We’re in Retro Season – 6 Retrograde Planets

We’re in Retro Season – 6 Retrograde Planets

Have any of you been feeling as though you’re performing the lead role in Ground Hog Day?  Same thing – different day?

Well, you’re certainly not alone and it’s not really surprising, seeing as we have 6 planets AND Chiron, all Retrograde right now.  This means that from our perspective here on earth, they all appear to be moving backwards! Although it’s an optical illusion, the energy certainly isn’t!

RETROGRADE PLANETS

In a heavy retrograde period like this, we often feel as if our lives (or areas of our lives) have come to a standstill.  We know that things need to change, but are unsure of exactly what to do next.

It really can feel as though we are taking one step forward and three backwards, as if our progress is being blocked, or that we’re being physically stopped or slowed down.

Some of us might even feel hopeless, listless, confused, unwell, unable to “see” the future” and perhaps fearful of even contemplating what lies ahead.

When there is this much retrograde activity around, we’re urged to go back… reflect on, review, reassess, reconsider different areas of our lives, so that we can learn from them and re-envision a future more aligned with our true potential.

Without going into too much astrological detail, we are quite accustomed to the outer planets (Pluto, Neptune and Uranus) going retrograde every year and Mercury every few months. However, this time it’s a bit different as they’re all retrograde together and are joined by the other hefties (Mars and Saturn).

The good news is that Mercury will turn direct on the 20th August and Mars  on 29th August, followed by Saturn on 6th September, so things should start to  turn around in the next couple of weeks… , but first, let’s grab this retro season by the tail and see what its teaching us.

 MARS

The one many of us are feeling most acutely right now (particularly if it’s triggering your personal chart)  is Mars  Retrograde (from June 26 to Aug 27th) The fiery one only  retrogrades once every 1.5 years, so it’s not as common as the others. To intensify it even more, he’s been moving in and out of a square with Uranus, the planet of change!

The way I’m feeling the energy is – “I want / need this situation to change, before I can shoot my arrows in the direction of my goals and dreams”  – “Oh.. but hang on… I’m not exactly sure what those are… and before I move forward, there’s this to take care of… so not yet!”

Mars, the planet of action really doesn’t enjoy being… well… inactive. The fiery one wants to shoot his arrows towards his goals, dammit!  Move FORWARD… not backwards!  He’s impulsive, impatient and wants to get on with it.  Obviously, when this isn’t possible, it can lead to irritability, nervous anxiety, anger, accidents or clashes with others.  This has all been elevated by the Eclipse season, by the way.

PULL BACK!

Mars Retrograde is asking us to really reassess/ review our goals/ desires to see if they are still valid or if they need to be adjusted a bit.  He also asks us to look at how we are using or abusing our energy.  Are we sending it on missions that are helping or hindering us?That little arrow on the mars symbol is itching to be set free, but first, as any good archer would tell you, he has to PULL IT BACK, reassess the target, make sure his feet are planted on solid ground and that neither the target or the ground beneath his feet are moving. Then when the time is right, take aim and fire!… but not yet!

Hopefully, when he turns direct on 29th/30th August,  the pressure should ease a little. Until then, pull back, if you can. Reflect. Reassess. Review.

AND THEN THERE’S GOOD OL SATURN

Saturn, the Lord of Karma, Father Time, the stern parent teacher planet, has been retrograde since  April and will stay that way until 6th September.  On his journey through Capricorn (where he will remain until 2020), he is, more or less, grabbing us by the scruffs of our necks and making us confront reality, face up to our responsibilities and do what needs to be done.  He is  also insisting that we take responsibility for everything in our lives – the good, the bad and the ugly. Even the stuff that seemingly isn’t “our problem” or “our fault”  – Everything. All our actions. All our thoughts. All our words.

The tendency is to want to run and hide, but that’s not the way it works, because it will just come around again – cue Ground Hog Day – scene Ten!

Saturn is also a past master at revealing our old, deeply imbedded fears, core beliefs and old conditioning (sometimes karmic).  He will tell us exactly why the things that we say we don’t want, continue to repeat themselves, provided we take the time to reflect and review.

