LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 3 AUGUST 2017

THE ECLIPSE SEASON HAS ARRIVED!

lightning moon

We are now fully entering eclipse season, with a lunar eclipse or FULL moon on  7th August in Aquarius. This will be followed by a solar eclipse on the 21st August, which I’ll write more about next time.

Let’s look at this one first. As we all know, full moon energy is always powerful, but eclipses are  even more so, as they happen in sets and have longer lasting effects.

This eclipse season relates back to August 1998, so reflect back on what was happening for you then. Chances are, there will be common themes at play!.

The ruler of this eclipse is Uranus, bringer of thunderbolts and lightening,  designed to get us to remove our heads from our  butts… stop… look around and see the bigger picture.

With Mars right next to the sun, we are provided with some extra vooma, to clean out any cobwebs and boot us out of any comfort zones we may have become ensconced in. The thing about comfort zones, is that they usually aren’t all that comfortable!! They’re just familiar and tend to keep us exactly where we are, doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results – the definition of insanity, according to Mr Einstein.

SO, If you want something different in your life, what are you prepared to change?

This moon full moon will shine her light on anything in our lives which makes us feel small,  constricted or boxed in, bringing the rebel, the revolutionary, the quirky one out of the closet. She will also bring with her, brilliant out-the-box, intuitive ideas, for those of us who take some time to listen.  It’s a stimulating moon, encouraging us to look deeper, shining a bright blue laser truth serum into those dark rutty corners and ferreting out all the lies we’ve been telling ourselves, for… oh… so long. Also paraded in the line-up will be the parts of ourselves and areas of our lives where we keep breaking promises to ourselves.

You know… those things that we consistently moan about, tell ourselves we’re going to change…. And then do absolutely nothing about?  Well, they are being ousted – exposed in the bare light of this full moon, with nowhere to hide.

And there – right there, just as soon as they are exposed, we need to take ourselves gently by the hand and ask why – why when we know something isn’t good for us, do we do it?  Or, when we know something is good for us, why don’t we do it?

Saturn is forming positive flowing aspects to this full moon, helping us to see exactly how we sabotage ourselves and how often we are our own worst enemies.

The truth is, if we really, truly believed we were valuable, wouldn’t we treat ourselves as such?

It all starts there really!

This full moon, ask yourself what ONE THING you can do to bring about change in your life.

On the day of the eclipse, sit quietly and write a list of whatever  you really, really, really want to let of for once and for all, the sabotaging patterns you want to send hurtling into the ethers, the habits that no longer serve you.  And then put the date on the page and sign it.

Go outside if you can and start to burn the paper. As you do so, make a statement something like this  “I release this……. Now”.  Once it has turned to ash, blow the ashes away into the light of the moon.

Mercury will be turning retrograde on 13th August, so back all your data, check travel arrangements and contracts before you sign them.

See you in  a few weeks for the great big SOLAR ECLIPSE

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 14TH SEPTEMBER

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 14TH SEPTEMBER

War or Peace

There are some strong themes in the heavens right now,  which suggest  that positive change is afoot.

LUNAR ECLIPSE

On Friday 16th September, we will have a lunar eclipse, following on from the solar eclipse on the 1st September. It’s a bit like we’re in the birth canal, where something new is about to be born, but we still need a few more hefty pushes.

A lunar eclipse happens  when the moon (feminine) is eclipsed by the Sun (Masculine). With this one, the sun is still in organised (male) Virgo, while the moon is in  (feminine) oceanic, free-flowing Pisces. But there’s more… our lunar lady is  swimming  gill-to- gill with Chiron the wounded healer and kick boxing with Mars in Sagittarius.

So… what this means in English, is that this Eclipse  is rather a wing dinger, where old wounds (and anger)  around male domination of women could be triggered. If you read deeper into this… it also means the triggering of anger within us, particularly if we honour  the masculine over the feminine, paying more attention to what we’re achieving, to the intellect, than to our inner workings.

When I feel into the energy of the eclipse, it reminds me a little of a  pressure cooker, which we need to keep an eye on, lest that pressure rise to a point where the lid pops right off!

Leading up to, during and after this eclipse, give yourself permission to process any residual or obvious irritation or anger and find a way of letting off some steam.  Anger often rises when the masculine and feminine  within us are polarised… when we’re not listening to our inner voices, when we’re disconnected from our souls.

