New Moon November – Jewels from the Depths

Scorp moon big.jpg

New Moon November 7th, sets the scene for the month ahead, so even if you miss it, this may be worth reading.

The upcoming New Moon is deeply intense, transformational and healing, being in Scorpio – a feminine, fixed water sign and trine to Neptune (mystical, magical,  healer of the unconscious and ruler of our dreamworld)  On the same day, Uranus moves back into Aries (from Taurus), opposes Venus and squares the nodal axis.  And lastly, Jupiter travels through the 29th degree of Scorpio, before he moves into Sagittarius. Final degrees are always known as a critical point on the wheel.  I explored Jupiter in Scorpio here

That’s a lot of astrology, I know… so I’ll try and break it down!

SCORPIO – INTO THE DEPTHS

Scorpio energy is always intense, focused, intimate and penetrative – interested not in superficiality, but rather in what lies beneath the surface. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation. Both the sign and the planet are often referred to as the Plumbers of the Zodiac, so this is the time of the year when those plumbing rods need to be sent down into darker, shadowy parts of our psyches to clear out the pipes.   I find it interesting to note how many people are experiencing flu-like/ mucous-filled symptoms right now (fixed water), or water issues in the home – which seem to be difficult to shift.  This new moon seems like the purge we need.

THE SHADOW

Whether we like it or not, we all have parts of ourselves that we don’t like much…  shadow selves – the things we fear, self-doubts, denials, raging emotions.  Very often we are taught to repress the shadow, or are told that it is somehow unacceptable or “un-spiritual”, if there’s even such a thing!

We’re generally encouraged to embrace the light, not the dark!  This New Moon can lead us  through the darker, hidden sides of ourselves and into healing, if we let her.  We really cannot go forward, until we have faced whatever is buried within us and what is holding us back. If we do have the courage to explore beneath the surface, we might find that our  inner conflicts become our greatest strengths. At this time of the year astrologically, we are  urged to heal the unresolved issues about who we really are  (at the deepest level) and what we truly want to be.  This is transformation and life will effectively provide us with ample opportunities to work with it right now.

Some of you might feel a curtain go down at the thought of that. You might even be tempted to stop reading.

But before you leave…this doesn’t mean we have to hang out in the shadows forever or soak ourselves in the stagnant water!  Rather, it’s a call to connect with the wise observer, explore a bit and see what’s hiding there. If you do this, you might find that you bring to light some real jewels. It’s a very powerful time to investigate your dreams (Neptune) or your current life circumstances symbolically  and/or creatively!

HOW DO WE WORK WITH THIS?

There are many ways of doing this, but here’s one – a personal example, which is happening in my life right now:

On the superficial or mundane level, over the past year, with Jupiter (my personal chart ruler) moving through Scorpio, and Saturn opposing my Sun (in Cancer – the sign of the home), I’ve experienced a series of seriously challenging issues regarding my home/property, amongst which have been without doubt, the most awful tenants I’ve ever had.  They have finally left the property (happy dance) and new people have arrived.  All clear?  Nope! – even though I am very eager to clear their stagnant energy and start afresh, there’s now an issue with a boat… yes… a boat!  My delightful ex-tenants decided, in all their infinite wisdom to haul a great big ugly-ass boat down the steepest driveway in Hillcrest and now they can’t get it out!

What do I do with this and why even mention it?  It’s just life right?  Trivial even?   Well yes… but for me, viewing things like this symbolically makes life richer and more rewarding. Even though this is a frustrating life event, which I would dearly like to disappear forever, I decided to work it and drill down to explore it more.  So yesterday, after waking from a rather emotionally unsettling dream, which started stirring the waters to reveal a whole tribe of feelings – ranging from abandonment, fear to insecurity  (emotions emerging from the unconscious), I decided to write it all down in my trusty, ever faithful, non-judgement journal,  a practice which I wholeheartedly recommend.

THE BOAT

Well… there it was… the ugly ass boat came creeping onto the page and when I dug a little more, by asking some very obvious questions, rather a lot was revealed. When working like this, don’t assume you know the answer. Take the time to write it down and let the answer emerge. You can use this process to decode your dreams too.

This was the gist of it.  I  have been, and intend to go, even deeper than this, but I’m sharing the basics with you.

Q: What is a boat? A: It’s a vehicle which transports you though water

Q What is water symbolically  A: For me it represents emotion, often unconscious

Q: Where is the boat? A: It’s stuck on land (out of it’s element) at the bottom of my driveway, in my garden.