If you find yourself in the same situation AGAIN – in a particular area of your life, it could be a clue that there is something that needs to be worked with, a lesson that needs to be learnt, a karmic debt that needs to be paid or a thought pattern, person, place or situation that needs to be released.

WHERE IS IT HAPPENING FOR YOU PERSONALLY?

Your Personal Birth Chart will tell you in which areas of your life this is playing out and give you real insight into how to work with the energy, so as to prevent the same thing happening again… and again!!

Mars, Saturn and Pluto are all retrograding in Capricorn, so that’s the area of your chart that you will be working with this energy.

You are most welcome to schedule a session to work with me on this, to optimize the learning, before the planets turn direct.

In the meantime…

REFLECT

Without getting caught up in the full emotion of it, reflect on how you are feeling right now. Then, as if you are looking though a rear view mirror, think back to what was happening around January-February of this year and how it might be linked to how or where you find yourself now.  Where were you energetically? What was coming up for you? What were some of your major concerns and fears?  What has happened since then?

Then, if you like, go back even further to where this might have happened before in your life. Journal it, talk with somebody about it and try to trace the threads.

REVIEW

Review where you have been and might still be sending your energy.

Remember that when you focus on anything (positive or negative) for  17 seconds or more, it starts to change energetically.   So… if you’re sending your energy down the same muddy roads again and again, you’re just going to be faced with more potholes.

WATCH WHAT YOU’RE SAYING / MUMBLING,  UNDER YOUR BREATH, TO YOURSELF OR OTHERS.

  • Really get real with yourself and what you truly believe and are saying about your life, your future and the situation/s at hand.
  • A few prompts –
    • ………. keeps on happening to me
    • I can’t trust………………….
    • I hate……………………
    • I can’t …………………….
    • I feel limited by…………………..
    • I believe………………………..
    • I’m so sick of……………………….
    • I’m never going to be able to……………………
    • I fear…………………………..
  • Just know this… WHATEVER you’re saying over and over, is GOING to repeat itself!
  • Breathe in… Breathe out… and affirm the opposite

RE-ENVISION

One way to work out what needs to change is (for a few moments) to focus on what you DON’T want and how that feels to you.  You don’t need to STAY there – just visit briefly. Notice how it feels in your body. Give it a colour, a texture, a word and/or and/or an image.

Then come up with something that you do  want or a way that you would like to feel more often.  You are wanting to access a positive resource state. Make this as vivid as possible, using all your senses. This needs to be a situation or vision where you feel light, expanded, free, happy, joyful.  Consciously spend more time focusing your energy there.

Start and end your day by visualizing it as vividly as you can, until you can feel it pulsing in your body. A vision board, created with images that activate this state, also helps to connect with it. Gratitude journals work too, as do affirmations, particularly when done whilst in the “resource” state.

Heads up – if your patterns run very deep, you might need the help of a qualified therapist, Hypnosis practitioner, Life Coach or good Energy worker to help to clear and release them.

WORKSHOPS

I had two amazing workshops recently in Durban at the beautiful Rest and Digest in Gillitts. Watch this space for more to come.

I’m delighted to be running another retreat in Grotto Bay (Western Cape) in September. Called The Flowering of You, it has been created to coincide with the arrival of the exquisite wild flowers that appear here at this time of the year.

Thanks for reading. Please send comments as to how you feel this retrograde energy, if you feel led to.

Lifelight Astrology 5th June – New Moon

moon girl hooked

Anyone feeling a bit spun out?  Wondering what on earth is going on out there?

Well, I’m going to do my best to explain it from an astrological perspective, as I see it.

For a while now, we’ve had a number of planets in a square alignment called a Grand Cross.  It’s been around for about a week and will last until the 13th June.

New moon is on the 5th June, when the Sun and Moon are joined by Venus in Gemini,  focusing the spotlight on  communication, thoughts and information.

Opposing this bunch is Saturn and squaring them  are Jupiter, Neptune and the nodes. Here is the chart, for those of you who might be interested.

