New Moon 11th November – Life, Light and Shadows

Butterly

By Michelle McClunan

One of the things I love about writing these newsletters is that I get to ponder things more deeply and intensely than usual… deep and intense both being properties of Scorpio, along with transformation and change, our theme for November.

On the 11th November, we have a New Moon in Scorpio, joined by Mercury, which means that the focus is on giving careful consideration to and transforming our beliefs and the way we think and communicate.

As we hurtle at breakneck speed towards the end of the year, rest assured, you are not alone if you feel like the world is a difficult place to be in. The “shift” that many of are continuing to experience, I believe, is about how we deal with what’s going on “out there”… “in here”.

“The only way out… is in!”

The reality is that the world will continue to change… there have always been and possibly always will be wars, illness, natural disasters and violence. People will likely continue to let us down, cut in front of us in the traffic, get sick, die and leave us. Governments and politics will continue to be …well … government and politics. As long as the planet is turning and we’re on it, there will continue to be strife and struggle and darkness, but… for every strife, there is a joy… for every struggle, liberation and for every bit of darkness, there is light. Helen Keller said it like this “Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I’ve learned that whatever state I may be in, therein to be content.”

As hard as we try to escape the darkness in life, it’s just not possible. Our own shadows are eternally connected to us. In fact, if you think about it, the only way we can change the shape of our shadows is by shifting our position or our viewpoint. We can also choose whether to focus only on the shadow or on the light that is casting it. In every minute, of every day, we have the choice of how we’re going to handle each and every situation we are presented with. We choose whether we’re going to see something as a crisis or an opportunity, whether we’re going to stand in the sidelines shivering in fear or embrace it all with gusto – the bumps, roadblocks, joys and victories in equal measure.

The only way to really transform on a deep level is to change the way we view things, which requires a bit of investigation into the thought patterns and beliefs that run our lives. This month, the intense Scorpio energy helps us to access that information and start to transmute it. Scorpio is the plumber of the zodiac, so there’s a  good chance that “stuff” from the past will come up to the surface in the next few days– old emotional hurts,  issues, resentments and regrets.  Other things that are likely to come up, are concerns about money, power and sex.  You may also experience  “water” issues in your home, body or vehicles. I personally have just discovered a problem with my car’s water pump, which I choose to see as symbolic. Some emotional engine overhauling and clearing out is on the agenda for me.

The bible says “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind”

There’s a lovely story about two Buddhist monks who came upon a woman needing to cross a stream. The older monk carried her across on his back, but when he set her down she ran off without so much as a thank you. After walking for several more hours the two monks arrived at the monastery whereupon the younger monk simply could not stand it anymore. “You shouldn’t have carried that woman across the stream. She did not deserve your kindness, she did not even bother to thank you.”

The older monk replied, “I put her down hours ago, why are you still carrying her?

What are you still carrying around?

This new moon is the best one this year to do some internal plumbing, bring to the surface and release disempowering beliefs, thoughts and behaviours… fears, deeply ingrained knee-jerk reactions, resentments and sadnesses.

Sit quietly. Allow whatever needs to arise, to arise. Breathe, allow, release.  And then plant some healthy vibrant new seeds in the form of empowering beliefs.

I have some space left on my Metamorphosis workshops on the 14th or 28th November. I will also be hosting two workshops in December to give you the chance to take stock of 2015 before year end and to tie it up into a neat package before entering 2016.  See below for more details or email me for more info if you are reading this on my blog

Lifelight Astrology 30th July – Once in a Blue Moon

moon child

Big news in the next couple of days and weeks folks.  First of all there’s the full moon on the 31st July, which is the second one this month, commonly known as a Blue Moon. Having two full moons in one month only happens about once every 2.7 years, hence the saying “Once in a Blue moon” .  This one certainly is even more potent than usual, with 6 planetary bodies now in retrograde motion.

It feels as though the planets are conspiring to sloooooow us right down, so that we can re-flect, re-assess and re-strategise our lives.

Two important planets turned retrograde this week, encouraging us to ask:

Uranus – What needs to change? Where are we stuck? Where are we afraid to be different?

Venus (retrograding back into Leo) – What do we really love and value? … and are we treating it with love and value? When Venus connected with Jupiter earlier in July, different ways of being, new ideas and creative urges surfaced. Now a few weeks down the line, we reassess, re-look – do they still have value and if so, have we acted on them or left them by the roadside?

Here’s a quick question… without over thinking it… in your head, list 5 people or (furry/ feathered beings) who you love and cherish with all your heart… those you would hate to lose the most. Ok – once you have them, bank them for later….