We’re being urged right now in a big way, to really listen to what our bodies our telling us (Virgo), to connect with the feminine emotions that are simmering underneath the surface (Pisces) and to intuitively (rather than intellectually)  move towards our goals (Mars in Sagittarius).

…which  leads me to the next big planetary happening:

Drum roll please!

JUPITER HAS JUST ENTERED LIBRA

For the past year, Jupiter the planet of growth and expansion has been travelling through earthy grounded Virgo, along with the North Node of the moon. The energy of Jupiter is expansive, curious, optimistic and enthusiastic. It wants to travel, grow, learn, enjoy life and shoot its arrows towards the stars. When it’s in Virgo, it feels a tad boxed in to say the least.  During the last year, many of us have realised that the big bold creative ideas we had when Jupiter was in Leo (July 2014 to August 2015)    require routine and dedication and that Rome really wasn’t built in a day… Damn!  The  saying “Chop wood, carry water”  comes to mind. Necessary, but not entirely easy.

This is all rather humbling and very often, at this point, the “dreams” are put in the bottom drawer, as we feel overwhelmed, incompetent or incapable of moving forward with them.

And now, our planet of expansion has finally moved into peace-loving, beauty seeking, social, relationship-orientated  Libra. …it’s a bit like a breath of fresh air, which we will probably start to feel after the eclipse.  It will hopefully bring some lightness to the mix and in the next year, we should see growth, expansion and opportunities  in the Venusian areas of life –  love,  money, creativity, art, relationships, social contact, beauty, peace. … Yes Please!

Where ever Libra sits in your birth chart is where you can expect this kind of growth and opportunity.  If you think back to 12 years ago, when Jupiter was was last in Libra, you might get an idea of what’s in store for the next year.

Historically,  Jupiter moving into Libra has often come hand in hand with peace initiatives and lucrative trade agreements. World War II ended days after Libra entered Libra in 1945. On other occasions, according to astrologers specialising in that kind of thing,  the Oslo accord and the Strategic Arms Treaty were signed and SA abandoned it’s Nuclear Weapons programme. Let’s all hold the hope that there will be more of the same in the year to come.

Jupiter’s move also coincides with the ending of the heavy Saturn Neptune square which has had us all in its grip this year. So, here’s hoping the veil starts to lift a bit and that some clarity begins to peak out from behind those  Neptunian Clouds, so we can begin to birth the new.

Check out my new workshops in September and October, when we will be working with these themes. Email me for details if you’re not on my newsletter list.

Lifelight Astrology – Welcome to the New Year

Witness

Sun in Aries / Lunar Eclipse in Libra 23rd March

What are your intentions for this astrological year?

Did any of you feel the energy shift a little yesterday, as Mercury and then the Sun moved from Pisces into Aries?  A glimmer of light perhaps … shining through the water? With all the Piscean energy that’s been around of late, there’s been much  wading through deep waters for many, with old wounds, fears, entanglements and ancient issues drifting up to the surface from the musty corners of our individual and collective psyches.  This is true too of our beloved country South Africa, as skeletons have been virtually leaping out of every conceivable political closet… exposing dem bones, for all to see.

For me personally, I’ve been feeling as if I’ve been submerged beneath the water without so much as a headlamp, rather than simply wading through the shallows in my trusty gumboots. Over the past weeks, the more I’ve tried to push things to happen, the more things have s l o w e d  d o w n. Technical equipment has giving up the ghost; data has disappeared into the ethers; I’ve been dogged by fogginess, confusion, weariness, and sadness at times. Things have been basically…. as clear as mud!. The only time I have found any relief or clarity is when I’ve stopped, stepped away from the noise,   tuned inwards and connected with my soul through imagery, art, music, meditation and when all else fails… sleep –( all Piscean themes by the way)

And then… yesterday… the fog started to clear a little. I began to see glimmers of light and even experienced moments of sharp clarity. Ideas that have been incubating for months, started to come more into focus. I started to see how the emotions I’ve been processing over the past few weeks have been showing me where my life is out of balance and giving me clues as to how to move forward. The fog hasn’t entirely cleared (there’s still Pisces energy around), but I’ve realised (once again) that it is in the place of surrender and un-knowing, that the seeds of new intentions are formed and that we need to allow them to, , without forcing them to sprout before they’re ready.

We as a human race find it hard though, to surrender and so we rail against those moments or weeks or months where nothing seems to be “working” out there …but it is….it’s just working beneath the surface and we can’t see it yet!