SFPage
With a few other alignments and retrograde planets thrown into the mix, many people are struggling right now and the common theme seems to be, that the more we push and strive and fight, the less things seem to be moving forward!

Anybody keen on joining me on a desert island somewhere?

But for now… back to the square …Cast your mind  for a moment to a boxing ring. Ever wondered why it’s called a boxing ring and not a square?

Well I have, so I looked it up. Apparently, the ring refers to the small circle in the centre of the fight area, where the boxers meet at the start of each round.  This is then surrounded by the square.

Have fun with this. Imagine yourself as a boxer entering  the ring and walking to your corner,   all primed, pumped and full of good intentions, ready to slay your opponent and thrill the audience. You put your head down for a millisecond and the next thing you know, you’re unceremoniously lifted up and flung into the corner, compliments of an early attack by  your opponent. You have no choice other than to fight back, lest you be pummeled into the ground,  which seems to work. Then, just as you’re catching your breath,  you’re  dragged by your hair to the third corner by an unseen wildcard opponent, who has decided to join the fray.  The two of you scramble on the floor, throwing wild punches hither and thither. One lands and your opponent is briefly stilled. Then, just when you think you’re in the clear, you receive an almighty punch from behind, taking the wind out of your rather deflated sails and you find yourself being hauled  around the square by yet another unexpected opponent.  At this point, you’re bloody and confused,  perhaps even a bit dim-witted and your self-confidence is in the dustbin, as the crowd’s boo’s fill the arena.

And then it starts again.

I liken the opponents in this story to the incessant and sometimes brutal noise inside our heads and the constant barrage of busyness and information that bombards us day and night. The more we allow them to enter, unchecked, the further we move away from the circle, from the centre of who we are, from the soul… the heart… and the more we spin out.

We can so very easily can get taken out by our internal dialogue and by the stuff that we’re feeding ourselves on a daily basis.

Unless…

We lift ourselves out of  and above the square or take ourselves to the centre of it– where we are able to get perspective on our thoughts and on the information we are consuming.

We all know the saying “Your thoughts create your reality” But how does it actually work? Well, this is what science says.  We generate an electro-magnetic field of attraction or repulsion with every single thought we have, through the release of hormones and chemicals known as peptides.

Our thoughts travel through positive/negative receptors in every cell of our body and fire sequences in the neuro-net passages of our brains. Our unconscious thoughts, which  operate below our conscious awareness, also hold great power over our lives, as they continually fire the peptide messengers that unconsciously drive our choices.

When we’re not achieving self mastery in our lives, there is a separation between our unconscious thoughts that are driving our choices, and the conscious thoughts of our desire.

So how do we bridge this divide? By slowing our brain waves down, through creative processes, mindfulness, meditation, quiet contemplation, or time spent in nature… or all of these. Each time we do this, we disconnect from our fearful limited thoughts and form new pathways!

All the more reason to find those quiet moments in the whirlpool of life.

Be sure in the next few weeks (and forever) to pause during the day and check in with your inner dialogue, with the  sensations in your body and with the emotions you are feeling. It only takes a few minutes.

Externally, assess what you’re consuming on a daily basis. Is your information diet rich in doom and gloom and are you engaging in situations  which bring your vibration up or  down and can you make a different choice?

Saturn in Sagittarius (the wise teacher) which is opposing this new moon, is challenging us to  step away and see the bigger picture. Jupiter in Virgo is asking that we bring routine into our lives, in order to help us do that.  Neptune in Pisces is there to suggest that the way we can stop the spinning is to bring ourselves into the centre and connect at a deeper level. The king of  the ocean also  reminds us to ask for help from other dimensions when we need it and stop trying to carry the load all on our own.

This new moon, see if you can have a day without consuming any outside information – no reading, no time on social media, no googling, no TV. Remember the days before cell phones, tablets and computers, when we used to be able to completely unplug for a full day or even a weekend? Aaaah…let’s go back there for a while!

What might your soul tell you if you dialed down the noise?

