To Surrender or not to Surrender?

dandelion

Coming up on the 26th February, we have a powerful solar eclipse (new moon).  The sun is joined by the Moon, Mercury, the South Node,  Neptune and widely by Chiron … all in Pisces. That’s a whole lot of water right there!

Solar Eclipses always indicate major endings, in order to usher in the new. This is  especially true when they happen in Pisces. Being the last sign of the zodiac, this signals that the end of the astrological year is nigh.  This one is connected to the Pisces  Solar eclipse in March 2015, so  there might very well be a connection, if you think back to that time.

Pisces is a dual water sign  (two fish swimming in opposite directions) and relates to the dreamworld, imagination,  intuition, surrender, Divine Connection and all things mystical. However, it is also associated with  delusion, illusion, addiction and  self-sabotage. It shows us where we let ourselves down, over and  over again, where we still consider ourselves to be victims and where we’re waiting for somebody else to come in and rescue us.

If this eclipse involved only a batch of planets in Pisces, I would expand on that, but it’s really not that simple.  Bringing all that  water to the boil , we also  have a major pattern in the sky, formed by Mars (masculine, goals, ambitions, ego drives) in fiery Aries ( the  warrior)  at the same degree as Uranus,  the planet of radical change and liberation; square  transformational Pluto and opposite expansive Jupiter.

So in English now… this combination of energy says – “What do you desire?  Where do you want to go?  How are you going to get there?  It’s time to push yourself forward, take no prisoners!  Don’t be a woes! Make those changes now and  get things moving!.”

So… what do we do with that?

Push forward or surrender?

I’ve just read a very interesting book called The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer.  He has made a life-long  commitment to release his personal preferences, and surrender to the bigger “plan” for his life. The story that emerges is very  interesting,  because every single time he relinquishes his ego drive,  something bigger and better than he ever could have imagined, opens up for him.

However, I have to admit, even though this resonated with me on one level, there was and still is, a voice inside my head  that pops up to say…. “But what happens to MY dreams, MY needs, MY purpose… if I surrender entirely to the flow???”

I’ve been mulling over this for a while and have yet to come up with anything definitive, but it does bring to mind  the first  time I ever rode a horse in the wild. It was at NIGHT, a moonless night at that and we were heading down into a valley in the middle of Zululand.  At one point, early on  in the ride,   I could see absolutely nothing. Let me tell you, my ego was freaking out. Every part of me wanted to take control of that horse, or get off and walk.  My body was stiff, I was scared and hanging on for dear life. A friend (experienced at riding in the dark) advised me to soften my body and give my horse a very long rein so that he would be able to smell and sense his way along.

This was completely counter- intuitive, because all  I wanted to do was tighten the reins and hang on with all my might. However,  due to the fact that I didn’t actually know anything about riding, and  had no idea of how to get to where we were going,  I had no option but to take his advice.  All I needed to do was to stay on the horse and keep my head down, to avoid being de-eyed by unseen branches!

The amazing thing was the  more I surrendered my control and put my faith in this  incredibly intuitive being, the more I realised that I could trust him to lead me to where I needed to go, which he did… and flawlessly at that, never even faltering once.  Along the way, on the straight sections, we cantered, wind in our hair…nothing but the sound of horses hooves on the ground and the occasional “Yeehaa!” from the likes of me and my fellow rookies.  I remember closing my eyes at one point and letting my steed do what horses do, without any interference from me at all. I felt completely connected to  him, to the evening, to the earth, the sky, the stars… the whole caboodle.

By trusting and surrendering to something bigger, I had one of the most exhilarating, liberating experiences of my life … and I reached the destination, but in an entirely different way to how I would have planned it. If I reflect on it, whenever   I have surrendered to the flow, I have been supported!

I  guess there is a midpoint somewhere between our  ego drives and surrender.  Perhaps this eclipse asks us to find it. What if we show up, wholeheartedly… get on the horse, head in the basic direction and then let go of the reins a little?  What if we are kinder, gentler, less cruel, less rigid… softer… towards ourselves and others?  What if we are able to relax and trust that we really are not alone in all  this and that there might be an even bigger, more delicious  plan in store for us than the one we’ve imagined ?

