Lifelight Astrology 7th June 2017

intuition muscle

FULL MOON IN SAGITTARIUS

On Friday 9th June, we have a full moon in Sagittarius, which means that the Moon is opposite the Sun in Gemini, continuing the communication theme for the next two weeks.

Gemini represents the logical, rational mind and is concerned with our busy daily lives, our immediate environment and all incoming information. Sagittarius represents the truth seeker, the higher intuitive mind, the guru that resides within each of us.

This full moon urges us to reach higher, shoot our arrows further and explore beyond the borders of our daily lives, by developing and honing our intuition.

Even though the rational mind often gets a bad rap, without it, we would be incapable of processing any information whatsoever.

However, we need to make it a servant, not the master.

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift”. Albert Einstein

The barrage of information that comes to us on any given day, together with the gazillion thoughts and concerns we may have, tends to drown out any intuitive messages that might be trying to gain access.

Over the next few weeks, see if you can connect more consciously with your intuition. This is not something that’s reserved for a special  gifted few. It’s available to us all, but we need to work it like any other muscle.

14 WAYS TO HONE YOUR INTUITION:

  • For a few minutes each day, turn off or step away from your devices and the noise of daily life and spend some time in silence. Give the chattering mind a chance to subside, so as to allow your intuition to emerge. Remember that the words “Listen” and “silent” have the same letters.
  • Spend time in nature. Ground yourself regularly! (Read more here)
  • If you have a dilemma or a problem, try stepping away from it and doing something completely different. Go for a walk or a shower or pull some weeds out of the garden. Very often, the answer will magically appear.
  • Tune into the 5 senses regularly. It’s quick, easy and accessible and brings you into the moment, opening a channel to your higher self.
  • Do some stream of conscious journalling, which clears the mind of busy mundane thoughts and worries and makes space for intuitive guidance  to come through.
  • Try writing with your non-dominant hand. It will help you to liberate rigid patterns of expression.
  • Write down whatever you remember of your dreams. Our souls communicate every single night, but we need to listen.
  • Take some time to creatively express yourself. Spontaneous imagery, collage, painting, doodling, drawing, singing, making music and dancing help to calm the busy mind and give us more access to  our intution.
  • Start an intuitive notebook. Write down every intuitive flash or hunch you have.
  • When you have a feeling that you should call or visit someone, or reach for a book, follow it and see where it leads.
  • Pay more attention to your feelings. They are a compass and will tell you whether you’re moving in the right direction.
  • See if you can guess who’s on the phone before you look at it. Have fun with it and don’t beat yourself up if you get it wrong 🙂
  • Pick a subject and speak to yourself or to somebody else for 3 or 4 minutes – without interrupting. As you talk, notice how the clutter clears and gems of insight and wisdom start to appear.
  • Let somebody else talk for the same amount of time and just listen, without commenting, fixing or helping. As you listen, notice any new awareness that might arise  about yourself or your own life.

I’ll be sharing some insights on Intuition and Listening on FACEBOOK over the next month. Please join in the conversation and share how you connect to your intuition!

THE ART OF LISTENING WORKSHOPS

To work with the current communication/ intuition theme,  I will be running two THE ART OF LISTENING workshops in June, where I will be teaching you how to make your own deck of Soul Guidance Oracle Cards. The process of selecting images and reading the cards in a group environment will hone your intuition and listening skills and is highly likely to shed light on important issues in your life.

The workshops will be held on Saturday 10th and 24th June – 9:00 to 4:30  AND every Wednesday in June from 9:30 to 12:30

From June, Wednesday “pop-in” classes will be in the form of stand-alone courses – with a different theme each month.

Thanks for reading 🙂

Lifelight Astrology Update 19th June

BLUE MOON AND WINTER SOLSTICE ON THE SAME DAY

Blue moon

Well folks, we have a real bona fide “Once in a blue moon” coming up on the 20th June. Not only is it the second full moon in Sagittarius within a month (see my post on 21st May for details of the first one) but it falls only one hour before the Sun moves into Cancer, heralding the Winter Solstice ( in the southern hemisphere that is )

This is the first time this has happened in 70 years, so it’s got a batch of sky watchers out there into a gleeful flurry.  For us astrologers, this combination of the Winter solstice and the Full moon in the sign of the archer, certainly brings with it the theme of opposites, as well as  a quiver of truth and meaning seeking arrows, as we ask –

” What is the meaning of it all?”  and “Is what I believe to be true, really true?”