This has all been another huge reminder for me to tune into the cycles, rather than fighting them.     I mean, imagine if the sea said “No I’m done with all this ebbing….I just want to flow… all the time”  Or… what if the moon said “ I’m really not into the waning thing…. Let me just wax and wax. Get bigger and bigger!.”  Or the worm said “ I’m sick of this cocoon… think  I’ll bust outta here now?”  Or  what if we decided to just stop sleeping…. I mean, who wants to “waste” 8 hours of precious time?

I know this all sounds crazy, but really, if you think about it… we do this all the time, when we fight the rhythms and cycles of nature.

So now, we have finally started a new cycle. A new year. The sun has entered Aries and on the 23rd March, he will oppose the moon in Libra to form a full moon, which is also a lunar eclipse. This is the last in a series of eclipses on the Aries/ Libra axis, which began in October 2013. It’s a good idea to take a few moments and reflect on what was happening then.  Whatever’s coming up for you now will probably  be connected to that.

Fiery, pioneering  Aries is all about setting new intentions, starting new projects, wanting to impulsively, passionately move forward towards the goals we have for ourselves, towards our true potential. Sometimes this energy can be impetuous, impatient and even aggressive.  This is where the moon in Libra comes in to the picture. She is strong too, but is more concerned with relationship,  co-operation, balance, beauty and harmony. This is a great full moon to look at your life and connect with how you can introduce more balance and temperance and where you can co-operate more with yourself and others. (this can be found at 3 degrees of Libra and Aries in your chart, if you have one)

The sun is sitting right next to Mercury (which rules communication) right now, so be sure to take some deep breaths before you retaliate verbally in the next few days. Tempers are likely to be aroused, so… breathe and count to ten.

Full moons (and lunar eclipses) always expose the polarities that reside in our lives and in our psyches. When we study astrology, we learn key words associated with each sign. I’ve listed some below for Aries (first) and Libra (second)

Self                                                                                        Others

Pushing forward; Drive; Decisiveness                       Paralysis; Indecisiveness; fence sitting

Assertiveness / confrontation/ aggression             Pleasing others/ co-operation

Temper/ Impatience                                                       Temperance / Patience

Striving                                                                               Balance

Independence                                                                   Interdependence/ co-dependance

Aloneness                                                                           Partnership/ relationship

Questions to ask this full moon:

  • Which of these polarities can you relate to and do they connect to October 2013?
  • What emotions or issues have washed up on the beach of your soul/ been exposed over the few weeks and the past year?
  • Do these show you where your life might be out of balance?
  • What new ideas have been incubating/ formulating in your unconscious?
  • How can you move forward with them?
  • Where can you co-operate more with yourself and others?
  • Based on these learnings, what new intentions would you like to set for the new year?

Probably the best way we can deal with polarities is to find the centre point, which helps us to hold a space for both sides of the scale. In meditation, when we notice the monkey mind, we are advised to compassionately bring it back to the breath or the mantra. We are not supposed to chase the poor thing down and beat it to death.  And so it is with polarities. We notice them… aahhh yes… there’s that old story/ pattern of sadness or aloneness or victimhood, or fear or hopelessness. And then gently as we would guide a small child away from danger, we take it by the hand and bring it to safety. Back to the centre, which is the point where we find balance, peace and harmony –  the theme for this full moon. It’s from that place that we are able to set heart-felt inspired intentions.

Please see below or click here to find out about my Inspired Intention Workshops in April. Even if you’ve done this workshop before, it is worth doing again, because as we know, all things are in a constant state of flux, so it won’t be the same as last time.  Also see below  for info on my Autumn retreat in May – an opportunity for you to slow down and connect in the exquisite Natal Midlands.

If you’re unsure of your intentions for the New Year or where you’re headed, consider booking a coaching session with me and we’ll fish it out of the depths.

I found this image at the top of this blog  a few weeks ago. What does it mean to you? Please comment if anything comes up for you! I’d love to hear!

Here’s to a New Year filled with Inspired Intention!

Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse – 28th September – This is a biggie!

blood moon trees

Well here we are, drawing closer and closer  to the Supermoon or blood moon on  27th / 28th September … “the” date that has got millions of people worldwide into a bit of a tizz. You only have to trawl around a bit on the internet, and you will find heaps of stuff  predicting all manner of things… to name a few…  he  end of the world as we know it (again); the Apocalypse; the date when Mother earth will finally let rip, after all the abuses we have hurled at her, the Polar Shift,  the World Economy crashing, the collapse of the energy grid, resulting in 3 days of darkness… and a lot more besides. Whew!  Makes you want to hide under the duvet!