As Rumi says, “Life is a balance between holding on and letting go” … perhaps it’s  a dance between making it happen and allowing it happen.

Please see my newsletter or email me for details about my “Art of Surrender” workshops in March.

Lifelight Astrology 26 January 2017

barbed

IT’S TIME TO BREAK FREE!

On the 28th January, we have a new moon in freedom-loving Aquarius, which  officially ushers in the year of the Fire Rooster. If you’ve been feeling tired and jaded and  that you’re still in transition between 2015 and 2016, this might explain why.

New moons always indicate the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new one, a time to reassess, let go and welcome in the new.

This new moon lies at the midpoint between Venus and Saturn, who are in an exact square to each other right now. This can bring to the fore  issues, concerns and fears around money, security and/or relationships. There may be a feeling of needing more than you have, or feeling burdened, tired or stuck in any of these areas.

Let’s investigate this a little further.

SATURN

Saturn is often viewed as a stern, finger-wagging father figure, who lectures us on where we seem to be failing  and gives advice about what we could be doing better. He can issue strict curfews and make us feel incapable, lazy, limited and generally “not good enough”.

However, it all depends on how we perceive him

Old Cronos is currently travelling through the expansive, optimistic sign of Sagittarius and although the two are unlikely bedfellows, when we combine their energy, we find the wise teacher, who provides us with challenges and tests, in order to help us stretch past our existing limitations and mature into our next level of being.

VENUS

Venus  represents  one aspect of the feminine and is all about relationships, love, money, self-worth, security and value.  She is currently swimming through Pisces, along with Mars – which brings us tenderness, imagination, intuition, creativity, compassion, sensitivity and vulnerability. The lover within us longs for depth of connection, which can be hard to define and satisfy. The shadow part of her journey through Pisces is  evasion, slipperiness, addiction, escapism and victimisation.

SATURN VENUS SQUARE

When these energies are blended together, we are presented with the opportunity to look at :

  • The challenges/ limitations/ fears that may arise around our attitudes and beliefs about money, security and/or love
  • Where we are evasive, addicted, non-committal, deluded or victimised
  • Where we are too hard or merciless on ourselves
  • How we can embrace the creative, intuitive, vulnerable sides of ourselves with a deeper level of maturity and understanding

NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS

The New Moon in Aquarius steps in here to  assist us in detaching enough so as to see things from a different perspective.  When we can lift ourselves out of the quagmire of our issues and put ourselves into the role of the compassionate observer,  we are able to clearly  see what’s actually going on and what we can do about it.

This new moon energy is revolutionary, rebellious and maverick. It refuses to conform to the status quo or to ancient paradigms, patterns and limitations. It dares us to stand up for what we truly believe in and unravel the ropes that bind us.

However, In order for us to stand up for ourselves and initiate change, we need to first understand what our perceived limitations are.

ELEPHANTS

When  elephants live in captivity, they’re tied to trees (sob)  with  strong ropes every night. Because it’s their nature to be free,  baby elephants will continually try to break away, until they realise that it’s futile , give up and resign themselves to staying put.

The interesting thing is that they are fully grown, even though they have the power to totally uproot the tree, they will not even attempt to break free. This is because their perception, which was set in place while they were babies, is that they cannot escape.

AND US?

Well, we all have illusory boundaries, fears and limitations, which were created in the past.

However, we also have the ability to see them and set ourselves free.

I see the energies of the moment as providing us with a chance to see, connect with and acknowledge  (Aquarius) the perceived limitations, insecurities, fears that bind us so tightly.  We can then  connect with the wise teacher (Saturn) and the gentle loving Feminine  (Venus) who live inside us and gently start to break the bonds that tie us so tightly and realign with our true state, which is unfettered and free.

Also on the day of the new moon,  Mars (the masculine)  moves out of Pisces and into Aries. Venus joins him on the 4th February.  This fiery energy could bring some volatility (or passion) in relationships, but also has the potential to catapult us forward into the year.

Supermoon 27th October 2015

MOON UNCOVERING

Quick check-in – Today (27th October) we have the third Supermoon in a row, and a powerful one at that. Even though we in Durban are unlikely to see it, due to the rainy weather, we can still feel it.