My two workshops this month on the 4th and 25th  are all about connecting with our inner dialogue. There’s still space if you’d like to join us – details below. If you’d like an astrology reading or a private  coaching  session with me, I can help you to investigate what your  inner dialogue is. Once you know, you’re far better equipped to re-write the story.

Please take a few moments NOW …before you do anything else to listen to some of the most profound  words ever written (in my opinion), regarding the power of our Thoughts and their impact on every day life…spoken so eloquently by Sir Lawrence Olivier in the musical “Time” Close your eyes and listen.

FULL MOON IN SAGITTARIUS 21st MAY

Sag moon

On Saturday 21st May we have the first of two full moons in Sagittarius. This one is nose-to-nose with the warrior planet Mars, at 1 degree of Sagittarius. The first and last degrees of signs always intensify the qualities of the planets in question, and this one puts a sword-like laser spotlight on communication and truth.  Full moons are always pretty intense anyway, as whatever  has been drifting along in the unconscious, is brought into the light. The combination of energies  this full moon could create some wonderful exciting sparks in communications and ideas…  or a raging inferno… depending on how we respond in the moment.

First of all, Mars… masculine, driven, assertive, passionate, impulsive and potentially aggressive, is still retrograde and because he’s a forward-moving type of chap, it’s not something he’s too fond of. Actually he can get rather edgy, frustrated, agitated or flat-out pissed off , when things don’t move as fast as they should, especially in the area of communications. Being in Sagittarius, there can also be impatience and  intolerance with people who don’t “get” things as quickly as we’d like them to, or say what we want them to say.  Fortunately, Mercury starts turning direct on the 21st, so that should  thankfully ease things a bit.

Back to the full moon – Gemini gathers information and knowledge, Sagittarius fires truth seeking missile arrows everywhere he goes.  The only thing is, the archer can be rather tactless at times, especially when he’s hanging out with warring Mars.

We all just need to be aware that our truth is not necessarily anybody else’s and to be cautious of wielding the sword of “our” truth, to all in sundry!

There is sure to be a LOT of noise and chattering going on inside and outside of our heads this full moon and we really need to filter it, before we react verbally or in writing.

If you feel triggered, try making some space for the  emotions as they arise, but don’t go into the story of them. For example: Somebody says or does  something and you suddenly feel angry/ sad/ hurt/ alone/ angry.  The knee-jerk reaction, courtesy of the Mars/ Moon conjunction is to project it onto the other person. Instead, allow yourself to notice the emotion and  let it just be there for a while,  without trying to change it. When your mind starts zooting down a myriad of rabbit holes, bring it back gently to the present moment. Emotions that are ignored or repressed will be the ones that cause the explosions or implosions this full moon.

On the days leading up to, and those directly following the 21st,  we could all do with taking 10 or 20 breaths before we blurt anything and this includes the words we say to ourselves.

Then ask…

...Is what I’m about to say absolutely true for me and for this person?

Is it necessary?

Is it kind?

In every moment we have the choice of going to war or not. Let’s not!

I still have some space on my Power Animal workshop this Saturday 21st – on Full Moon!   There are also  two exciting workshops in June. Check them out in the newsletter or email me for details

Lifelight Astrology – New Moon 6th May

abundance moon

PROSPERITY PORTAL

On Friday 6th May, there is the most beautiful,  prosperous and fertile new moon alignment we’ve had in ages. Beautiful because the sun and the moon are joined by  Mercury and Venus in Taurus (the sign of love, beauty and worth)-  a stellium (group) of planets which on its own brings sweetness, sensuality and a celebration of our earthly delights. But that’s not all – this new moon also forms  a flowing grand trine with Pluto and Jupiter – a connection wthich represents transformation, power and wealth;  and a sextile to Neptune, which brings a sprinkle of  Divine inspiration  and creativity into the mix.

And then … 2 days after this magical new moon, on the 8th May, Jupiter, who has been retrograde since mid January, finally turns direct. This will  hopefully start to turn the tides of prosperity, especially if you’ve been feeling that things have been going more or less nowhere or backwards since the beginning of the year.

