26th December 2016

Every now and then, the Universe gifts us with a New Moon right at the end of a calendar year and that’s exactly what’s happening in a few days time! It’s a gift because New Moon’s are always opportunities to finish off and let go, so that we can plant beautiful new seeds.

On the 29th December, the Moon joins the Sun and Mercury (retrograde) in Capricorn. It’s almost as if we have our very own trio of  mountain goats, beckoning us to journey with them up the 2017 mountain. They’re at the ready to  equip us with  resourceful guidance, discipline, structure, responsibility and commitment.

…All sound a tad boring?  Well, never fear… Uranus is near, giving us a hearty whack of maverick energy to kick start the New Year!

The planet of change and liberation, turns direct on the same day as the new moon,  after a five month retrograde period.  When Uranus is retrograde, we feel the force of change internally, but often aren’t able to make it manifest, for one reason or another.

This new moon, should, by all accounts, be a positive catalyst for change! Yeah!

All those plans you’ve had – all the change you’ve  wanted to bring into your life?  This is the time!   If you feel excited and maybe a little nervous  about doing something different – something that will  expand you,  ignite you, excite you…that’s our revolutionary friend Uranus!

Connect with the energy of this mature, thoughtful, goal-driven Capricorn new moon to assess the changes you want to integrate into your life. Write them down. Make dates in your calendar. Commit to them.

And then… stir in a handful or two of sparkly  Uranus energy to take it up a few notches. Break out of the norm. Do something new… or… Do something old in a way you’ve never done before. Embrace the unique, the unusual, the invigorating!

Why not?

What do you have to lose?

Happy New Year to you all.  Its gonna be a cracker!

Mercury Retrograde/ Summer Solstice

summer solstice.png

Here’s a quick  heads up, as we scurry or scuffle towards the end of the year. Mercury in Capricorn turns retrograde on the 20th December until the 9th January. Being the planet of communication, it can and often does coincide with  disturbances or breakdowns in all forms of communication and conveyance. SO, even if it feels like you don’t have the time,  take a few moments to back up your ALL your data – across all your devices. Check your travel bookings and allow for extra time to get wherever you’re going. Check documents before you sign them and take ten deep breaths before you react verbally – to anything. Mercury is travelling alongside Pluto right now, which could make for some fairly intense interactions!

Apart from the irritating stuff, at a deeper level, we are all being given an opportunity to carefully consider, assess (Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn)  and transform ((Pluto) the way we think and communicate.

Over the next few weeks, see if you can  unplug from the continual influx of information whenever you can and re-flect on the quality of your thoughts. Ask whether the story you’re telling about yourself and your world is true. If not, set the intention to ditch some of the old mental garbage and start re-designing and re-framing your thoughts.

Down south, we have the Summer Solstice on the 21st December which is the longest day of the year, after which, the days start to get shorter.

The Solstice is always significant and powerful and is the perfect time to  release the old and dream in  the new – before we get carried away with Christmas and New Year festivities. If you haven’t yet, take a few moments (that’s really all it takes) to reflect back on the last 12 months (See my last blog) . Recognise  the wins,  losses,  challenges and  victories, acknowledging every single thing as integral to your journey.

A lovely ritual you can do at the solstice, is to write down anything you want to release from the year and surrender it into a candle flame or a bonfire. Remember that fire transmutes and transforms, changing what was into something else.

Then – write down your hopes and wishes for the next year onto another piece of paper. Light it and watch as the paper transforms to smoke, carrying your intentions out into the Universe.

I’ll be running two Vision board workshops in January to get those intentions working even more. Vision boards really work folks. See below for details or if you don’t receive my newsletter, email me on michellemcclunan@gmail.com

Thank you all for reading my ramblings and for those of you who have had readings done, attended my workshops and classes or in some way, been part of my 2016, I’m filled with appreciation and gratitude for the richness you’ve added to my life.

May you all have a stunning Solstice, a blessed Christmas and Fantastic New Year !

Lifelight Astrology 13th December 16

untitled

As the end of yet another  year draws to a close and we find ourselves immersed in the silly season,  let’s take a few moments to consider the year and all it held, before we go scuttling off on another journey around that golden sun of ours.

