  Christmas cheer. But this year, Saturn is joining the party and adding a dose of seriousness to the mix . I do think its good to bear in mind that for many people, who might be experiencing loss, illness or struggle,  this can be the hardest and loneliest time of the year. In the next few weeks, as we count down to the end of the year, not only is Saturn travelling close to the Sun, but Mercury, the planet of communication is in Capricorn (the sign ruled by Saturn). The communicator will go retrograde on the 21st  and is hanging out with Pluto, the plumber of the Zodiac.

This can play out in a number of different ways.

Old Chronos (Saturn) can be a real party pooper, a finger-wagging, stern,  parental voice, taking up residence in our heads. He can tell us, in no uncertain terms what we’ve done wrong, how little we’ve achieved, where we’re failing in our lives  and what losers we are.

Or, he can be more of a kind-hearted parent, who has our best interests at heart and helps us to enter into a dialogue with ourselves and others,  to assess and COMPLETE the year, with a good solid dose of maturity, sprinkled with tenderness.

I’m seeing this truth seeking, communicative full moon and the weeks leading up to the new moon, on the 29th December, as a brilliant time to do this. We are being presented with just the right energy to GENTLY reassess the year,  look at the blessings, the challenges, the wins and the losses and to excavate the  GOLD!

Here are some questions that might help get you started:

  • What changed for you this year?
  • Describe  your challenges
  • Describe your wins
  • What do feel you accomplished?
  • What do you feel you didn’t accomplish?
  • Who were the most important people in your life this year?
  • Was there anybody new who arrived in your life?
  • Was there anybody who left your life?
  • Describe the sadnesses
  • Describe the joys
  • What have you  discovered about yourself this year?
  • If you could sum 2017 up in one word, what would it be?

Use these questions as a guideline, but add to them. If you like, play with images, or collages, or doodles.

As the moon wanes for the next few weeks, clear, declutter and let go of whatever you don’t need, so you can start afresh in 2017.

I still have a a couple of places left on my WRAP IT UP workshops this  Saturday or Sunday and have dates lined up for the VISION BOARD WORKSHOPS in JANUARY. Check out my newsletter or email me for details. .

If you haven’t yet done so, you might want to book an astrology session for the New Year to see what’s in store astrologically for you in 2017.

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 14TH SEPTEMBER

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 14TH SEPTEMBER

War or Peace

There are some strong themes in the heavens right now,  which suggest  that positive change is afoot.

LUNAR ECLIPSE

On Friday 16th September, we will have a lunar eclipse, following on from the solar eclipse on the 1st September. It’s a bit like we’re in the birth canal, where something new is about to be born, but we still need a few more hefty pushes.

A lunar eclipse happens  when the moon (feminine) is eclipsed by the Sun (Masculine). With this one, the sun is still in organised (male) Virgo, while the moon is in  (feminine) oceanic, free-flowing Pisces. But there’s more… our lunar lady is  swimming  gill-to- gill with Chiron the wounded healer and kick boxing with Mars in Sagittarius.

So… what this means in English, is that this Eclipse  is rather a wing dinger, where old wounds (and anger)  around male domination of women could be triggered. If you read deeper into this… it also means the triggering of anger within us, particularly if we honour  the masculine over the feminine, paying more attention to what we’re achieving, to the intellect, than to our inner workings.

When I feel into the energy of the eclipse, it reminds me a little of a  pressure cooker, which we need to keep an eye on, lest that pressure rise to a point where the lid pops right off!

Leading up to, during and after this eclipse, give yourself permission to process any residual or obvious irritation or anger and find a way of letting off some steam.  Anger often rises when the masculine and feminine  within us are polarised… when we’re not listening to our inner voices, when we’re disconnected from our souls.

We’re being urged right now in a big way, to really listen to what our bodies our telling us (Virgo), to connect with the feminine emotions that are simmering underneath the surface (Pisces) and to intuitively (rather than intellectually)  move towards our goals (Mars in Sagittarius).

…which  leads me to the next big planetary happening:

Drum roll please!

JUPITER HAS JUST ENTERED LIBRA

For the past year, Jupiter the planet of growth and expansion has been travelling through earthy grounded Virgo, along with the North Node of the moon. The energy of Jupiter is expansive, curious, optimistic and enthusiastic. It wants to travel, grow, learn, enjoy life and shoot its arrows towards the stars. When it’s in Virgo, it feels a tad boxed in to say the least.  During the last year, many of us have realised that the big bold creative ideas we had when Jupiter was in Leo (July 2014 to August 2015)    require routine and dedication and that Rome really wasn’t built in a day… Damn!  The  saying “Chop wood, carry water”  comes to mind. Necessary, but not entirely easy.

This is all rather humbling and very often, at this point, the “dreams” are put in the bottom drawer, as we feel overwhelmed, incompetent or incapable of moving forward with them.

And now, our planet of expansion has finally moved into peace-loving, beauty seeking, social, relationship-orientated  Libra. …it’s a bit like a breath of fresh air, which we will probably start to feel after the eclipse.  It will hopefully bring some lightness to the mix and in the next year, we should see growth, expansion and opportunities  in the Venusian areas of life –  love,  money, creativity, art, relationships, social contact, beauty, peace. … Yes Please!

Where ever Libra sits in your birth chart is where you can expect this kind of growth and opportunity.  If you think back to 12 years ago, when Jupiter was was last in Libra, you might get an idea of what’s in store for the next year.

Historically,  Jupiter moving into Libra has often come hand in hand with peace initiatives and lucrative trade agreements. World War II ended days after Libra entered Libra in 1945. On other occasions, according to astrologers specialising in that kind of thing,  the Oslo accord and the Strategic Arms Treaty were signed and SA abandoned it’s Nuclear Weapons programme. Let’s all hold the hope that there will be more of the same in the year to come.

Jupiter’s move also coincides with the ending of the heavy Saturn Neptune square which has had us all in its grip this year. So, here’s hoping the veil starts to lift a bit and that some clarity begins to peak out from behind those  Neptunian Clouds, so we can begin to birth the new.

Check out my new workshops in September and October, when we will be working with these themes. Email me for details if you’re not on my newsletter list.