However, we do need to acknowledge that even after Jupiter turns direct, we  will still have 4 planets in retrograde, so the key to navigating this energy, is to be patient and mindful. Rapid movements and impatience seem to  just set us back even more at the moment, so we really don’t have much option other than to go  S L O W L Y  one step at a time.

We  are being given a major opportunity to tune into the rhythm of Mother Earth (Taurus);  give our minds time off (Mercury retrograde);  slow things down energetically/ rest and recover (Mars retrograde); and assimilate/ consolidate (Saturn Retrograde)  the shifts / transformations (Pluto Retrograde) and higher learnings (Jupiter Retrograde) we have made and received over the past few months .

Even if you feel as though you haven’t been making much progress outwardly, if you slow down, tune in and listen, you will see that you have internally shifted.

When last did you really slow down?

I’m doing a wonderful Mindfulness course with some brilliant life coach friends at the moment (email me for details) , where we are being encouraged to be more mindful in  every area of our lives. What a difference it makes to everything!

There is an old Zen saying “ When eating, just eat!

Try it – When you’re eating, don’t do anything else. Just eat. When you’re drinking, just drink. Sip by sip. When washing the dishes, just wash the dishes. Feel the warm water on your hands. When brushing your teeth, just focus on doing that one thing.  Open up all your senses – look at the colours and the shapes, feel the surface textures, notice the sounds in your environment, smell the smells. You’ll notice that when you focus on one sense, it expands and improves your experience.

Taurus represents fertility and connects us to Gaia or Mother Earth. When we attune ourselves to her rythms, we tap into the stream of abundance.

This weekend, take some time to really smell the roses. Sit outside, or better still lie on the grass and just be. Listen to the sounds, feel the earth supporting you. Watch the clouds scudding across the sky. Smell the earth.  Feel how prosperous you really are, your connection to all that is and to the sense of stability that exists in the present moment.

feet on earth

This is just what we’re doing at the Slow  retreat I’m facilitating in the Midlands this weekend. Perfect timing!. On 21st May, we’ll connect with our Power Animals and see what they have to tell us.  Email me for details

In the next few weeks, from a non-judgemental, compassionate place, notice the stories you tell yourself  about perhaps not deserving time off or not being valuable unless you’re pushing and striving. Listen to the words you utter about prosperity, abundance and value. When we continually  affirm that things are difficult, stuck or lacking, that’s exactly what our reality is going to be.

This is an opportunity to plant new seeds of prosperity and value in your life.

At any moment during your day, when faced with a decision or a choice, ask yourself what would be the most valuing thing you could do

Reflect on what or who, in your life is really valuable … now. Your values may have changed.

Ackowledge and appreciate the prosperity you do have in your life

Connect with your own value. If you feel that you, as a human being, aren’t valuable, how much would you accept for your  right hand, or an eye, a leg, your heart, your lungs?.

You get the drift…

Ok? … So… slow down, you valuable, magnificent being and celebrate your life – you deserve to!

And…Happy Mothers Day to all you amazing women out there…!

Lifelight Astrology 20th April 2016

Eagles fighting

This Friday 22nd April, we have a transformational full moon in Scorpio,  a highly complex misunderstood and sometimes feared  sign. What many people don’t understand is that Scorpio has three different symbolic totem associations – the scorpion, who aggressively exercises power through emotion and instinct and will sting you on the foot without a second glance;  the Eagle, who sees all, discerns hidden motives, discovers deeper truths below the surface of life and exercises power through the intellect;  and the Dove of Peace or Phoenix, who  observes compassionately without judgement and exercises power through love,  healing and transformation.

When there is Scorpio energy around, issues around power and powerlessness tend to come spiralling up from the murky waters of the unconscious. There can be fear, there can be conflict, there can be war… and there can be healing!.

This is an interesting full moon because BOTH of Scorpio’s rulers – Mars and Pluto, have just turned retrograde. This only happens with Mars once every two years, so its relatively rare. His retrograde cycle lasts until the 30th June, beginning in Sagittarius and ending in  Scorpio.  Saturn and Jupiter are in also retrograde and Mercury in Taurus will be joining the gang from  30th April until 24th May… joy of joys! Start backing up your data now!