And a bit deeper:

Q: What does this tell me?  A:  That there is some “not so pretty”  stuff which needs to be dealt with; possibly some stuck or blocked emotions or fears related to my security,  home (inner and outer) that needs to be shifted. Well… yeah!

Q: What is the solution to the boat?  A: It might be that the boat can’t be taken out all at once (as I would prefer) but may have to be carted out piece by piece!  Or they’re going to have to hire a truck – in other words  – get some assistance.

On  a deeper level, what this reveals to me is that

  1. I may need some help in dealing with shifting my stuckness.
  2. I may have to deal with it bit by bit, and not all at once, even though I want it to be gone now!

So – that’s what I’m doing. The Universe answered the call with an extremely powerful session with a treasured and highly gifted healer friend, during which I experienced rather  a momentous energetic/ emotional shift, which  extended into the even and which I’m still working through.

Once again, the challenges that life present, turn out to be exactly the teachers I need… if I choose to see them like that.

Straight after journaling yesterday,  a post appeared on my timeline by a truly remarkable soul and therapist Matt Licata, who describes this, as well as the current Astrology more fluidly and cohesively than I could ever do, even though he’s not an astrologer.

Emotionally-sensitive, somatically-grounded inner work is unique to each person. We must discover for ourselves the most skillful, effective, and compassionate ways to open and enter into the body, psyche, and heart. No other can reveal the right way for us. The journey is individual and unique by nature, requiring experiential, primary experience; a collective spirituality will never meet the longing within.

It is difficult to tend to the shadow and lost pieces of psyche on our own, and is often best approached via an empathic, attuned relational field, where our experience can be co-regulated and integrated slowly, by way of the relational field itself. To “borrow” another’s soothed, calm nervous system as we enter uncharted territory.

The way of direct revelation is not the easy way. It is not the path of five-steps to empowerment, manifestation, or thinking our way into permanent happiness, abundance, and bliss. While it is natural to want clear methods and direction, it is too wild inside us for all that. It is a humble journey, heart-wrenching at times, as we will inevitably be asked to compassionately tend to the disowned as it surges for reunion.

The goal is not to become dependent upon another in an unhealthy way, but over time to practice the art of self-regulation and be able to shift wisely, skillfully, and compassionately between the two.

Wherever you are on your journey, you can ask a guide to bear witness as you move into unknown territory, honuoring the immensity of the call to wholeness. Find a therapist, lover, mentor, or friend; a tree, a bird, a mountain, or dog; the sky, the sun, the stars, or the mud. A God or Goddess, wise inner figure, or being of light.

Allow your symptoms to merge into these protectors and enter into dialogue, practicing intimacy with the inner material, while simultaneously not fusing with it.

It is unlikely we’ll ever fully understand or resolve the mystery of self and other, separation and union, sun and moon. But we can break open into the questions together, as beginners, as amateurs, and as servants of the mystery.

That kind of says it all, really!

NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

I will be running two more workshops this year and then will be taking a break for December.

I’ll be available for astrology consults for the month of November and then I will be taking a break until January. Please let me know asap if you would like to set up an appointment, as  my November diary is filling up!.

CHANGING PERSPECTIVES  WORKSHOP – 17 NOVEMBER

Jupiter’s move into Sagittarius urges us to see things from a different perspective – turn things upside down, shake them up a bit and see what emerges. I  experience this SO  often in my own art and whilst facilitating Intuitive Art Workshops and private sessions.

When we make art from the inside out,  we allow whatever is there, to bubble up to the surface. Then we take a step back…look at the painting  from a different position…turn it upside down a few times. And suddenly… there it is…an image…. an idea…. a light goes on!  We see something for the first time. It speaks to us. There’s an inner heart knowing that we will never be able to see ” it”the same way again.

There is a permanent shift in our perspective.. from the inside!. We’ll be exploring the theme artistically in my workshop on 17th November. Let’s see what arises!  Email me for details

THE ART OF COMPLETION – 18 NOVEMBER

As we hurtle towards the end of the year, I have decided to offer a Completion Day workshop.

  • You might want to attend Saturday and Sunday (R100 off if you do) and use the second day to deepen and fine tune your Perspectives artwork.
  • Or you might choose to do a Completion Collage, reflecting back on the year.
  • Or you are welcome to finish a piece of art you have started during the year, but not got around to finishing.

That  kind of says it all and to finish off the blog, I’m sharing one of my favourite poems by David Whyte – Everything is Waiting for you.

FULL MOON OCTOBER IN TAURUS – SUN IN SCORPIO

Moon octoberOn 24th October, we have a full moon in the sign of Taurus, which links back to the New moon in Taurus on 15th May If you reflect a little, you might find that similar issues, or a continuation of what was happening then, might be arising again now, but with more intensity.