The sun is now firmly ensconsed in Scorpio, the plumber of the zodiac, and he is down in the trenches shining his torchlight into those dark shadowy corners, determined to uncover and root out anything which is blocking us or standing in the way of us living our best lives.

The moon is opposite him in earthy, sensual Taurus, which represents the relationships we have with our bodies, our value systems and with Mother Earth.

Take a few moments today to sit quietly, close your eyes and run through your body. Connect with and become aware of any areas of tension, discomfort or pain. Imagine walking into that area and feeling what it feels like. What’s the colour… whats the texture… whats the shape? Is there an emotion there? How is your body telling you where you aren’t valuing yourself? Whereabouts is the discomfort and how could it perhaps relate to your life situation?  Is your neck stiff or sore – maybe you need to put some burdens down. Is your throat uncomfortable? Perhaps you need to communicate something to somebody.  Play with this and use that brilliant intuition of yours!

The planetary alignments are really helping us to be our own investigators right now… to find out exactly where we are under-valuing or just flat-out abusing ourselves and to start clearing up the crime scene.

The investigations continue in my November Metapmorphosis workshops…join us!  See below for details

Lifelight Astrology New Moon 13th October

new moon libra

On Tuesday 13th October, we have the start of a brand spanking new lunar cycle with a New Moon in Libra – which sets the scene for the next two weeks. When we think Libra, we think relationship, co-operation, peace, love, beauty and harmony… “Imagine” by John Lennon says it best, being a Libran himself.

But …here’s the rub… this usually lovely sun/moon peace party is being directly opposed by radical, revolutionary, Uranus, who is residing in fiery, impulsive Aries. You might say it’s just a tad more complex and contradictory than normal. You may be feeling a  little on the edgy side,  irritated, angry or perhaps  a bit stuck or sick and tired of playing it safe and trying to please everybody?

Lets have some fun and see if we can get to know the archetypal characters in this scene (which are mirrored in each of us)  a bit better, so we can work out what to do with them.

Imagine if you will, a wrestling ring – Enter on the left, to the swell of orchestral music, the gorgeous, the honed, the immaculately turned out… Mr Libra – let’s call him Fancy Pants Phillipe … charming, graceful, smooth of skin, silken cape swirling around perfectly tailored shorts. More than happy to be in the limelight, he glides around the ring, waving and flashing his Hollywood smile for all to see.  After all, you’ve paid for your ticket and he aims to please.

And then…Suddenly… the music shifts, there’s a rumble and a roar and a flash of lightening, as a blur of  black and red silk explodes like a whirling dervish into the ring. Seemingly out of thin air, appears the Great, the mighty …Rebel the Ram, muscles pumped for action, presence looming, teeth bared, pure primal energy shooting from every pore, his body glistening with the sweat of unadulterated excitement and unbridled energy. Not a second is wasted as Rebel the Ram virtually flies across the ring and pounces on  Fancy Pants, who doesn’t even see it coming,  absorbed as he is in doing the pleaser strut.  Pandemonium breaks out – I mean the match hasn’t event started yet. The refs manage to restrain the Rebel and he laughingly prances away, waving a dismissive hand at Fancy Pants, who is now lying in a daze on the floor, a little bloodied and very embarrassed indeed. The Ram moves swiftly  around the ring, arms in the air, brimming with the unabashed  confidence of a winner.  His speciality is the rattling of cages and he has successfully unbalanced and psyched his opponent out. Had Fancy pants not been so obsessed with pleasing everybody, he may have seen it coming.

Uranus is the rebel, the awakener and he’s just doing his job, bringing us out of any slumber we might be in.

This new moon, as much as we want the beauty, balance, peace thing, we are being hoofed out of our comfort zones by unexpected and possibly surprising events or people. If you’ve been stuck in a rut, this lunation should be just the medicine you need, to bounce you out of it! Uranus is ready to leap into the ring of our lives and show us exactly where we’re being inauthentic or where our lives are out of balance.

Libra generally has little or no interest in rocking the boat, whereas  Uranus in Aries says “burn the boat down if needs be”. Libra wants to co-operate, avoid confrontation and keep the peace at all costs, where Uranus demands that we be honest,  assert ourselves, stand up for what’s right, change the way we do things and even maybe take a risk or two.