The full moon in the early hours of the morning on 14th December  in Gemini, provides just such an opportunity. This is normally a  light-hearted, busy,  communicative, optimistic full moon – much like this time of the year is on the surface, with all the bells and gifts and  fairy lights and  Christmas cheer. But this year, Saturn is joining the party and adding a dose of seriousness to the mix . I do think its good to bear in mind that for many people, who might be experiencing loss, illness or struggle,  this can be the hardest and loneliest time of the year. In the next few weeks, as we count down to the end of the year, not only is Saturn travelling close to the Sun, but Mercury, the planet of communication is in Capricorn (the sign ruled by Saturn). The communicator will go retrograde on the 21st  and is hanging out with Pluto, the plumber of the Zodiac.

This can play out in a number of different ways.

Old Chronos (Saturn) can be a real party pooper, a finger-wagging, stern,  parental voice, taking up residence in our heads. He can tell us, in no uncertain terms what we’ve done wrong, how little we’ve achieved, where we’re failing in our lives  and what losers we are.

Or, he can be more of a kind-hearted parent, who has our best interests at heart and helps us to enter into a dialogue with ourselves and others,  to assess and COMPLETE the year, with a good solid dose of maturity, sprinkled with tenderness.

I’m seeing this truth seeking, communicative full moon and the weeks leading up to the new moon, on the 29th December, as a brilliant time to do this. We are being presented with just the right energy to GENTLY reassess the year,  look at the blessings, the challenges, the wins and the losses and to excavate the  GOLD!

Here are some questions that might help get you started:

  • What changed for you this year?
  • Describe  your challenges
  • Describe your wins
  • What do feel you accomplished?
  • What do you feel you didn’t accomplish?
  • Who were the most important people in your life this year?
  • Was there anybody new who arrived in your life?
  • Was there anybody who left your life?
  • Describe the sadnesses
  • Describe the joys
  • What have you  discovered about yourself this year?
  • If you could sum 2017 up in one word, what would it be?

Use these questions as a guideline, but add to them. If you like, play with images, or collages, or doodles.

As the moon wanes for the next few weeks, clear, declutter and let go of whatever you don’t need, so you can start afresh in 2017.

I still have a a couple of places left on my WRAP IT UP workshops this  Saturday or Sunday and have dates lined up for the VISION BOARD WORKSHOPS in JANUARY. Check out my newsletter or email me for details. .

If you haven’t yet done so, you might want to book an astrology session for the New Year to see what’s in store astrologically for you in 2017.

What IF?

What IF?

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 28th NOVEMBER 2016

Well, we’ve finally gurgled our way through the raging rivers of Scorpio… whew…!  Now now hopefully we can put our heads up and take a nice big expansive breath of fresh air with the New Moon in Sagittarius on  29th November.  The archer fires his invigorating arrows and calls us to lighten up a little.

I’ve been musing about this New moon and what I’m going to write for a few days now  and I just couldn’t  bring myself to go into anything serious. I have no desire to write about slowing down, being healthy, connecting with our emotions, going deep, transforming, transmuting… or saving the planet.

Perhaps it’s because this new moon is activating my Sagittarian moon (which has been a little soggy of late) , or maybe it’s due to the heaviness and seriousness  that has surrounded us for the past few months. Or it could be because I’m just a little soul tired, if not a tad jaded… Its probably a combination of all three.

Whatever the reason, today I’m going to focus on the largess, the generosity, the expansion, the truth of  Jupiter…. the ruler of this new moon.

When I think of Jupiter, I think of the laughing Buddha, I think of breaking bread with friends at a table laden with delicious food, flowers and wine, jesters, clowns, magic, travelling to exciting new places, being outrageous, feeling the wind in your hair, diving into an ocean, riding a horse in the countryside,  turning up the music and dancing as if  nobody’s watching,  relishing the smell of freshly baked bread, newly ground coffee, picking some flowers, biting into a strawberry, soaking in a bath filled with bubbles  – I think of LIVING, growing and expanding.

A  while ago I wrote in my journal…” What if…. there is nothing else I have to achieve… nobody I have to please, nothing I have to do any better or any more perfectly… What if… I was complete right now… if I could accept and embrace myself as I am … this moment?”