This full moon is not only within a degree of Uranus, the planet of change, liberation, revolution and awakening, but both of them are closely opposing the Sun and Venus (Retrograde) in Scorpio. This combination can feel very unpredictable or uncomfortable for some, but it does have the power to boot us out of our comfort zones and align us with some magic, provided we work with its energy consciously.

The alignment provides us with no less than 8 planetary points in fixed signs and no fire whatsoever –There’s the deep desire for change, but we might feel stuck, without much impetus right now to make it happen!

Let’s explore this energy a bit more.

IT’S STEADY

Firstly there’s Taurus – a fixed earth sign, representing our connection with planet earth, our physical bodies,  five senses, money, food and that which we truly value. The full moon shines a spotlight on our need and concerns about stability,  comfort and security!

IT’S ELECTRIFYING!

And then along comes electrifying Uranus (in fixed Taurus), who’s not in the least bit concerned with any of these things. He’s an unpredictable, unconventional wildcard who demands liberation, excitement, adventure and change.  If things are too stultifying, earthbound or comfortable, he’ll send in his emissaries of thunder and lightning to penetrate and cut through the dross in order to get things moving. Mars, the planet of action,  is firmly ensconced in Aquarius (ruled by Aquarius), which simply reinforces this theme!

IT’S DEEP!

And of course, there’s Scorpio, a fixed water sign. The Sun has just moved into the sign of  deep transformation for the next month, where he joins  Venus (retrograde), Mercury and Jupiter in the sign of deep transformation.

This combination places the magnifying glass on intense emotive issues around relationships, sex, value, communication and the beliefs or “truths” that we hold dear to our hearts. The Scorpion insists that we go beneath the surface to investigate these at a deeper level and release what needs to be released, in order to make space for the new.

Suffice to say, this certainly isn’t the calmest or easiest of full moons, but, as always, we have the choice of how we’re going to respond to the energy  – Its electrifying, its deep, its passionate and its transformational!

All we can really do is to stay as present as possible with what ever is arising.

JOURNAL QUESTIONS

  • Write down 5 things that you really, really, really want in your life
  • Now apply laser focus and narrow that list  down to one thing!
  • Write down what you are prepared to change, release and/or commit to,  in order to help to bring it into being

OTHER WAYS TO WORK WITH THE ENERGY

  • Ask the penetrating questions about your life, but don’t demand the answers… right now.
  • Be aware of signs and symbols that appear in relation to your questions
  • Feel the feelings that arise, as they arise!
  • Keep returning to your breath, over and over again.
  • Get your body moving – it will help to get the static energy moving and ignite some much needed fire.
  • Listen to some inspirational or calming music
  • Watch some uplifting programmes or read a really good book
  • Soak in a bath… with bubbles or beautiful oils
  • Lie down on the grass and seep in the beauty of this moment
  • Between the 24th and the 26th do a detox or a releasing ceremony to prepare for the Birth of Venus.

VENUS JOINS THE SUN

On a positive note, when Venus joins the Sun on 26th October, it marks the beginning of the second part of her retrograde period and is often known to symbolise The Birth of Venus.  This is  a creatively inspired,  heart opening opportunity, which should help us to find the clarity we’ve been looking for over the past few months

METAMORPHOSIS WORKSHOP 27th OCTOBER

We’ll be working with this powerful Tranformative energy  and the theme of the  Birth of Venus in my next Art & Soul Workshop on 28th October. I still have a few places left, if you would like to join us.

ASTROLOGY READINGS / COACHING SESSIONS

I’m available for readings until the end of November ( First time Birth Charts, annual or 6 monthly updates, childrens’ charts, relationship charts, vocational readings and navigational coaching. Please contact me soon if you would like to book some time with me.

Solar Eclipse 13 July- Riding the Wave

raging sea

Have any of you been feeling some rather intense energy over the last few days …particularly around family, security, home, mothering, roots?  Well…  its not really surprising, as we prepare for the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer in the early hours of Friday morning 13 July (in South Africa).

It’s always emotionally intense  when both the sun and the moon are in the watery, sensitive  sign of the crab, but this one takes it up a good few notches.

When we have a solar eclipse, the sun is overwhelmed by the moon.  In other words the feminine vanquishes the masculine. The light disappears and we are pulled into the darkness for a while.

This can feel scary at first, but when we stay there for a while, our eyes start to readjust and we start to see things differently. When the obvious colours and details are not available, we start to look at things in a deeper way. That is what is asked of us now.