Back to the planets. The full moon is in Aquarius, ruled by the Planet Uranus, bringer of thunderbolts and lightning and  designed to get us to remove our heads from our  butts… stop… look around and see the bigger picture. This is the ideal moon to boot us clean out of any comfort zones we may have become ensconced in. The thing about comfort zones, is that they usually aren’t all that comfortable!!. They’re just familiar and tend to keep us exactly where we are, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results – the definition of insanity, according to Mr Einstein.

So, the energy this week is likely to range from rather exciting, to a bit prickly, or edgy, to downright uncomfortable, bringing old emotional and physical aches and pains to the surface. This moon will shine her  light on anything in our lives which makes us feel small,  constricted or boxed in, bringing the rebel, the revolutionary, the quirky one out of the closet. She will also bring with her,  brilliant out-the-box, intuitive ideas, for those of us who take some time to listen.  It’s  a stimulating moon, encouraging us to  look deeper, shining a bright blue laser truth serum into those dark rutty corners and ferreting out all the lies we’ve been telling ourselves, for oh… so long. Also paraded in the line-up will be the parts of ourselves and areas of our lives where we keep breaking promises to ourselves.

You know… those things that we consistently tell ourselves we’re going to change…. And then do absolutely nothing about ?  Well, they are being  ousted – exposed in the bare light of this full moon, with nowhere to hide.

And there – right there, just as soon as they are exposed, we need to take ourselves  gently by the hand and ask why – why when we know something is good for us, we don’t do it?

I honestly believe it boils down to a lack of self worth, which seems to be a global epidemic. The truth is, if we really, truly believed we were valuable, wouldn’t we treat ourselves as such?

Back to the list you made earlier. Did you appear on it amongst your nearest and dearest?  Well done if you were and if you weren’t … well …there you have it…!

I was speaking to a friend on the weekend about self- worth and I remembered a story I heard once. I’ve forgotten the exact details, so I’ll re-write it, just for fun. Hey Venus in Leo brings out the playful me.

Let’s call it Matilda and the Monk.  One day, a Monk came upon Matilda, weeping and wringing her little hands in despair. She had made some sort of boo-boo and was busy beating herself black and blue. In between sobs, she told the Monk what a terrible person she was and how little value she thought she  had. “I’m just no use to anyone” said little Matilda.

The Monk sat down and took her by the hand. When the tears subsided a little, he asked her how much she would be prepared to sell one of her eyes for. Matilda was horrified – “One of my Eyes ….?  Never…. How would I see?”, she said. “How about an ear?”, he asked. Again, the answer was a resounding “No”. The Monk continued to ask her how much she would ask for a hand, a foot, her heart,  which kept her blood flowing, her lungs that helped her to breathe or the skin that protected her.

Needless to say, by the end of the exercise, Matilda’s eyes were regaining a sparkle, and she had started to sit up a lot straighter, as she realised that she was, in fact, priceless… that there was no amount of money that could replace the amazing miracle that was Matilda.

And so it is with each of us. We are precious and priceless and we deserve to be treated as such. So…. this month, how about treating yourself as you would the most precious person in the world? How about thanking yourself for all that you do on any given day?  How about congratulating yourself on the small wins, rather than beating yourself up, when you feel you don’t succeed?

According to Matt Kahn, every time we do this, we fill up our self-worth tanks. The fuller they are, the more we will treat ourselves as valuable and the more love we will have to spill out into the world. And that my dears is the theme of big, lion-hearted Leo. Leo loves LOVE, creativity, expression, fun and beautiful things.

With Venus doing the lion dance again, maybe its time to ditch all the stuff that you no longer wear and try a different look, more suited to who you are NOW, or change your hairstyle, vamp up your décor or just have some fun!

As I see it, when Leo is around in all his playful glory, it is THE time of the year to start loving our inner child.  To celebrate come and play for the day in August – see below for details about my Doodling workshops.

I am also offering a special on Readings for children for the next two months – see below for details.

And lastly, I’m thrilled to bits to be planning my next (Summer) Retreat and my next workshops in Johannesburg– below.

All this excitement!  Must be the Full moon drawing near!