Full moon shines bold and beautiful in the night sky – exposed, full and expressive. She always illuminates relationships – those we have with others, as well as with ourselves, our  thoughts and our beliefs about anything.

The Winter Solstice on the other hand is quiet and soulful, bringing the urge to retreat ot even  hibernate a little and then, from that silent  alone place, ask the big questions.  By taking shelter from the relentlessness of life,  the full  moon is able to shine her light on the questions which we ask.

To add more spice to this important moon, we also have another grand cross ( see my last blog for details) . This time, Mercury, the ruler of communication is involved. The fleet footed messenger opposes Saturn, invoking serious mindful thought or despondency/ depression. Jupiter and Neptune then form a square to this axis.

I’d like to explore the slow moving Saturn Neptune square a bit, because it’s  been around since November 2015 and will stay in our heavens  until September this year. It really is the transit of the year.

Firstly, Saturn is in Sagittarius and Neptune is in Pisces, both mutable signs, connected to our quest for truth, meaning, belonging and spiritual connection …  so there’s a bit of a  common  theme there.

But that’s where the similarity ends!

The two (a little like the introverted winter solstice versus the  extroverted beautiful big bold full moon) could not be more different.

Saturn in Sagittarius is the teacher, who insists that we go after our goals in a systematic, pragmatic , mature way. He just adores spreadsheets, schedules and boundaries, and wants us to be  disciplined, hard- working and, focussed on the future.

And Neptune in Pisces? Well….Our  king of the ocean would much rather  lie back in a hammock with a glass of wine  and contemplate the insides of his eyelids –  not apparently  achieving very much. He’s into dreaming beautiful dreams, connecting with the Divine, escaping the harshness,  drifting along in the present moment,  maybe strumming the ukulele, or dancing with the pixies. He finds Saturn crushingly boring with all his demands and Saturn in turn,  finds Neptune hazy, lazy and irresponsible.

And never the twain shall meet – but… like all relationships, we are challenged to  find common ground between the two.

We all have both these archetypes active within us right now and usually, one lands up winning, depending on our predispositions, upbringing and of course our natal charts. We might find ourselves feeling more or less unable to move forward, wanting to escape and  tune out reality completely , or we  may perhaps swing the other way , driving ourselves  relentlessly up the damn mountain.

A more helpful  way to deal with squares is to find a bridge, a centre point between the two energies.

So… whichever way the pendulum has been swinging for you, ask yourself what you need to do to bring it back to the centre. What is your medicine?

If you feel  as if you’re lost at sea without a paddle, perhaps you need to call on wise old Father Time (Saturn) to help you put some boundaries and routines in place … make some lists even !

If, on the other hand, you’ve been overdoing it, burning the candle at both ends, slogging up the never ending mountain, then maybe some time strumming the ukulele  in the hammock might not be a bad idea after all.

Above all, over this  full moon and for the next few weeks, remember to keep sending those truth seeking arrows into the centre of your soul – to find out what’s really true for you now! Don’t forget, as  we each expand our perspectives and upgrade our beliefs, we are actively helping the rest of the planet to do so as well.

In July and August, as the Sun moves through Cancer and Leo,  we will be working with the theme of re-envisioning our infancy, early childhood and our teenage years in my Art & Soul Workshops. Please email me for details.

Lifelight Astrology June 2015

Lifelight Astrology June 2015

circle dance 2

I got back last night from a trip to Greece, after spending a week participating in a transformative painting workshop on the island of Paros ( yes I know, I know … I’m blessed…) and then working in a community high up on Mount Pelion, for another week. Home of Chiron, the wounded healer, the mountain experience was in stark contrast to the island Paradise, but very valuable nevertheless.

I’m in a bit of a travel-weary fog, feeling really sensitized and touched by the experiences I’ve had, amazing people I’ve met and all I’ve learnt. I’m still contextualizing it all, so please forgive me if this month’s newsletter is a bit rambling.

The month starts with a full moon on the 2nd  June in Sagittarius  opposite the Sun, Mars and Mercury (retrograde)  in Gemini, both squaring Neptune. This can make for some foggy, unclear, scrambled,  communication – so do your best to converse with yourself and other with as much clarity as possible.  We all want to reach our highest potential, to understand the truth about ourselves and our roles here on earth, but it seems a bit unclear. There may also be a cupful of jadedness, weariness or even a bit of blue thrown into the soup, but… Neptune opens the creative, intuitive gates, so find some time to be quiet, go within and let some inspiration drift up to the surface. Mercury turns direct on 13th June.