DEEP SEA DIVING

This New Moon eclipse forms an exact opposition to Pluto, the king of the underworld, modern ruler of Scorpio.  Pluto is the plumber of the zodiac, beckoning us beneath the surface, so that we might process any debris that might be sitting there, or, to be blunt,  clear out the sewer. Not a particularly pleasant thing to do, but quite necessary every now and then to avoid even more, serious blockages in the future.

Suffice to say, emotions that are coming up right now might not be comfortable at all, especially for those who have a lot of fire/ air in their charts, who prefer to keep things light and positive!

Amongst myself and my closest friends, here are some examples of what is and has been arising over the past week. Issues around home/security/ finances/;    illness to do with fluids (pneumonia);  flooding of houses; old emotional issues coming to the surface;  leaking roofs,  a feeling of general down-ness or off-ness for no seeming reason; big emotions around parenting/  family issues and responsibilities; feeling sick to the stomach; feeling lost at sea, having lost sight of the shore; vivid disturbing dreams.

So – what do we do?

Well, those troublesome, irritating feelings or general dis-ease,  “off-ness” or “not-so-goodness”, are just the tip of the iceberg. Underneath, if we do some deep sea diving, we may discover beauties like anger, sadness, grief, rage or fear, which are desperately trying to get our attention. And… as usual, we have the choice to feel them or to beat them into submission… guess which one works better?

HONOUR YOUR FEELINGS

The good news is that if we are prepared to honour the feelings that come up, we have a very supportive, very powerful Grand Water Trine, formed by Sun/Moon, Jupiter and Neptune, which can help us to bring understanding to or clear some debris, so that we can move forward, lighter and less encumbered. Jupiter in Scorpio (more water)  has just moved direct after 4 months of being retrograde. With Jupiter being a beneficial planet, this can be seen as a positive thing – much like a giant pressure hose, coming in to clear away all the sticky stuff, if we choose to allow it to do so.

If however, we elect to repress or medicate or numb the emotions that are coming up, they will simply join the others  lurking in the sewer,  until the next time.

If  there was ever a time to ride the wave of emotion, this is it. Many of us are feeling the angst and suffering of Mother Earth and humanity right now, in addition to our own.  Consider this… what if, each time we  feel a feeling, without  censorship or guilt, we help to transmute it, perhaps not only for ourselves, but for mankind and Mother Earth too?

RADICAL SELF CARE

I see this as a time of radical self care. If you feel insecure, needy, inadequate, sad or full of rage, sit with it for a few moments and breathe into it…  or express it in some way… dance it, sing it, paint it, write a poem about it, journal it –   if it’s anger, hitting a pillow really helps.  Then ask yourself how best you can show up, nourish and nurture yourself.  Maybe that means  cooking yourself a warm nourishing meal, sitting next to a fire, or perhaps connecting with the people who love you, taking a nap, or having a hot bath.  What would you advise your best friend, lover or child to do if they were in distress?

…Do that for yourself!

Every single time we abandon or berate ourselves, we deplete our energetic  and emotional tanks. Every time we value and love ourselves, we fill them up. All our tanks need regular cleaning and refilling and this is the time to do it. The fuller our individual tanks are, the more love we have to give.

SOME TOOLS TO HELP YOU RIDE THE WAVE

You might want to try Emotional Freedom Technique. Try it – it’s really simple and sure  does work. Whilst tapping certain points, you acknowledge what you are feeling (out loud preferably EG “Even though I am feeling …. X, Y Z, I deeply love and approve of myself”

Other tools that could help would be grounding – spending time outside with no shoes,  walking, spending time in nature, meditating, deep breathing, or visiting a hypnotherapist, trusted energy worker or psychologist. Just as we feed ourselves nutritional food,  and exercise our physical bodies, our emotional bodies and energetic bodies also need regular nourishment and tune ups!

Eclipses always happen in sets and have much longer lasting effects than normal new and full moons. This one marks the start of the Cancer/ Capricorn eclipse season, which will last until 2020, so there’s lots of time to work with these themes . The last time we had an eclipse at the same degree was 11 July 2010, so you might find that there are similar themes that are coming up.

SET THOSE NEW INTENTIONS

This solar eclipse is also an excellent time to set new intentions. Wherever 20 degrees of Cancer/ Capricorn lies in your chart will usually be where this is most pressing.

If you’d like to plumb further into this, you might consider setting up an Eclipse Reading, where we can explore how and where this is going to be working with you personally over the next few years.