What if?

When I read those words, I feel expansive. I feel relieved. I feel light. I feel free.

The reality is that when we do manage to let go of the need to control and scheme and analyse, even for short periods, we actually rewire our brains and redesign our physiology. So …when we’re having fun or relaxing, we’re actually healing ourselves and our lives.

I remember listening to a talk I listened to by Deepak Chopra, where he said that when you’re in ecstasy, you create millions of dollars of Interluken 2, which cures dire diseases like Cancer!

When last did you experience ecstasy … or joy… or something close to it?

How can you connect with that again?

So… how about it?

What if, this week and this month, you allowed yourself to embrace the expansive playful  child-like you (even for short periods)  and  released yourself from the prison of  responsibilities, concerns and burdens occasionally?  What if you embraced your quirky side? What if you bestowed upon yourself the luxury of spending some time doing the things or having the experiences that gave you a sense of freedom and joy?

This is my invitation to you this  month – and if it works, maybe for EVER.

I’d love you to share the fun adventures you have, big and small with me on my Facebook page. Let’s inspire each other.

I’m running my Wrap it up Workshop on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of December, so be sure not to miss the opportunity of celebrating and completing the year. If you’re not on my Newsletter list, email me for details.

Lifelight Astrology 10th November

statue

By Michelle McClunan

Well here we are… most of us reeling a little, in the wake of a somewhat volcanic week. But…if you’re reading this, you’re still here, breathing in and out, so well done!

If you’ve managed to tear yourself away from US politics for a few minutes, you may have read a bit about the upcoming, beautiful, bountiful, Super Moon in Taurus on the 14th November. This certainly isn’t your garden variety full moon. Bella Luna will be closer to the earth than she’s been since 1948 and won’t be again until 2034. She will apparently be 14% bigger and 30% brighter  than usual, so be sure to stay up late to see her on the 13th or get up early on the 14th to bathe in her.

But bountiful moons aside, if we penetrate through the surface beauty of the spectacle, what does the moment represent for us symbolically?

For me, more than anything, the forthcoming full moon is about examining/ investigating (Sun in Scorpio) our core values & beliefs (moon in Taurus). The moon forms harmonious aspects to Pluto (the plumber) and Chiron (the wounded healer), which assist us in finding healing through excavating the truth that exists within us.

With all the upheavals this year, from Brexit, to the Refugee Crisis, our ongoing South African political and economic challenges and shenanigans and of course the recent rather shocking selection of Trump as President of the US, it seems to me that our values as a people are seriously being called into question.

A personal value system is a set of principles or ideals that drive and/or guide your behaviour. Your personal value system gives you structure and purpose, by helping you determine what is meaningful and important to you. It helps you express who you are and what you stand for.

If you take the Statue of Liberty for example, it symbolically represents many values,  among them friendship between nations and freedom from oppression…. It’s pretty clear that we’re  experiencing a crisis of values !

It boils down to this. If we don’t know what our personal value systems are, how do we go about making important decisions in our lives?  If we have no idea of what we stand for and are driven purely by fear, how do we vote for the right person to run our country or to marry, or find the right place to live, or a job that we enj0y?

It can sometimes be tricky to find out what our specific, personal values are. If you Google “List of Values” , you’ll find hundreds and a lot of them will resonate with you. I mean, who doesn’t want love, happiness, success, connection, stability etc?

But how do we go about finding those that are really close to our hearts, so that we can navigate our lives more successfully?

Here’s something you can try:

FIND AND LIST YOUR TRIGGERS

Who or what makes your hair stand on end, or the blood rise to your face? What makes you really angry, anxious or upset? What do Trump / Malema/ Zuma / irate taxi drivers/ rude people, / the destruction of Mother Earth/  etc trigger in  you?

How does this process help?  Well, whatever we truly despise, be it egotistical despots, rapists, racists… or cruelty, dishonesty, narcissism… provides clues as to what’s important to us at a fundamental level.

So, take some time to mull it over and pick ten poisons or pet hates and write them down.

WRITE DOWN THE OPPOSITE

Read through your list and, one by one, write down antonyms.