On the brighter side, the news in spiritually based circles,  is that  this is the first wave of Ascension, the Second Coming, that our DNA is changing to crystalline and / or that roughly a third of the population is ascending into 5th dimension consciousness.

The truth is, nobody really knows.

What we do know though, is that this is one wing dinger of a full moon. Firstly, it’s a  supermoon, which is when the moon is so close to the earth that it appears about 14 times larger than a normal full moon. This isn’t all that rare on its own,  but  for the first time in 33 years,  this super moon it will coincide with a total lunar eclipse, which is a big deal.  A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the full moon and the sun. The Earth’s shadow covers the moon, giving it a reddish colour. We all know that Full Moons are always powerful, but obviously this one is more so. An eclipse’s effects can be felt from anywhere up to 2 years. This is a lovely short  little video showing this phenomenon.

Now, lets look at this  Full moon more closely. Being in  fiery, passionate, impulsive, impatient Aries, this is a time when we become more  “me” centred, when we want to leap in and shift the status quo, when we become impatient with the things that aren’t working and are fired up to change them. Now here’s the rub… The ruler of Aries is Mars and Mars right now is not a very happy chap. First of all, he has just moved into Virgo, which is quite cautious and pedantic, going against the very essence of Mars, who wants to get things moving… and now!  However, with this alignment, we are being cautioned  to look before we leap, wait, think, rationalise and do things properly. And then there’s Saturn the father of the zodiac, who is squaring Mars. This energy is a bit like a hand-brake. For many of us, it feels like we’re taking  one step forward and three back. Again, Mars wants to confront, sort things out for once and for all, but the older, wiser, more mature part of us is saying “Not yet!” .

Lastly, Mars is opposing Neptune, which can add a layer of lethargy, confusion, powerlessness, victim-hood to the already rather rocky landscape. Most South Africans will relate to the term NAAFI. … That’s what this energy is like. Just sitting down to write this newsletter has been like pulling teeth.

The area  you will feel that you want change to occur; where anger might be brewing, or where you sense something from your past resurfacing, will be the  house that contains 4 degrees Aries. It will be even more potent if it touches an important point in your chart, but we will all feel it.

As always though, these planetary events are not there to just give us a hard time. They are always opportunities to learn, grow, evolve, love and get even more real and authentic.

The Neptune component of this full moon can be viewed as the Spiritual Warrior. It can activate healing, help with the release of anger and elevate our spiritual connection, dream life, imagination and creativity… if we let it.  Mars in Virgo can help us to see what we need  to do to improve our health – on all levels, and where we can serve ourselves and others more effectively. Saturn can assist us in being more mature when faced with adversity and help us to avoid going off pop at the drop of a hat.

From my perspective, here are some ways to deal with this eclipse and this season  of change that we are experiencing:

  • Spend more time focussing on what’s going on inside you, than outside.
  • Connect with what’s coming up emotionally, especially anger and ask what its prompting  you to do
  • Pay careful attention to your thoughts and where you’re sending your energy
  • Ask what, in your life, really needs to change and set that as a clear intention.
  • Connect with what brings you joy and do it.
  • Ask what you really, really want for your life.
  • Find things every day that you are grateful for and focus energy there.
  • Help somebody else who is worse off than you (Mars in Virgo = service to self and others)
  • See somebody else’s point of view
  • Breathe, surrender

It is all exactly the way it’s supposed to be.

Blessings

Michelle

Lifelight Astrology April 2015 – Blood Moon

Judge break heart

April kicks off with (yet another) Eclipse on the 4th, this following the total solar eclipse two weeks ago.  This one is a Lunar Eclipse (full moon) which is activating the final Uranus Pluto Square. It is also the last in a string of four  “blood moons”, a phenomenon that has been written about a lot on the internet for the past few years.

Some people are seeing this as the shift of all shifts, some as the end of the world as we know it. Others are viewing it as the end of the age of Pisces and the real beginning of the Age of  Aquarius. Whatever it is and whatever is going to happen or not happen, nobody really knows, quite frankly. However, a lot of people are filled with the fear of the unknown and focussing on the “what ifs”.  There certainly seems to be a kind of a quickening – a growing unease with the status quo and an “it’s now or never” sense of urgency.   I have very little doubt that we are at a radical turning point in our history and can only hope that this is going to shift us into a dimension of higher consciousness.   Whatever is going to happen, we need to be very very present indeed.