In Love and Leo Light

LIFELIGHT ASTROLOGY OCTOBER 2013

The Divine Romance

By Michelle McClunan

fiberdance

As usual, the Universe has been conspiring to provide me with exactly the material I need for October’s newsletter.  After a long, dry winter in Natal, I was feeling a little arid myself, tired, cranky and creatively somewhat stuck. So, I made a decision to head to Knysna for a short holiday with one of my oldest and dearest friends, on the beautiful farm she stays on. My head was shrieking at me… stay at home and “do, do, do”… but for once, I opted to listen to my heart and just  “be, be, be”.
One week later, after lots of hearty meals, afternoon snoozes, chats around cozy log fires, art making, walks in nature, a paddle down the Goukamma river, communing with donkeys, cats, dogs and other assorted flying, walking, buzzing beings, we’re both slowly starting to sense a quickening … a rustle of energy here… a flutter of excitement there… the first flush of enthusiasm… as the slightly submerged life spark slowly starts to ignite the fire of passion that resides deep within us… a little like falling in love actually. By slowing down, nurturing ourselves and allowing ourselves to “be”,  we’ve been strengthening our inner female; softening and becoming more receptive, so that she can provide her inner male with a warm, fertile place to land, penetrate and light the spark of new birth.  We’ve started to accept the differences and needs of our masculine and our feminine and to integrate the two.  Jung called this individuation, the alchemical transformation process of the personality into spiritual gold. And that is exactly what the astrology for the end of September and much of October is all about (see what I mean about the Universe conspiring?).  Mars in Leo (Driven, active, creative male energy) is at loggerheads with Venus in Scorpio (Passionate, intense, transformative female energy).  The Sun in Libra steps in to help bring about peace, harmony and balance through integration.  The New moon in Libra on 5th and the Lunar Eclipse in Aries on the 19th further reinforce the theme. The Uranus Pluto square becomes exact again at the end of October, so we will need to be as integrated and balanced as possible, to stay centred amidst ongoing personal and global change.
When the masculine and feminine within us is out of balance, you can bet your bottom Zimbabwean dollar that we’re going to project the lack of harmony we feel onto others, which can only lead to tension, aggression and conflict.  This is basically what’s happening in Western Society, which to a large degree, praises male energy and quashes the feminine. When last did someone ask you how you were really feeling on the inside? Usually the first thing we ask is what you’ve been “up” to, how much you’ve achieved and what you’ve been doing ‘out there in the world’.  And so, in an attempt to be seen in the eyes of the world as successful, we favour and strengthen the masculine and downplay the feminine. The problem is, whatever we’re oppressing, rejecting, judging or withholding has to have an effect on the opposite. Hard as we might try to keep them apart, the masculine and feminine within us can never be separated – they are woven into the very fabric that is us.Let’s look at the archetypal male and female qualities that are found within us all, so we can get an idea of what might need some tweaking. Give whatever is more active in your life 1 point and then add up either column to see which one is more dominant at the moment.

If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, brittle, filled to the brim with busyness, rational ideas, lists and strategies, but have difficulty in manifesting them into anything tangible, your inner male is probably running the show.If you’re feeling hyper emotional, heavy, lethargic, confused, stagnant or unable to move forward, your inner female is wearing the pants. What’s probably needed is a good dose of active, animating male energy to hoof her out of her sludge.
Here’s an example of how the dance can play out. We feel a pain, ache or discomfort. An awareness arises within us that we need to pause, nurture, turn inward, slow down and relax. Society and survival say “No way Jose – keep trucking – what about the rent?”  So we march on like true little soldiers… firing off a relentless stream of busy little idea sperms into the world.  If we can just push a little harder, succeed a little more, be more disciplined, more focused, then we’ll feel secure and things will be just dandy.  In the war we wage on the world, the feminine side of us gets relegated to the sidelines like ugly floral wallpaper as we continue to climb our ‘oh so important’ mountains.
And then suddenly, the earth shifts and we feel ourselves slipping … an accident, illness, retrenchment, break-up or some situation arises that more or less brings us to our knees.  We have no choice.  We stop because we have to… our thirsty souls have designed it that way.  We spend time being, nurturing, replenishing, listening, renewing and softening, so that when that little sperm cell comes a’cruisin’, it finds a soft fertile place to land. And then, it’s a lot like a love story… that first flush of romance when we feel special and cherished, we start to remember the things we once loved about ourselves; sparkling new ideas start to appear as if out of a fog; the life spark that we thought may have been lost forever starts to ignite. We start to feel capable, grounded, confident, ready to commit to this new unconditionally loving Divine Romance and dance the dance of life.
What’s the status of your inner marriage? Does your male have a nurturing place to come home to?  Do you tell each other how much you love each other or snipe at each other?  Do you appreciate your differences and love each other anyway, like you did in the beginning?  Do you still cherish you?  Are you faithful to you?  Do you buy you flowers, write you love letters, stick to the vows you make to yourself?  Is your marriage bed sacred or do you allow creepy characters to threaten its sanctity?  What if you were to fall in love with all of you again and commit to yourself in Holy Matrimony?
The honour of your presence is requested