Obviously with the main theme still being balance, we’re being urged to find the middle ground, regardless of which side of the pendulum we happen to be hanging out on.

Here are some questions to ask this new moon:

  • Where in my life, do I feel stuck?
  • Where am I telling the same story and how can I change it?
  • What part of my life needs the Rebel Ram treatment and what form could that take?.
  • What can I do that is out of the norm and would get me out of the rut?
  • Where in my life am I putting on a pleasing face and over co-operating, possibly to my detriment – a good clue here is to ask yourself what or who you resent and why.
  • Or – where am I being blustery, imposing, tactless, confrontational and self obsessed?
  • Am I pushing too hard or are taking the path of least resistance?
  • Am I going to war with people, when peace would be the better option?.
  • What are my judgements about others?  They are what I need to address in myself.

Mercury has thankfully just turned direct and joined the Libran party, so he’s there to help us to find the balance within ourselves and in our communications with others.

Be the change you want to see”. Ghandi

Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse – 28th September – This is a biggie!

blood moon trees

Well here we are, drawing closer and closer  to the Supermoon or blood moon on  27th / 28th September … “the” date that has got millions of people worldwide into a bit of a tizz. You only have to trawl around a bit on the internet, and you will find heaps of stuff  predicting all manner of things… to name a few…  he  end of the world as we know it (again); the Apocalypse; the date when Mother earth will finally let rip, after all the abuses we have hurled at her, the Polar Shift,  the World Economy crashing, the collapse of the energy grid, resulting in 3 days of darkness… and a lot more besides. Whew!  Makes you want to hide under the duvet!

On the brighter side, the news in spiritually based circles,  is that  this is the first wave of Ascension, the Second Coming, that our DNA is changing to crystalline and / or that roughly a third of the population is ascending into 5th dimension consciousness.

The truth is, nobody really knows.

What we do know though, is that this is one wing dinger of a full moon. Firstly, it’s a  supermoon, which is when the moon is so close to the earth that it appears about 14 times larger than a normal full moon. This isn’t all that rare on its own,  but  for the first time in 33 years,  this super moon it will coincide with a total lunar eclipse, which is a big deal.  A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the full moon and the sun. The Earth’s shadow covers the moon, giving it a reddish colour. We all know that Full Moons are always powerful, but obviously this one is more so. An eclipse’s effects can be felt from anywhere up to 2 years. This is a lovely short  little video showing this phenomenon.

Now, lets look at this  Full moon more closely. Being in  fiery, passionate, impulsive, impatient Aries, this is a time when we become more  “me” centred, when we want to leap in and shift the status quo, when we become impatient with the things that aren’t working and are fired up to change them. Now here’s the rub… The ruler of Aries is Mars and Mars right now is not a very happy chap. First of all, he has just moved into Virgo, which is quite cautious and pedantic, going against the very essence of Mars, who wants to get things moving… and now!  However, with this alignment, we are being cautioned  to look before we leap, wait, think, rationalise and do things properly. And then there’s Saturn the father of the zodiac, who is squaring Mars. This energy is a bit like a hand-brake. For many of us, it feels like we’re taking  one step forward and three back. Again, Mars wants to confront, sort things out for once and for all, but the older, wiser, more mature part of us is saying “Not yet!” .

Lastly, Mars is opposing Neptune, which can add a layer of lethargy, confusion, powerlessness, victim-hood to the already rather rocky landscape. Most South Africans will relate to the term NAAFI. … That’s what this energy is like. Just sitting down to write this newsletter has been like pulling teeth.

The area  you will feel that you want change to occur; where anger might be brewing, or where you sense something from your past resurfacing, will be the  house that contains 4 degrees Aries. It will be even more potent if it touches an important point in your chart, but we will all feel it.

As always though, these planetary events are not there to just give us a hard time. They are always opportunities to learn, grow, evolve, love and get even more real and authentic.