So… we have a strongly Martian / retrograde theme – which are almost diametrically opposed to each other. It’s very much a push pull energy.

Mars is the  masculine planet of forward motion, assertion,  aggression, defence and war. He  determines how we go after our goals, how we meet challenges and how we react in the face of fear or stress. Very often when Mars goes retrograde, things get delayed, we feel irritated (largely because we want to keep moving forward) and the aggravation can lead to anger or even rage, which is stirred up from the depths of our beings. .

As always, there is a reason for this – the planets aren’t out to get us, even if it seems that way sometimes. We’re being given yet another chance to check in with ourselves and this time, to see how we react to stressful, potentially volatile situations.

Most of us are familiar with the  Fight or flight syndrome, when faced with a threat or a stressor.

FIGHT – when we instinctively and impulsively act, attack or defend.  This comes in really handy if we’re being chased by a lion, or we need to jump into survival mode. We’ve all heard stories about women who have suddenly accessed super human strength and lifted cars off their children to save their lives. When we’re in fight mode, adrenaline courses through our veins and we are stronger, faster and potentially more lethal than at any other time.

The problem is, many of us are living in that mode almost constantly – which has resulted in us being an over-stressed, aggressive and volatile society.

FLIGHT –when we turn and run – as fast as possible in the opposite direction.  Other ways that we flee, are by  numbing ourselves out – getting busy, zoning out in front of the tv, reaching for the wine or whisky bottle – anything to just make the issue go away.

FREEZE – a lesser known reaction is the “deer in the headlights” syndrome. When faced with the threat/ aggressor/stressful situation, we just freeze – unable to move or respond in any way.  Sometimes, this is good, because it gives us a moment to assess what’s going on and to re-group. Usually we recover relatively quickly and can then put on the boxing gloves or scamper off.  It becomes problematic when the paralysis continues and we become scared of making the wrong move in our lives, so we  do nothing at all.

FACE – We take some deep breaths and face the situation or the person in a direct, but non-aggressive way.

I’m going to add a 5th option:

FEEL – When somebody or something presses our buttons, we allow first acknowledge the sensations in our body and the feelings that we are feeling, without judgement – breathing at the same time.

And then… when the feelings settle, we decide how we are going to respond.

We all have our automated ways of dealing with fear or stress and this Mars Retrograde (in Sagittarius/Scorpio) challenges us to explore other ways of responding.  If we generally freeze or flee, then we might need to become more assertive. If we tend to fight first and think later, we might need to practice a less confrontational way of protecting or defending ourselves and dealing with our masculine energy.

This is a good time to reflect on some situations in your own life and find out what your patterns are.

This is how I unpacked one experience in my own life, which happened last year whilst helping out at a retreat centre overseas.  When I arrived there, I quickly discovered that the person who ran the place was rather grumpy and somewhat abrasive – not what I expected. As a result, I more or less  kept out of his way, until one morning, when he raged at me in front of the entire team, due to not receiving a telephone message.

The first thing I felt, was the heat rising to my face and that familiar old “kick in the solar plexus”. In an instant, I was right back to being an 8 year old child,  being shouted at by a  a red-faced, rather manic step-father. I  froze… tears prickling in my eyes, rooted to the spot.

Then my  fiery gut instinct kicked in (I have Mars in Leo!)… fight… go to war… give it straight back, in no uncertain terms…take him on… I mean, “how dare he!” But, I’ve been rocking around on this planet for long enough to know that going in with guns blazing does NOT generally work out well in my life, however righteous I might feel at the time.

And then I fled. For the rest of the day, I weeded in the garden like a mad-woman, allowing every conceivable emotion to surface – the anger, the humiliation, the indignation, the unfairness,  (and I can tell you, they were definitely NOT all about him) He had triggered my ‘man” issues in techni-colour.  Later that night, I burnt up the pages of my journal, letting it all out, leaving nothing unsaid, mounting a thorough investigation into the stories I was telling myself. It was quite a night!