This full moon asks that we really notice what  and how we’re thinking, feeling and communicating with ourselves and others.

Every single day on my trip, I was reminded of the importance of real conversation, which often goes way beyond words.

In the workshop I participated in, much of the conversation was completely non verbal – eyes meeting eyes, hands touching, bodies dancing – rendering words completely unnecessary.  Most of us processed deeply and our facilitator, the magical Meera was often heard to say “No talking” , which allowed the real truth kernels and understanding to emerge, without interruption or going into the drama and the story.

It is always a special privilege to be part of a group of people, who start off as complete strangers from all over the world and end up moving closer and closer together, in softening and acceptance.  Sometimes not understanding each others languages actually helps to foster a deeper, unspoken understanding.  Even outside of the workshops, travelling around and working in a country where a lot of people don’t speak English, prompted me to find  ways of communicating, other than talking.

And then there are the words… harsh ones, gentle ones, wise ones…

One of the highlights at Pelion was spending a couple of days with David Whyte – (no… I’m afraid not in the flesh…) As I yanked deep roots out of the garden, I listened to (and wept at) his incredible words in a series called – the Five forms of Female Courage.  A million thanks to my new and lovely friends Sue and Pete for knowing what it would mean to me and for lending me your Ipod. I laughed and cried and released, as his words reached deep into my heart and soul.

And friendship does the same … what a treasure it is. I am so grateful  that I got to travel with my dear friend and soul sister Theresa – sharing the experience with you made it all the richer. And to all my friends – you know who you are – life would be very pale without you…. I did warn you that I was going to ramble.

Circles touch and mend hearts and souls too!  Each day in Paros and Pelion, our group would meet in a circle and check in with where we were. I’ve written about checking in many times before, but never really about the power of the circle. I start all my workshops in this way  and have grown to value it hugely.

In the community on Mount Pelion, apart from it being situated in the most exquisite mountain rain forests,  we were getting the place ready to receive guests, so there was a lot of hard work to be done, combined with a fair amount of stresses, strains, shrieking landlords, leaking pipes and cold, rainy weather for the last few days.

Without doubt for me, the most beautiful and sacred part of each day was the morning circle.  A candle was lit and each person had a turn with the talking stick.  Despite the work that had to be done, the differences that existed between people, the pressures  and anxieties,  this time was sacred and really necessary. This was where we could all be real and human, where we could address how we were feeling, without being cut off or minimised. By verbalizing where each of us were, we were able to check in with ourselves and each other in an authentic way.

It’s one thing to see somebody as grumpy or obnoxious or closed off and to judge them as such – it’s another to look into their eyes and  understand where their behaviour comes from, to see the pain or worry there and understand  what’s really going on for them.

The process made me realize again,  how often I judge or assume that I know what someone is thinking or feeling and how wrong I usually am.  I truly believe that if we were able to check in, in this way… often… with our loved ones and in our workplaces, the world would change

I really think being listened to  is one of the most of the most fundamental needs we have as human beings. To listen to somebody without interrupting, judging, fixing or defending is simply one of the greatest gifts we can give to anyone. When we are truly interested in another human being, we put ourselves aside and listen to what they have to say, only speaking when we need clarification and only if something is unclear. I reckon the art of listening is a learned skill. It requires concentration, dedication and discipline to just keep quiet for a while and let the other person have their say.

At Pellion, we  were encouraged to communicate to the centre of the circle (neutral point), rather than to address people specifically, to keep our conversation “I” centred, and to keep our sharing deep and brief!  All really good suggestions, which really work.

What was very apparent to me too was the time that the local  Greek people take to talk to each other –  be it  over a morning cup of coffee,  a leisurely meal mezze style (no hurried gobbling and going) or a  drink after work.  Most of the time when people were having a meal,  there was a wonderful absence of cell phones. Haallleluliah!

So… this month, lets  communicate from a heart-centred, authentic place. Lets keep it real, deep and brief. Lets look into each others eyes and find the recognition and understanding there. Lets make time to switch off the phones, break bread together  and actually converse with each other.

Love

Lifelight Astrology – Full Moon in Sagittarius 13th June

roller coasterI’ve been musing about the Full moon in Sagittarius (Friday 13th June) for a few days now and wandering what to write. Actually I’ve been feeling rather uninspired  to write more of the same – Pluto/ Uranus/ Mars calling on us to be more conscious, do more, achieve more – some frustration and overwhelm, Venus/ Saturn calling on us to be more responsible, more serious, Mercury retrograde asking us to reassess, reflect….bla bla blah.