The Neptune component of this full moon can be viewed as the Spiritual Warrior. It can activate healing, help with the release of anger and elevate our spiritual connection, dream life, imagination and creativity… if we let it.  Mars in Virgo can help us to see what we need  to do to improve our health – on all levels, and where we can serve ourselves and others more effectively. Saturn can assist us in being more mature when faced with adversity and help us to avoid going off pop at the drop of a hat.

From my perspective, here are some ways to deal with this eclipse and this season  of change that we are experiencing:

  • Spend more time focussing on what’s going on inside you, than outside.
  • Connect with what’s coming up emotionally, especially anger and ask what its prompting  you to do
  • Pay careful attention to your thoughts and where you’re sending your energy
  • Ask what, in your life, really needs to change and set that as a clear intention.
  • Connect with what brings you joy and do it.
  • Ask what you really, really want for your life.
  • Find things every day that you are grateful for and focus energy there.
  • Help somebody else who is worse off than you (Mars in Virgo = service to self and others)
  • See somebody else’s point of view
  • Breathe, surrender

It is all exactly the way it’s supposed to be.

NEW MOON/ PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE 13TH SEPTEMBER

vIRGO NEW MOON

On Sunday we have a New Moon in Virgo, which is also a partial Solar Eclipse. As the sun, moon and earth align, it appears as if the moon is moving across the sun, causing a shadow. We won’t see it in South Africa, but symbolically, it means that the masculine (Sun) is being eclipsed / vanquished by the Feminine (moon), which sets the theme for the next lunar cycle.  With the new moon opposite Chiron (the wounded healer) in the gentle sign of Pisces, we’re being provided with a strong feminine flourish of healing and feeling – with a dollop of earthy Virgo practicality stirred into the mix.

One of the best ways of working with the energy of a Virgo New Moon is to take some time to discern what you want to let go of and what you want to keep:  what is healthy and what’s not, what is useful and what’s done its time.  It’s an excellent time to detox or purge your cupboards,  body, mind and your emotions, from whatever is weighing you down and holding you back.

As we approach this new moon, old wounds, physical pain, grief or sadness (Chiron) may arise – all coming up for another chance to heal.

TEN things TO DO this VIRGO NEW MOON

  • Sit quietly and connect with how you’re feeling and what is coming up for healing
  • Notice where you feel it in your body
  • Ask for a symbol, a colour or a texture.
  • Ask how this feeling is serving you or what its telling you.
  • Breathe deeply
  • Surrender. Let a wave of softness and compassion wash through you.
  • Afterwards, write down whatever you want to release, burn it, blow away the ashes.
  • Clear out a cupboard or two
  • Give something away
  • Commit to doing one thing towards a healthier, fitter, happier you – every day for the next 21 days.

Mercury turns  retrograde from 17 September to 9 October, so be sure to back all your electronic gadgetry up before then.

If you need  assistance in healing any area of your life,  please contact me for  a one-on-one Process Healing session, coaching, class or workshop. See below for details

Have a good weekend everyone.

Full Moon 29th August/ September – Dance with Me!

dance

When marimba rhythms start to play
Dance with me, make me sway
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore
Hold me close, sway me more

As we bid August farewell, full moon in Pisces on the 29th is our last dance, before we usher in September… and Spring!

Madame de la Luna is not only in boundless Pisces, but she is also dancing cheek to cheek with Neptune, the ruler of Pisces… and the sea, making her even more oceanic, more imaginative, more dreamy than usual.

And then… there’s our masculine force, the Sun –  in pragmatic, earthy, clever Virgo, accompanied by Jupiter, which serves to expand his Virgo-ness.

Imagine an old fashioned dance floor, where it was still customary for men to cross over to the other side and ask a woman to dance. Yes… it was in this century all you young ones!

Lets go on a little flight of fancy – Pisces loves that !

The first character in our story is the Sun in Virgo – masculine,  earthy, grounded, clever, witty and pragmatic. He cuts a dashing figure, freshly shaven, immaculately turned out in his custom designed suit and stylishly cut hair. With an eagle eye, and using his incredible powers of discernment, he starts to suss out the talent on the other side of the dance floor. “She might do… but …oh no.. her nose is a little large!” Or “… Well she’s pretty, but that laugh…. too loud!.” ” Hmmm…She looks quite interesting, but really, those colour choices?”  Mr Virgo carefully and critically weighs the options, before making his move, which will be strategically planned. He likes things to be timed properly, and to be clean and orderly. He really hates chaos and does everything in his power to avoid it. In fact, he prides himself on bringing order to chaos. He favours the pure, the healthy, the fit and the hygienic. No mystical, magical stuff for him!