In March, as the sun journeyed through Pisces, a whole lot of stuff was dredged up from the depths of our beings, either through  conscious investigation and growing awareness, or by  people and life situations, which pushed our buttons relentlessly (which may still be happening for many of you.  Whatever the trigger, we’ve been more or less forced to look deeper and ask the really big questions, from  “Am I in the right job, relationship, house, country” …to  “What is my purpose?  What is my value system… now… really? What do I stand for?  Am I living authentically? What’s really important now… at this stage of my life?”

Having asked these questions, some answers are starting to appear and now, as the sun makes his way through Aries,  it’s about integrating what we’ve found and starting to plant brand new seeds of  inspired, heart-based intention and activity.  (see below or email me for info on Inspired Intention Workshops, Law of Attraction and Tree Workshops  in April – Johannesburg and Durban)

The lunar Eclipse on the 4th April is in Libra, along with the north node of the moon, which gives us an indication of  how we can best navigate these turbulent waters and  where we are supposed to be heading as a human race.  What  we need to be focussing our attention on, is real peace, love, balance, harmony, co-operation and integration . We’re being called upon to be peaceful warriors, to take our visions and turn them into something worthwhile, whilst working with and co-operating with others.

Being in Libra, the focus is very much on relationships, but for me, this isn’t only about love relationships or the connections we have with other people. Its also about our relationship with money,  possessions, our bodies, expectations, thoughts, addictions, emotions, beliefs,  work,  home and  our planet.  Everything is connected, so we’re all in relationship with everything all the time, whether we like it or not.

And then… there’s the  most important relationship of all – the one we have with ourselves.  As the Dali Lama said, “We can never make peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves”

I read something last night that really resonated with me – right in the middle of my being:

“Every time you  judge yourself, you break your own heart” Swami Kripalu

Wow! We are past- masters at breaking our own hearts. I’m sometimes horrified at how I find myself talking to myself and how other people  talk to themselves.

Think about how often you judge yourself, beat yourself up for  making an error,  not being perfect,  saying too much or too little; for being  too emotional or too hard;  too reactive, too depressive, too loud, too thin, too fat. .. and the list goes on. Have you noticed what happens when you give someone a compliment?  How many people are able to just gracefully receive it and say “thank you?  Most of the time, we rush to demolish the kind words someone has said to us.  Why? Do we think that’s being humble?  Actually it’s  rude and disrespectful to  them and us, when you really think about it.

What if each of us started treating ourselves as we would  a precious and valued friend, child, parent or lover? How would our lives change?   What if we became the peaceful warriors that the world so desperately needs, by  starting to co-operate with ourselves?. What if we started being patient and gentle with ourselves, irrespective of our apparent “flaws”? What if, when we messed up, we focussed on nurturing ourselves, rather than beating ourselves half to death?

Here’s what I’ve been doing for some time and it’s really helped me.  When I find myself messing up… let’s say I break a plate or something. As soon as I notice the tightness in my body and the judgemental mind leaping in to tell me how clumsy I am, that I should have been more careful blah blah blah… I STOP.  At that very moment, I take myself by the hand and start gently speaking to myself as I would speak to my child.  Yes, I know… it would seem rather batty if someone was eavesdropping, but whatever!  My conversation goes along the lines of “ Its ok Sweetie. It’s just a plate. Let’s go outside and stand in the sun for a while or have a cup of tea. We can clean this up later.”  Straight away, the tightness starts to diminish and the story I would normally have told myself, ends right there, instead of ruining my day.

Every time we are able to  show up and simply love ourselves,  regardless of what’s going on,  we are actively re-programming negative core beliefs. As always, love is the answer to everything.

I read a fascinating article a few  months back, where research was done on drug- addicted rats. The rats were moved out of horrible little cages, to a wonderful Rat Park (filled with swings, rat wheels and climbing things – rat heaven I guess). Plain water was put in one container in Rat Park and water containing heroin was put in another.  Due to the happier environment, the rats started choosing the plain water, rather than the drug infused water, even though they had the choice.  Love and nurturing were the only drugs they needed.