So today, maybe because its Friday 13th  or maybe because the full moon is activating my Sagittarius-ness,  or maybe because I’m just tired of being serious, I really don’t feel like writing about all that at all!.

What I am going to focus on is the largess, the generosity, the expansion, the truth of  Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius.  When I think of Jupiter, I think of the laughing Buddha, I think of breaking bread with friends at a table laden with delicious food, flowers and wine, jesters, clowns, magic, travelling to exciting new places, being outrageous, feeling the wind in your hair, diving into an ocean, riding a horse in the countryside,  turning up the music and dancing like nobody’s watching,  relishing the smell of freshly baked bread, newly ground coffee, picking some flowers, biting into a strawberry, soaking in a bath filled with bubbles  – I think of living, growing and expanding.

A short while ago I wrote in my journal… What if…. there is nothing else I have to achieve… nobody I have to please, nothing I have to do any better or any more perfectly… What if… I was complete right now… if I could accept and embrace myself as I am … this moment?

What if?

When I read those words, I feel expansive. I feel relieved. I feel free.

The reality is that when we do let go of the need to control and scheme and analyse, even for short periods, we actually rewire our brains and redesign our physiology. So when we’re having fun or relaxing, we’re actually healing ourselves and our lives.

What if, this weekend you allowed yourself to embrace the child-like you (even for short periods)  and  released yourself from the prison of  responsibilities, concerns and burdens for a while? What if you embraced your quirky side? What if you bestowed upon yourself the luxury of spending some time doing the things or having the experiences that give you a sense of freedom and expansiveness?

This is my invitation to you this weekend – and if it works, maybe for EVER.

I’d love you to share the fun adventures you have, big and small with me on my Facebook page. Let’s inspire each other.

Some words from Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beer-mats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Injoy

Lifelight Astrology June 2014 – by Michelle McClunan

in silence

By Michelle McClunan

Take a   l  o  n g   d e e e e p   breath. .. drop those shoulders…. E x h a l e  …. Connect with yourself right now in this moment.  Listen… What are you feeling? …. Where are you feeling it in your body? … What are the stories that are going on in your mind….Notice them… Breathe. ..

That …right there is the theme for June as I see it.

With the Sun currently in Gemini, the focus is on communication and this is usually a social, light, intellectual, airy, chatty, busy time of the year, but this one’s a little different to most.

The New Moon in Gemini on the 28th May  set the scene for a much  more gentle, intuitive, creative, sensitive and quieter June than usual. There’s basically a lot more water around, with a square to Neptune, Mercury (the mind)  moving into heart based Cancer and a beautiful grand water trine between Saturn, Jupiter and Chiron.

“When flowing water … meets with obstacles on its path, a blockage in its journey, it pauses. It increases in volume and strength, filling up in front of the obstacle and eventually spilling past it.  Do not turn and run, for there is nowhere worthwhile for you to go. Do not attempt to push ahead into the danger … emulate the example of the water: Pause and build up your strength until the obstacle no longer represents a blockage.” Marsha Sinetar (sent to me By Antoinette McInnes)

All in all, this is potentially a deeply intuitive, creative, profoundly healing time, IF we take time out to stop and listen.

With Mercury turning retrograde on the 8th June in Cancer, we need to remember that if we operate from the level of the rational mind alone, we’re in for possible confusion, delusion and misunderstandings.

This isn’t the best time to make life changing decisions, but if you do need to, try this:

Stop, be quiet, ask for guidance and  bring to mind each alternative one by one. Then tune in with which one feels expansive and which one feels limiting… in your body. The one that makes you feel expansive is very likely to be the right decision.

The more we’re able to go into silence, even for a few minutes at a time and listen to our inner compass, which resides in our hearts, the more we tune in with our truth. It really is that simple.

Gemini is all about communication and learning, how we speak and how we listen.  And the focus this month is on inward communication rather than outer.

When you recognize that there is a voice in your head that pretends to be you and never stops speaking, you are awakening out of your unconscious identification with the stream of thinking. When you notice that voice, you realize that who you are is not the voice (the thinker) but the one who is ‘aware’ of it. Knowing yourself as the awareness behind the voice is freedom. ~ Eckhart Tolle ~

See if you can cut out the noise at  intervals during your day. Turn the cell phone off, take time away from any electronic gadgetry, make some tea and walk outside or spend some time breathing and listening to your inner dialogue. You don’t need to be sitting cross-legged on a cushion to do this, although that’s fine too J

Really in my experience it’s about taking precious moments to check in with yourself. Let the thoughts just drift in and out of your awareness, taking note of their quality and the feelings they evoke in you. Become aware of the manner in which you speak to yourself, perhaps even judge and criticise yourself and ask whether you would speak to anyone else like that. Simply listening,  without judgement… just interested curiosity.