AUGUST WORKSHOP AND RETREAT

New Moon March 17th in Pisces

trust image.jpg

BY MICHELLE MCCLUNAN

Hi Everybody

Well we’re in the final stages of the moon’s waning (releasing) cycle and preparing for the New Moon March 17th in Pisces. This is a really important one, as it heralds not only the end of a month’s cycle, but also the beginning of the end of our Astrological year. The New Year starts on 20th /21st March, when the Sun moves in Aries.

Due to the New Moon being in close proximity to Chiron, the wounded healer, this is also a very unique  opportunity to gain understanding and bring healing to our deepest and most painful struggles or hurts. More about that further on. This is greatly expanded and possibly assisted by a trine to Jupiter in Scorpio. We also have 3 planets in Aries, adding a fiery element to the mix.

NEW MOON IN PISCES

A new moon in Pisces is always a time of letting go, releasing and planting new seeds for the year ahead.  As a mutable water sign. Pisces strengthens our connection to all that is/ Source/ the Divine; as well as activating and deepening our imagination, intuition and creativity. At this time of the year, we are able to refine our perceptions and raise our consciousness, by aligning with and flowing with the energy of the moment. It is a time to release and surrender the year.

The symbol for Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions and there are most definitely two sides to the sign, as there are with all the signs of the zodiac.

THE FLIP SIDE

The flip side of Pisces energy is that it is can also be a time when we feel the suffering of everything more acutely, when we are more sensitive or when our grief, sadness, fears, or victimhood can come to the surface. We can also feel lethargic, tired, confused,  all at sea, in a fog, hopeless, invaded, frustrated, victimised, or ill. It’s the end of a cycle after all!  It’s often a time when people who have been struggling to release an age or illness-ravaged body are able to finally let it go. If you haven’t heard, Stephen Hawkins passed yesterday. My uncle passed peacefully on Tuesday too. He was very old and it was time! Whilst visiting him last week, he certainly seemed to be connecting with and drifting between different dimensions, starting the process of completing his journey here and moving on.

FALLOW FIELDS AND THE VOID

So – this is the time of the year when the fields of our lives need to be cleared, and the soil left to stand fallow for a bit to recover,  before a new crop is planted.

The problem is, most of us homo sapiens are more human doings than human beings, and a lot of us aren’t too crazy about stopping the noise, possible because when it does, we are pulled into a quiet place where all that remains is us and “all that is”.  We generally aren’t too happy to be in a void for long, so we tend to fill it up as quickly as we can and that is where the exhaustion sets in.  We just don’t give ourselves time to catch our breaths and recover, before carrying on with the next thing!

Nevertheless, it’s very clear that this is what we’re being called up upon to do, even it its uncomfortable at first. Bite sized pieces of the void are better than no void at all 😊That’s why meditation or stillness are so important, because they give us mini vacations in our overflowing lives.

CHIRON – THE WOUNDED HEALER

The reason this new moon is SO important is because of Chiron, who is sailing along right next to the sun and the moon and is about to leave the sign of Pisces where he has been since 2011.  Due to having a 51 year orbit, this marks the end of a much longer cycle as well!.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer (we all have one) can be seen as the wound that make us wise;  the pain and struggles that are actually designed to help to grow and raise our consciousness, even though it really doesn’t feel like that sometimes!  When Chiron moves through Pisces, we are asked to investigate how much we trust  – not other people –  but rather how much we trust the flow of life; how much we are able to surrender to the ebb and flow cycles; how much we are able to understand that we are connected and supported by something much bigger and more mysterious than our the physical world.

If you were born between the years of around 1961 to 1969, you probably have your natal Chiron in Pisces, like me, which means that this is part of your core wound anyway, If so, you  might feel as if you’re being tested now more than other people, as Chiron makes his last freestyle dash though the deep waters of Pisces, making sure you get the message and the healing. There is help at hand!

TRUST, SURRENDER AND RELEASE

Whether or not you fall into this category, we are ALL  being urged to trust, surrender and release something or somebody at this time.

IF YOU HAVE HAD YOUR CHART DONE:

The area that Chiron is moving through your chart will give you clues as to where you need to trust, surrender and release. If for example, Chiron has been travelling through your 4th house, it might suggest that something to do with your home or your home itself or your family needs to be released. If he’s travelling through your 10th house, then the focus would be on on your career/vocation; in the 6th house your health and so on. The area in which Chiron was in when you were born will also be brought into the mix.

Wherever Chiron is now and wherever it was when you were born, you would have had many opportunities to work with  trust.  faith, surrender and deepening your connection over the past 7 years or so.