And then…the lights change, the marimba rhythms start to play and suddenly out of the corner of his beady eye, appears a vision of loveliness. Seemingly manifesting from the ethers, she  floats into his line of sight, this other-worldly, ethereal looking feminine phenomenon. She’s all fragility, floaty fabric,  and flowers in her hair. Her eyes are half shut, as she sways seductively to the music, seemingly lost in another world.  Miss Pisces loves to connect to and sometimes lose herself in all that is. She hates too much order, dislikes any kind of boundaries and prefers to spend her time creating, imagining, dreaming, healing, and playing. Her pleasures may very well include slowly sipping an entire bottle of excellent wine and getting more than a little tiddly, demolishing all manner of delicious tit-bits and making long and lovely love. She is oceanic and vast and difficult to catch and pin down and control – a little like an angel fish.

Mr Virgo initially is appalled that he’s even vaguely drawn to this strange creature, so he returns to his strategy of assessing the rest of the feminine contingent. However, the music is intoxicating and as  Miss  Pisces starts to dance towards him, he feels himself being irresistibly  pulled towards her. Before he knows it, he’s standing in front of her in the middle of the dance floor. His strategy and planning goes the way of the dodo, and he feels himself merging with her. She gently touches his hand, encouraging him to sway with her, flow with her. As he imbibes her gentleness, he feelshis defenses dropping…. softening… gentling.  She on the other hand, is drawn to his strength, and finds his sense of order and direction reassuring, like a welcome rudder in a turbulent sea.

And this dear hearts,  is the way I see the energy playing out for the  next few months. The feminine …meeting and integrating with the masculine and visa versa. For better or worse, in sickness and in health.  The parts of us that wish to dream and love and imagine and merge, accepting and integrating  the parts that wish to plan and strategize and order… rather than keeping  them on separate sides of the room, or the world, or the universe for that matter. To add power to this energy, we have Jupiter in Virgo opposing Neptune in Pisces, all the way until November, which effectively  continues this theme.  And… lastly, there’s Venus and Mars entering into a dance as well, for the same period, in heart-based romantic Leo.

For me, this means that we’re being given another chance to understand and integrate the sacred male and female that resides within each of us – which, if we all did, would probably end all strife, all war… all hatred!.

Most astrology clients who I see for the first time, are surprised when they realise that they are not just their sun sign (masculine), but that they have a feminine moon as well, which is often completely different to the sun. And they have a  Mars and  Venus too, which makes things even more interesting. It’s only when we understand these different parts of ourselves, that we can start to integrate them. When we can do that, we stop fighting who we are and start to love and accept ourselves, in all our complexity.

I will be running a series of workshops and retreats in September and early October, which will assist in doing just this. Please see below or contact me for details.

In the next few weeks and months,  with Mars and Venus joining together,  romantic relationships  may very well come under the spotlight. If you’re not involved,  a feeling of hopelessness may arise as to whether  you’ll ever meet the “right “ person. The potential is there for you to bring in exactly what you’re looking for, so have faith!.  If you are in a relationship, some cracks could start to show and criticism or disillusionment  could creep in, but there’s huge potential for healing whatever needs to be healed.  And, for those in happy, close relationships, this is potentially a potent time to deepen your love and have some fun as well!

And.. whatever our relationship status is with significant others, let’s not forget, the most important relationship we have is the one with ourselves. Ask yourself this full moon and this month – How can I open my heart more … to myself?  How can I be completely present with myself … despite my supposed imperfections? Can I still love me, when I’m lying on the couch, seemingly not achieving all I should be achieving, when I’m  not as thin or  as rich or as perfect as I’d like to be?

Can I sway with myself… Hold myself close, like the lazy ocean hugs the shore?

Lyrics from “Sway with Me”  Watch this old fashioned version – it will have you swaying in seconds!