So what I am seeing in these times, this month, is a Universal call for peace  and that peace starts within our own hearts.  Please let’s stop breaking them and start healing them –then and only then can our planet heal.

“Every time you judge yourself, you break your own heart. You stop feeding on the love that is the wellspring of your vitality.  The time has come. Your time. To live, to celebrate, and to see the goodness that you are. You, my child, are divine. You are pure. You are sublimely free. You are God in disguise, and you are always perfectly safe. Do not fight the dark, just turn on the light, and breathe into the goodness that you are.” Swami Kripalu

Lifelight Astrology Update 15 October – Last quarter Moon

DSC_1060

Well here we are, pretty much slap bang in the middle of two eclipses – the lunar eclipse (full moon) of the 8 October and the upcoming Solar Eclipse (new moon) in Scorpio on  24 October. This period has been compared to being in a birth canal and that sure is how if feels for me, as things inch very slooooowllly along. Today particularly, we have a last quarter moon, which is always a bit of a crisis in consciousness anyway and this one is caught up in a Grand Cross formation, with Pluto and Uranus, which seems even more uncomfortable than usual.  It’s as if we’re being held in a holding pattern whilst we reassess everything. On the one hand there’s a feeling of discomfort with the status quo and on the other, there’s a lack of motivation to do anything about it, or a feeling that when we do, not a whole lot happens.

As when a baby is in the birth canal, or a sprout is getting ready to emerge from a seed, this really isn’t the best time to be pushing and struggling and resisting, because it ain’t gonna  do one bit of good. As with any new birth, you kinda have to wait until it’s ready to emerge.

Looking at next week’s new moon  in Scorpio, we need to go beyond the normal surface layers now, challenge  the norms and shift our perceptions. This is what we’re being called to do personally and collectively.

We can all use this relatively  non-productive time to get rid of the clutter in our lives and psyches, in order to make way for new growth. If you feel that you aren’t moving forward in your life, there’s probably some blockage somewhere. You might need to talk to someone about how you feel, or write  down the thoughts that are swilling around in your head, do some process art 🙂 ;  or a physical detox or actually clear out any unnecessary stuff in your home or workplace. Your soul may be crying out for some exfoliating and nurturing before you go flying into your next outward endeavour. Let the ideas emerge like sprouts, in their own sweet time.

Yesterday, I was feeling well and truly stuck and my ever practical Taurean friend, Ev, seeing that my beautiful roses were starting to drop, suggested that I cut the stems off and  put them in a bowl of water. This one action turned out to be a real eye opener and spanner for me…. Thanks Ev.

First of all, as I cut those stems off and threw them into the garden to return to the earth, it felt as if I had ridden myself of some of the the dead wood inside me that was draining my life force.

Placing the roses one by one,  in a bowl of water felt incredibly nurturing.  As the tiny stems seeped in the water, the blooms opened up even more and probably because they are being held by the feminine nurturing of the water, they have stopped dropping their petals for now.

Today, they are even more beautiful than they were yesterday– just as they are, patiently accepting this stage of their lives and awaiting the next step, whilst they continue to provide me and my home with colour and beauty a while longer.

And lastly, the roses look completely different in the bowl than they did in the vase, just as we do and life does when we shift and expand our perspective.

Nature is such an amazing teacher and Life really is full of lessons if we just open our eyes and hearts.  See my November Art & Soul Workshops below – My Life as a Tree – so excited about this one. If you are on my blog page, email me for details on michellemcclunan@gmail.com

Some questions to ask yourself this week.

What’s the dead wood you need to cut out of your life?

How can you be more nurturing and accepting of yourself?

Can you shift your perspective and see yourself and your life in a different way

Can you allow yourself to just be – here – now.