You’re welcome to book a short session with me to investigate how this is playing out in your chart, and what you need to release  before Chiron moves into Aries in April. Heads up – This might be contrary to your personal preference!

IF YOU HAVEN’T HAD YOUR CHART DONE

If you  haven’t had your chart done or aren’t keen to have it done, then just just intuitively connect with what you feel you need to release right now in your life.

HOW TO WORK WITH THIS ENERGY

  • Please make some time before or on the New Moon to jot down the main things that have happened in the last astrological year in all aspects of your life. The wins, the losses, new arrivals, departures, health, work, finances, home, family etc.
  • If possible, do some kind of clearing or detoxing of mind, spirit, body before the New Moon as well. This is arguably the best time of the year to do this.
  • Then preferably on the day of the new moon, connect with the energy of water in some way – the sea, a river, a dam, a stream or if none of those a swimming pool, bath or bowl of water.
  •  One idea is to write  down what you want to release, on a leaf or a stone and set it down / throw it into the water… or come up with something even more imaginative!  Watch as it drifts down the river or gets washed out to sea. As you do so, repeat to yourself

I cleanse and release all the dead weight from the year gone by. I release………………………. (be specific)

I calm and centre my mind, body, and spirit, so I may hear the calling of my soul guiding me in the right direction

I replenish my energy and welcome in a new vision for my life (describe it) – you could send something into the water course to represent this too, if you like.

We’ll be  working with this in my  EBB & FlOW Workshop on Saturday 17th March. I still have a bit of space, so join us if you are able to. Email me for details

MERCURY RETROGRADE

Mercury will be retrograde from 23rd March to 16th April,  so make sure you back up all your data and double check travel arrangements before then.

Thanks for reading!

FULL MOON TAURUS 4TH NOVEMBER

toni mermaid

FULL MOON TAURUS 4th NOVEMBER

Saturday’s  Full moon in Taurus provides a sexy, sensual, earthy container for the intense, penetrating and potentially challenging Scorpio energy of  the moment. With Jupiter being in Scorpio for a whole year, we’re really being urged by the God of the Skies to go deeper, in order to reach our next level of expansion and growth.  See my video where I discussed this a while back.

There’s also a magical, mystical romantic flavour to this full moon which is provided by positive flowing aspects to Neptune, King of the Ocean. This could bring  important soul connections, love matches or help us to take our relationships to a deeper level.  Why not plan a beautiful, sensual ritual for Saturday, with your nearest and dearests this weekend?

THE MERMAID BECKONS

This combined energy reminds me of an alluring mermaid sunning herself on a rock, beckoning us to leave the shallows for a while and follow her into her watery underworld. The mermaid has always been a strong, evocative archetype for all of us (men and women). She  represents the part of us who is wild, free, intuitive and feminine, equipped to navigate both earthly and watery realms.

The picture I’ve used in this post was painted by my friend Toni D’Amant at my last workshop and  exquisitely  depicts the integration and personal power that can be achieved when we embrace both realms.

THE ELEMENT OF WATER

In Astrology, water is  associated with our feelings and planetary activity of the moment provides us with a real opportunity to consider how we are navigating them.

Although it’s perfectly normal to have feelings running through us, many of us have been told that something is vastly amiss when we’re sad, angry, listless, or scared, or when we’re firing on anything less than all cylinders. Many of us have been told repeatedly that we are too sensitive, too soft and that showing our feelings is weak and pathetic.  So, when tricky emotions threaten to surface, we often drown them out via various addictions, occupy ourselves with continual busyness or deny them completely, in the hope that they will just go away. But, they don’t –  whatever we resist really does persist. They will resurface at some point. The dam wall will eventually break.

I find it interesting that western horoscope astrology focuses only on the Sun sign (the active, masculine, outward achieving parts of ourselves) and doesn’t even consider the moon (the feminine part of  us which  connects us with our feelings and our intuition).  When I do a chart, I pay equal attention to both!  Ignoring our feelings is much like chucking our navigational equipment overboard when at sea.

Very often, when I am working with a client, I’ll ask how they process or navigate their emotions. I cannot tell you how often people just stare back at me blankly. I know the feeling. We all do.

We have simply not been given the tools to process our inner waters, which is often mirrored in our relationship with the water in our external world.

This has really been highlighted for me this week by staying in Cape Town, which as you may know, is in the midst of a truly terrible drought and is rapidly running out of water.  Like anything, when something is in short supply or is disappearing, we start to value and appreciate it more. Those who understand the severity of the problem here treat each drop with the utmost care, re-using it wherever possible, wasting as little as possible.