Listen too to the words you use when you’re speaking to someone else and how often you repeat the same mantra’s. “ I’ve got no money, I’m scared, I’m insecure, this is not working, I’m irritated, I’ve had enough, I’m sick and tired”  These thoughts and words are literally creating our reality and only when we take time to notice them can we choose different ones.

One of the greatest gifts I think we can give ourselves and others is that of listening It’s the most incredible thing actually. Try this. When someone you know is worried or stuck or fearful or confused, just listen intently to what they are saying for 5 minutes or so without interrupting.. In my experience, the answers start to drift into up into the speaker’s consciousness, completely… without your help. The same applies if we listen to ourselves.

What are the stories you tell yourself about your life and your future and are they true?  Will you always be stuck in the place you’re in now? Will you always be overweight, sad, unwell, alone, broke? How do you know that any of that is  true?

What if you allowed yourself to imagine a life that was everything you dreamed of… and then visualised it often?

In every moment that we connect with what we love and feel good, we are re-wiring our brains, lifting our vibrations and changing what we attract into our lives.

To help us along with this, Venus, the planet of love, beauty and value, has also just moved into her own sign of Taurus. Yay!  Her home visit will help us to get in touch with the false beliefs that run our lives from behind the scenes and assist us in  realigning  us with the truth of who we are. This will happen mainly when we’re in a relaxed state and fully engaged in things we love to do.

Keep a record of your dreams this month, as well as important conversations and meetings with others and be open and awake to any “aha’s” dropping into your consciousness seemingly from “no-where”

Ideas and answers always appear when we’re not pushing and shoving. They flow in when we stop the incessant barrage of information and busyness. Just yesterday I found myself labouring over some creative writing and strategising I was doing to the point that  I was going around in square circles. For once, I listened to my own advice and went for a walk. No sooner had I walked out of my driveway than the ideas started flowing in, effortlessly… it was like a tap had been opened. When I got home, I sat down at the computer and the words and ideas just poured out. Eureka!

But what about when we have nagging thoughts and worries that just won’t go away?

I read a really interesting article the other day on the “ironic monitoring process”, where research studies have shown that our brains actually search for whatever thought or emotion we are trying to suppress.

In a series of experiments, a group of participants were told not to think of a white bear while they performed other tasks. A second group was instructed to think of white bears and then not to think of them. Interestingly, the first group, which tried to keep the white bear at bay, thought about them more than once a minute! The second group thought about them more when they were trying to suppress white-bear thoughts than when they were told to think about them.

Basically when we try to suppress an intrusive uncomfortable thought or feeling it’s as good as putting out a welcome sign for it.

The article suggested and I find that it helps to rather invite the worrying or disturbing thought in, making it intentional. Say it out loud, write it down or talk to someone about it. Then, if you think there is something you can practically do about it, set 5 to 15 minutes where you commit to focussing on it  (or really worrying about it if you like).  I find that when I notice the thought or feeling rather than suppress it, it relaxes its hold on me and often disappears completely or a solution arises easily and effortlessly when I’m least expecting it.

The more work I do with myself and clients, the more I realise that this human experience is  really about being fully present to what’s going on right now – whatever it is, … to feel into it, to dialogue with it with compassion and  from there to move forward.

If you are stuck in any area of your life, this is a potent time astrologically to get to the bottom of what patterns or behaviours might be holding you back. If you would like to investigate working with me to help you to Navigate your life, you can read more about the life coaching here.

The first step on our adventure together is usually a comprehensive astrology reading, which is often followed by an agreed number of personal navigational coaching sessions, to put you back on course. These include Process Art, Neurolinguistic programming, Energy work and more.

I still have a couple of places left on the Build a new Truth Highway workshop on the 7th June and one on the 21st June. In this one day workshop, using a combination of group work, visualisation, journaling, muscle testing, Neurolinguistic programming, Astrology and Process Art, we will excavate old neural pathways that no longer serve us and start building a new diamond studded truth highway. See below or email me for more details

So… all you beauties, this month, give yourself permission to slow down, appreciate and cultivate beauty, stop whenever you have a good moment and anchor the sensations into your being. Let yourself imagine the most beautiful future possible for yourself and take yourself to that place as often as you can. Above all, connect to your heart and listen to what it has to say.