In life and light

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY OCTOBER 2013

The Divine Romance

By Michelle McClunan

fiberdance

As usual, the Universe has been conspiring to provide me with exactly the material I need for October’s newsletter.  After a long, dry winter in Natal, I was feeling a little arid myself, tired, cranky and creatively somewhat stuck. So, I made a decision to head to Knysna for a short holiday with one of my oldest and dearest friends, on the beautiful farm she stays on. My head was shrieking at me… stay at home and “do, do, do”… but for once, I opted to listen to my heart and just  “be, be, be”.
One week later, after lots of hearty meals, afternoon snoozes, chats around cozy log fires, art making, walks in nature, a paddle down the Goukamma river, communing with donkeys, cats, dogs and other assorted flying, walking, buzzing beings, we’re both slowly starting to sense a quickening … a rustle of energy here… a flutter of excitement there… the first flush of enthusiasm… as the slightly submerged life spark slowly starts to ignite the fire of passion that resides deep within us… a little like falling in love actually. By slowing down, nurturing ourselves and allowing ourselves to “be”,  we’ve been strengthening our inner female; softening and becoming more receptive, so that she can provide her inner male with a warm, fertile place to land, penetrate and light the spark of new birth.  We’ve started to accept the differences and needs of our masculine and our feminine and to integrate the two.  Jung called this individuation, the alchemical transformation process of the personality into spiritual gold. And that is exactly what the astrology for the end of September and much of October is all about (see what I mean about the Universe conspiring?).  Mars in Leo (Driven, active, creative male energy) is at loggerheads with Venus in Scorpio (Passionate, intense, transformative female energy).  The Sun in Libra steps in to help bring about peace, harmony and balance through integration.  The New moon in Libra on 5th and the Lunar Eclipse in Aries on the 19th further reinforce the theme. The Uranus Pluto square becomes exact again at the end of October, so we will need to be as integrated and balanced as possible, to stay centred amidst ongoing personal and global change.
When the masculine and feminine within us is out of balance, you can bet your bottom Zimbabwean dollar that we’re going to project the lack of harmony we feel onto others, which can only lead to tension, aggression and conflict.  This is basically what’s happening in Western Society, which to a large degree, praises male energy and quashes the feminine. When last did someone ask you how you were really feeling on the inside? Usually the first thing we ask is what you’ve been “up” to, how much you’ve achieved and what you’ve been doing ‘out there in the world’.  And so, in an attempt to be seen in the eyes of the world as successful, we favour and strengthen the masculine and downplay the feminine. The problem is, whatever we’re oppressing, rejecting, judging or withholding has to have an effect on the opposite. Hard as we might try to keep them apart, the masculine and feminine within us can never be separated – they are woven into the very fabric that is us.Let’s look at the archetypal male and female qualities that are found within us all, so we can get an idea of what might need some tweaking. Give whatever is more active in your life 1 point and then add up either column to see which one is more dominant at the moment.

If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, brittle, filled to the brim with busyness, rational ideas, lists and strategies, but have difficulty in manifesting them into anything tangible, your inner male is probably running the show.If you’re feeling hyper emotional, heavy, lethargic, confused, stagnant or unable to move forward, your inner female is wearing the pants. What’s probably needed is a good dose of active, animating male energy to hoof her out of her sludge.
Here’s an example of how the dance can play out. We feel a pain, ache or discomfort. An awareness arises within us that we need to pause, nurture, turn inward, slow down and relax. Society and survival say “No way Jose – keep trucking – what about the rent?”  So we march on like true little soldiers… firing off a relentless stream of busy little idea sperms into the world.  If we can just push a little harder, succeed a little more, be more disciplined, more focused, then we’ll feel secure and things will be just dandy.  In the war we wage on the world, the feminine side of us gets relegated to the sidelines like ugly floral wallpaper as we continue to climb our ‘oh so important’ mountains.
And then suddenly, the earth shifts and we feel ourselves slipping … an accident, illness, retrenchment, break-up or some situation arises that more or less brings us to our knees.  We have no choice.  We stop because we have to… our thirsty souls have designed it that way.  We spend time being, nurturing, replenishing, listening, renewing and softening, so that when that little sperm cell comes a’cruisin’, it finds a soft fertile place to land. And then, it’s a lot like a love story… that first flush of romance when we feel special and cherished, we start to remember the things we once loved about ourselves; sparkling new ideas start to appear as if out of a fog; the life spark that we thought may have been lost forever starts to ignite. We start to feel capable, grounded, confident, ready to commit to this new unconditionally loving Divine Romance and dance the dance of life.
What’s the status of your inner marriage? Does your male have a nurturing place to come home to?  Do you tell each other how much you love each other or snipe at each other?  Do you appreciate your differences and love each other anyway, like you did in the beginning?  Do you still cherish you?  Are you faithful to you?  Do you buy you flowers, write you love letters, stick to the vows you make to yourself?  Is your marriage bed sacred or do you allow creepy characters to threaten its sanctity?  What if you were to fall in love with all of you again and commit to yourself in Holy Matrimony?