What if we were to nurture our internal waters and feelings in the same way? What if we could acknowledge their preciousness, care for them with compassion and gentleness, find ways of channelling them, rather than pushing them under the surface, denying them or damming the up.

When we visit the deeper waters of our souls from time to time (we don’t need to hang out there permanently) we are usually able to connect with that which we know to be right for us, that which is true and real.

The concern  for many of us is that if we visit the watery underworld, we might never emerge again, that somehow we might get stuck there. This really isn’t my experience. When we find ways to consciously allow our feelings to flow through us, they pass more quickly. When we repress them, they stick around for longer, become stagnant and cause all sorts of issues.

CONNECT WITH YOUR INNER WATERS

At this full moon and over  the next two weeks,  see if you can allow your inner mermaid  to lead the way, beyond the busy, rational, “doing” part of you.

  • On a daily basis, take a few moments to check in with yourself
  • Sit quietly, connect with your 5 senses
  • Notice what you feel in your body
  • Ask how your water is doing:
    • Do you feel that you are drowning in emotion -overwhelmed? – if so, perhaps your water needs to be channelled through some sort of expressive activity.  This could be through talking, journaling, painting, sculpting, dancing, singing, cooking, baking etc . Being outside exercising can evaporate some water, leaving you clearer and lighter.            .
    • Maybe it feels as though your water is moving too fast – your emotions running too quickly. Perhaps they need to be contained – you might just slow down, pause, acknowledge the feelings, without needing to name them.
    • Are you dry or parched – You might need more nourishment, more kindness, more nurturing. Maybe you need to immerse yourself in water, or drink more water, or take some time out
    • Are you feeling stagnant and stuck? Perhaps you need to introduce some movement or more flow into your life. Consider how you might be able to bring more flexibility into your life, or soften into the present moment more often.
    • If you feel that you need some help navigating your inner waters, you might be interested in setting up a Process Session with me. I’ll show you how you can use  creative expression to navigate your emotions.

I leave you with a profound quote written by a Chinese Scholar in the 11th century

“Water is yielding, but all conquering. Water extinguishes fire, or, finding itself likely to, be defeated, escapes as sea and reforms. Water washes away soft earth, or, when confronted by rocks, seeks a way around. It saturates the atmosphere, so that wind dies. Water gives way to obstacles with deceptive humility, for no power can prevent it following its destined course to the sea. Water conquers by yielding, it never attaches, but always wins the last battle.

New Moon October 19th in Libra

New Moon October 19th in Libra

Speak your truth with love

On Thursday 19th  October, we have the start of a brand spanking new lunar cycle with a New Moon in Libra – which sets the scene for the next month.  When we think Libra, we think balance, relationship, co-operation, peace, love, beauty and harmony… “Imagine” by John Lennon says it best, being a Libran himself.

But this is no ordinary Libran New Moon… this usually lovely sun/moon peace party is being directly opposed (at the SAME degree) by radical, revolutionary, Uranus, who is residing in fiery, impulsive Aries. You might say it’s just a tad more complex and contradictory than normal. You may be feeling a  little on the edgy side,  irritated, angry or perhaps  a bit stuck or sick and tired of playing it safe and trying to please everybody?

Let’s have some fun and see if we can get to know the archetypal characters in this scene (which are mirrored in each of us)  a bit better, so we can work out what to do with them.

Imagine if you will, a wrestling ring – Enter on the left, to the swell of orchestral music, the gorgeous, the honed, the immaculately turned out… Mr Libra – let’s call him Fancy Pants Phillipe … charming, graceful, smooth of skin, silken cape swirling around perfectly tailored shorts. More than happy to be in the limelight, he glides around the ring, waving and flashing his Hollywood smile for all to see.  After all, you’ve paid for your ticket and he aims to please.

And then…Suddenly… the music shifts, there’s a rumble and a roar and a flash of lightening, as a blur of  black and red silk explodes like a whirling dervish into the ring. Seemingly out of thin air, appears the Great, the mighty …Rebel the Ram, muscles pumped for action, presence looming, teeth bared, pure primal energy shooting from every pore, his body glistening with the sweat of unadulterated excitement and unbridled energy. Not a second is wasted as Rebel the Ram virtually flies across the ring and pounces on  Fancy Pants, who doesn’t even see it coming,  absorbed as he is in doing the pleaser strut.  Pandemonium breaks out – I mean the match hasn’t even started yet. The refs manage to restrain the Rebel and he laughingly prances away, waving a dismissive hand at Fancy Pants, who is now lying in a daze on the floor, a little bloodied and very embarrassed indeed. The Ram moves swiftly  around the ring, arms in the air, brimming with the unabashed  confidence of a winner.  His speciality is the rattling of cages and he has successfully unbalanced and psyched his opponent out. Had Fancy pants not been so obsessed with pleasing everybody, he may have seen it coming.