For example –  If “racism” is one pet hate, ask yourself what the opposite of racism is for you. If you hate feeling stifled, then freedom might be on your value list. If you freak out when somebody demeans another person, it might be fairness or justice

You get the drift, I’m sure!

USE THE LIST AS A COMPASS

When you are trying to make a decision about something, use the list as a compass to determine whether something fits for you.

If, for example, freedom of expression is at the top of your list, you might want to re-think that relationship where you walk on eggs and are terrified to express yourself. If flexibility is important, you may want to consider how you can loosen the reigns on your control issues.

In the midst of the chaos that surrounds us, let’s allow the Super Moon to  shine her light into the shadowed corners of our psyches and bring to the surface what’ we really hold dear. This needs to be a “no holds barred” investigation. We need to be completely honest with ourselves, even if we choose not to broadcast our findings! Remember, it’s our personal value systems we’re looking for and they don’t really have anything to do with anybody else. It’s when we refuse to acknowledge them,  that the confusion sets in.

And last, but certainly not least, let’s look at how much or how little we value ourselves, because if we don’t,  it’s almost impossible to truly  value anybody or anything else. Actually, its when we underestimate our essential worth that  we find ourselves making the “wrong” decisions or ending up in unsuitable, disempowering relationships, workplaces and life situations.

At any given moment, pause and ask yourself. “ How can I best value myself in this situation?” or when deciding to do something, “Does this indicate that I value myself or not?”  If it doesn’t, reconsider it.

WORKSHOPS, CLASSES, CONSULTS – NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

I’ll be running two December Wrap it Up workshops on  the  17th and 18th December. (see my newsletter or email me for details) This is a good opportunity to take stock of and complete your year, before you go hurtling into Christmas and 2017.

My River of Life Workshop on the 26th November is full and I’ve been asked by a couple of people if I can run one on the 27th as well. Please let me know if you’d like to join us.

I will be available for  Astrology consults and Coaching sessions  for the first few weeks of December, so let me know if you’d like to make an appointment.

NEW MOON IN LIBRA 1st OCTOBER

libra-scales-and-sword

BALANCING ACT

October kicks off with a NEW MOON in Libra, in the wee small hours of the morning on Saturday, in the Southern Hemisphere (up north, it happens on 30th September) . This  moon has  expansive, optimistic Jupiter along-side it, continuing the theme I wrote about last week in my Equinox post. As many of you may know, Jupiter expands whatever it touches. When it touches something good, that expands and when it touches something not so good… well… then there will be more of that!

Even though this looks like a purely lucky, expansive ,harmonious  New Moon at first glance (and it is), there is another side to it.

This one sets the scene for a bit of a balancing act for the next few weeks.  Some of you (if you’re old enough) might remember using scales with weights at school. You put a couple on one side and then had to adjust and re-adjust, until you got  them to balance perfectly…. adding a few, taking a few away. That’s what Libra  is actually about… adjusting until you find the balance. It doesn’t just magically happen… unfortunately.

Picture this on this new moon – on one end  of the scale, we have a peaceful, happy, pleasing little bunch,  consisting of Jupiter, the Sun and the Moon, providing us with the opportunity  of bringing more peace, love, harmony, balance and money into our lives.

On the other side, (in a square to the peace party) we have assertive, ambitious, sometimes war-like  Mars in  Capricorn AND  Pluto, the plumber of the psyche. Did you ever, when you were a child link arms with your mates and walk through the school yard singing “We walk straight, so you’d better get out the way” Well, maybe not, but I remember it vividly!   This is what Mars and Pluto in Capricorn remind me of?  I am driven to move forward/upward and nobody is going to stop me! This is obviously in stark contrast to the pleasing bunch in Libra!

This duo certainly is not going to let us get away with being too airy fairy or idealistic. They’re intensely focused on getting to the bottom of our relationships – those we have with others, our homes, our finances and ourselves. They will urge us to drill down and bring to the surface wherever we’re being inauthentic or  our lives are out of whack.

These are good questions to ask this new moon

  • Am I standing at the centre point of my life or am I allowing myself to be jostled about by others?.
  • Am I giving too much… or too little to the significant people in our live?
  • Am I co-operating in a spirit of unity or just being a push-over?
  • Where am I pleasing others to the detriment of my own goals and dreams?
  • Where and how are others being mirrors to me?