When it was all out, I meditated for a while and when I was calm,  I asked myself what the most self- valuing thing I could do, would be. One option was to  get the hell out of there the next morning, another was just to ignore the whole thing as if nothing had happened and the third was to face him. I elected to do the third, because I knew that was  my 8 year old needed me to do.

So… the next morning, I requested a meeting with him, which lasted all of 2 minutes. I sat down opposite him, and clearly, calmly (yes I know, even I was shocked at me) stated that I felt that the way he had handled the situation was not acceptable to me.  And guess what… right there and then, his eyes softened, he said that I was right and asked if I would accept his apology. Here’s the kicker –for the rest of my stay, we got on like a house on friendly fire.  I am, to this day, so grateful for the amazing healing opportunity that his man presented with me with.

And that is, as  I see it, what this full moon in Scorpio is all about. Its an opportunity to feel, investigate,  transform and heal.

The one thing I know for sure is that we can always choose whether we’re  going to go to war or not.  We can also choose whether we’re going to engage with and get involved in other peoples’ drama. I chatted to a dear friend yesterday who said it’s like standing on the edge of a murky dirty, smelly river. We get to choose whether we’re going to plunge into it, or not.

On 21st May, in keeping with this symbolic transformation theme, I’ll be running an Art & Soul workshop,  where we will access and creatively engage with, our Power Animals and see what they have to tell us. Email me for details

I also  have some space left on my SLOW Retreat in the Midlands from 6th to 8th May, where we will spend the whole weekend reveling in the senses (Taurus) and making the most of the retrograde energy by slowing down, reflecting and revitalising.

Lifelight Astrology 13th August – New Moon, Jupiter into Virgo

Moon bag

The big news this week is that Jupiter, the giant planet of expansion, higher learning and opportunity, has completed his  year long journey through fabulous, fiery Leo.  During his time there, many of us have become really excited about new, creative ideas, which we have or haven’t given birth to yet, started (and perhaps not completed) a myriad of projects,  fallen in (and maybe out of love, made (and spent) some money and sent plenty of big-hearted intentions out into the universe.

And now as this huge planet shifts into Virgo, we add a more pragmatic, practical, routined, health-oriented lense to the aspect of growth in our lives.  As you can imagine, big expansive Jupiter, who is associated with the Greek God Zeus, isn’t too crazy about having his wings clipped in the puritanical sign of the Virgin, but if we understand and integrate the energy, the shift can be very helpful indeed.

Think back to September 2003 to September 2004, which was the last time Jupiter journeyed through Virgo. There’s likely to be a thread to, or a similar theme happening in your life now. If you have a copy of your chart, and you know a bit about Astrology, find the house where 1 degree Virgo resides. This will be the area in your life where you need to show real commitment, in order to grow into your next level of your evolution.

This shift has happened while the sun is still in Leo, where he is joined by the moon and Venus on Friday (New moon). With all the retrograde planets around, we’re being given another invitation to reassess our heart-felt ideas and intentions and to re-ignite our flames. At the end of June, (see my blog below for a refresher) Jupiter and Venus danced together in Leo and we connected with our wildest imaginings. Now, many of us have felt that  flame start to flicker, as daily life has once again got in the way of our heartiest intentions.

This new moon, we are being asked to add pragmatism and commitment to the mix, as we start to separate the wheat from the chaff, clear the clutter and make order out of some of the chaos in our lives. (It’s a really good new moon for a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual purge or detox)

Ask yourself again … What do I really, really want in my life? If  I had to do one thing before I died, what would it be? If I had a year left to live, what would I be doing  more of? What is my unique heart song? How can I embrace it and share it?  Am I taking the time necessary to tend my unique flame?

…And if are finding that there isn’t enough time to stoke the fire in your heart, then ask what you can cut and trim from your life, to make more space. Maybe it’s time for some of your old dreams and wishes to be re-visited, in order to establish whether they’re still relevant and worthy of your energy, or for those some extraneous tasks or commitments to be cleared away, to make room for the new.