Uranus is the rebel, the awakener and he’s just doing his job, bringing us out of any slumber we might be in to help us to shift to a higher level of being, by recognising our truth.

As much as we might want the beauty, balance, peace thing, this new moon is hoofing us out of our  comfort zones and showing us exactly where we are inauthentic or where we are out of balance.

Libra generally has little or no interest in rocking the boat, whereas  Uranus in Aries says “burn the boat down if needs be”. Libra wants to co-operate, avoid confrontation and keep the peace at all costs, where Uranus in Aries demands that we be honest,  assert ourselves, stand up for what’s right, change the way we do things and even maybe take a risk or two. This can be seen strongly in the ME TOO thing that’s going around Social media, with women finally standing up and speaking out against sexual harassment. Jupiter in Scorpio is helping to bring secrets up and out and it’s going to continue for the next year! If you didn’t catch it you can watch the video HERE

Obviously with the main theme still being balance, we’re being urged to find the middle ground, regardless of which side of the pendulum we happen to be hanging out on.

10 QUESTIONS TO ASK IN THE NEXT MONTH

  1. How can I balance my need for connection/ relationship with my desire for personal freedom or expression?
  2. How can I bring peace and harmony to my relationships without sacrificing my truth?
  3. Where am I not being honest in my life and my relationships. Where have I been glossing over the truth?
  4. How can I stand firmly but lovingly in my own power, despite the opinions and reactions of others?
  5. Where in my life, do I feel stuck and how can I get out of the rut I’m in?
  6. What are the stories I’m telling myself about relationships and money – and if they’re not aligning me with my full potential, how can I change them?
  7. Where in my life am I putting on a pleasing face and over co-operating, possibly to my detriment – a good clue here is to ask yourself what or who you resent and why.
  8. Or – where am I being blustery, imposing, tactless, confrontational and self obsessed?
  9. Am I pushing too hard or are taking the path of least resistance?
  10. Am I going to war with people, when peace would be the better option?.

Jupiter Scorpio October 2017 to November 2018 – 5 Ways to find your buried Treasure.

JUPITER SCORPIO!  BIG news this week folks as the largest planet in our Solar system moves into Scorpio for the first time in 12 years, on 10th October.  1300 of our earths would fit into Jupiter, to give you some idea.

Astrologically, Jupiter is the bestower of gifts, planet of luck, opportunity, expansion, generosity, higher learning and is connected with man’s search for meaning and wisdom.

In Roman Mythology he was known as the King of the Gods, the Greeks referred to him as Zeus. He’s also known as the God of Thunder and he is certainly making his arrival into the WATER  sign of Scorpio known today – as I write this we are experiencing one of the biggest, loudest storms I have ever known. Zeus is definitely shakin things loose!

For the past year as Jupiter moved  through Libra, you may have experienced growth and learning through increasing your social circle, making new friends, beginning new  relationships, or attempting to find justice, balance, peace and harmony through collaboration and co-operation.

Jupiter Scorpio

When this giant of a planet enters watery, feminine, intense Scorpio, things go to a whole other level.  We can expect big change and transformation over the next few months as  Mercury, the Sun, Venus and then Mars, join Jupiter in Scorpio.

How best to navigate this planetary shift?  Well, the way I see it, Jupiter is asking us to go to a deeper place, in order to find the answers.  It is most often beneath the surface, that we find the treasure.

5 WAYS YOU CAN FIND YOUR BURIED TREASURE

  • Be even more real, open,  honest, authentic – with yourself and others.
  • Bring more intimacy into your lives – “in to me see”
  • Explore and acknowledge your secret self, those parts for you that you might hide from the world – what do they have to tell you?
  • Connect with and process your deeper emotions, even the difficult ones!
  • Ask deep, penetrating questions.
    • What is it that makes me …. (joyful, happy, sad etc)
    • What is this ………..(emotion, illness, discomfort, addiction etc ) trying to tell me?
    • What’s going on beneath the surface in my relationship – with myself, my money,  my significant others?
    • What are my deep beliefs about money?
    • How much do I really value myself?
    • What can I learn from the  situation that is presenting itself right now?
    • How honest can I be with myself and others?
    • What in my life needs to be released, so that something else can be reborn?