This is a good time to negotiate what we need in our relationships, so grab your “person” by the hand, go somewhere beautiful  and have a good heart-to-heart.

There’s magic in the air. You never know what might happen….

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 14TH SEPTEMBER

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY 14TH SEPTEMBER

War or Peace

There are some strong themes in the heavens right now,  which suggest  that positive change is afoot.

LUNAR ECLIPSE

On Friday 16th September, we will have a lunar eclipse, following on from the solar eclipse on the 1st September. It’s a bit like we’re in the birth canal, where something new is about to be born, but we still need a few more hefty pushes.

A lunar eclipse happens  when the moon (feminine) is eclipsed by the Sun (Masculine). With this one, the sun is still in organised (male) Virgo, while the moon is in  (feminine) oceanic, free-flowing Pisces. But there’s more… our lunar lady is  swimming  gill-to- gill with Chiron the wounded healer and kick boxing with Mars in Sagittarius.

So… what this means in English, is that this Eclipse  is rather a wing dinger, where old wounds (and anger)  around male domination of women could be triggered. If you read deeper into this… it also means the triggering of anger within us, particularly if we honour  the masculine over the feminine, paying more attention to what we’re achieving, to the intellect, than to our inner workings.

When I feel into the energy of the eclipse, it reminds me a little of a  pressure cooker, which we need to keep an eye on, lest that pressure rise to a point where the lid pops right off!

Leading up to, during and after this eclipse, give yourself permission to process any residual or obvious irritation or anger and find a way of letting off some steam.  Anger often rises when the masculine and feminine  within us are polarised… when we’re not listening to our inner voices, when we’re disconnected from our souls.

We’re being urged right now in a big way, to really listen to what our bodies our telling us (Virgo), to connect with the feminine emotions that are simmering underneath the surface (Pisces) and to intuitively (rather than intellectually)  move towards our goals (Mars in Sagittarius).

…which  leads me to the next big planetary happening:

Drum roll please!

JUPITER HAS JUST ENTERED LIBRA

For the past year, Jupiter the planet of growth and expansion has been travelling through earthy grounded Virgo, along with the North Node of the moon. The energy of Jupiter is expansive, curious, optimistic and enthusiastic. It wants to travel, grow, learn, enjoy life and shoot its arrows towards the stars. When it’s in Virgo, it feels a tad boxed in to say the least.  During the last year, many of us have realised that the big bold creative ideas we had when Jupiter was in Leo (July 2014 to August 2015)    require routine and dedication and that Rome really wasn’t built in a day… Damn!  The  saying “Chop wood, carry water”  comes to mind. Necessary, but not entirely easy.

This is all rather humbling and very often, at this point, the “dreams” are put in the bottom drawer, as we feel overwhelmed, incompetent or incapable of moving forward with them.

And now, our planet of expansion has finally moved into peace-loving, beauty seeking, social, relationship-orientated  Libra. …it’s a bit like a breath of fresh air, which we will probably start to feel after the eclipse.  It will hopefully bring some lightness to the mix and in the next year, we should see growth, expansion and opportunities  in the Venusian areas of life –  love,  money, creativity, art, relationships, social contact, beauty, peace. … Yes Please!

Where ever Libra sits in your birth chart is where you can expect this kind of growth and opportunity.  If you think back to 12 years ago, when Jupiter was was last in Libra, you might get an idea of what’s in store for the next year.

Historically,  Jupiter moving into Libra has often come hand in hand with peace initiatives and lucrative trade agreements. World War II ended days after Libra entered Libra in 1945. On other occasions, according to astrologers specialising in that kind of thing,  the Oslo accord and the Strategic Arms Treaty were signed and SA abandoned it’s Nuclear Weapons programme. Let’s all hold the hope that there will be more of the same in the year to come.

Jupiter’s move also coincides with the ending of the heavy Saturn Neptune square which has had us all in its grip this year. So, here’s hoping the veil starts to lift a bit and that some clarity begins to peak out from behind those  Neptunian Clouds, so we can begin to birth the new.

Check out my new workshops in September and October, when we will be working with these themes. Email me for details if you’re not on my newsletter list.