If you’ve had a creative idea bubbling inside you for a while, this is the week to write it down and schedule time to commit to it on a regular basis – daily if possible. If your intention is to get fit or to lose weight, or get more supple, then this is the week to start and commit to that new eating or exercise plan. If you feel that you’re a bit stale creatively, or are in dire need of fun, then get serious about having some fun – this week actually schedule fun into your calendar.

This quote was very timeously sent to me by my friend and amazing Life Coach,  Liz Witherspoon the other day – thanks Liz.  It says it all.

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth; the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.

Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.” William Goethe

Lifelight Astrology Update – Scorpio Full Moon 14th May

Full moon Scorpio

Tomorrow the 14th May we have a full moon in Scorpio – which means that she’s opposite the sun in Taurus – Taurus is all about hanging onto security and the status quo and Scorpio is about transforming and changing – bit of a tug of war, what! In addition to this, we still have a loose grand cross, the moon is in very close proximity to stodgy, serious, Saturn… and Mars, the planet which rules forward motion is approaching a complete stand-still before he finally turns direct on the 19th . Eish!

So…  To put it simply, this really isn’t  a full moon where we’re likely to feel like we’re forging ahead and taking the world by storm. In fact, many of us feel as if trying  to move anything forward right now is a bit like pushing a giant boulder up a very steep and slippery hill.

So what’s is all about? I wish I had the answers, but  the theme for me I think is “To resist or not to resist – that is the question”.  As the theme of transformation continues, unabated, our  limitations,  deepest fears and old conditioned thought patterns are up for investigation…yes again or still, depending on where you are.   We’re being urged to invite them in, to feel them, to stop resisting them and in so doing, to hopefully usher in a deeper sense acceptance and therefore freedom.  Carl Jung wrote the phrase “What you resist not only persists, but will grow in size”, when he found that the more patients resisted shadow aspects of themselves, the more those parts grew, eventually sometimes fracturing their psyches.

Interestingly, some synonyms for the word “resistance” are fighting, opposition, battle, hiding, denying, blocking, combat, struggle.

I think the reason so many of us feel that we’re in a state of struggle is that we spend so much of our time resisting reality,  or the present moment. Even if we resist a past or future moment, memory or projection, we can still only resist it now. Resistance is like trying to hold a giant beach ball under the water. It takes a LOT of energy and eventually the thing is going to pop up onto the surface anyway.

When we stop resisting whatever it is we don’t want or like, be it emotional discomfort, fear or aspects of ourselves that we dislike, we free up a huge amount of energy to do what we do want.

The penny’s finally beginning to drop for me that the first step to loving ourselves completely and I believe finding peace, is accepting everything (the “good”, the “bad” and the “ugly” ) and resisting nothing. I’m realising that the more I resist or try to control anything, the more tired, frustrated, angry and resentful I become and the more of a struggle life is. When I resist something, I’m judging it, saying its not right and separating myself from it. At that point there is duality and struggle begins. However, when I make a conscious choice to stop, breathe and accept whatever it is, I feel peaceful… in that moment.

The irony of life is that the one sure thing is that everything is going to change, yet we spend so much of our vital energy trying to ensure that it doesn’t. Dropping resistance is choosing acceptance and change. It doesn’t mean that we have to become whimps and relinquish our desires and dreams or stay in situations that we have the power to change. It simply means that if we accept the here and now, and stop being completely attached to controlling the outcome, we are able respond creatively and calmly to whatever unfolds.

The work I do is largely focused around assisting clients to connect with where they are right now, to feel into it, question the stories that their minds are telling them and then to find a more truthful and positive way forward.  The first step is usually a comprehensive astrology reading, which is often followed by one or more  personal creative coaching sessions and/or  a group workshop. If you’re stuck in any area of your life, this is a very potent time astrologically to get to the bottom of whatever’s holding you back.  Drop me a line and we can discuss the options michellemcclunan@gmail.com

With the Sun moving into Gemini in a week’s time, the focus will be shifting to our thoughts, our core beliefs, what we are thinking and communicating.  I will be running two Art & Soul workshops (7th and 21st June) to help  get to grips with our
core beliefs  and changing the stories we tell ourselves.  Click  here for details

Happy excavating and roll on Mars going direct on the 19th May
